Fabulous food and ambiance
A fantastic dining experience
This restaurant is a hidden gem and glad it's in my area as I will return
My wife and I had a wonderful and our host was helpful and gracious. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious
The owner Pepe was very helpful and attentive to our needs.
The food was excellent and the attentive, friendly service from Pepe and his nee waiter in training Sean, was excellent.
Authentic Italian experience. The best of what’s around, hands down. An outstanding staff, chef, and an owner who truly appreciates his patrons.
Excellent food and service. I thoroughly enjoyed the barrata appetizer.
This was special the minute we were greeted at the door by the owner. He brought us to our table as we confessed that it was our first time at the restaurant despite living nearby for many years. We chatted about life,Italy and food and knew this was going to be good. We started with grilled octopus and clams and both were wonderful. Our entrees were just as delicious. It felt as if were dining in someone’s home. We have definitely found a new favorite place close to home and will be back
Small restaurant with nice ambiance. Seemed like there were many "regulars" dining. We had very attentive service and the food was very good. The menu was a bit more limited than showed online.
We looked at the reviews for this place since I had never heard of it. It was way better than the reviews and any other Italian restaurant in the area. They focus on high quality food and service rather than try to fill every table. All the pastas are home made and they have a reasonable wine list. In northern Bergen county this is the definition of fine dining . We will be back.
First visit to it Portico and definitely would return. The only issue was service at the beginning. We arrived before our friends for a reservation. We were given water but not menus for a while. Eventually my husband got up to order drinks at the bar because no one came by to ask us if we wanted anything. After that the service was smooth and the food was excellent.
The food was delicious and the server was very nice. Service was good and not rushed.
Fabulous dinner! Everyone had something dinner: shrimp risotto, salmon, cacio e Pepe, and chicken. All superb!
Very friendly, knowledgeable staff.. Great service and most importantly terrific food. Real Italian recipes cooked exactly the correct way. Nothing was overpowering and portions were just right. Great restaurant.
A hidden gem in Rockland County. While the menu is limited, the food is always prepared perfectly. The staff is wonderful and it is a quiet space. Perfect for date night or any night!
My favorite restaurant
It was a good restaurant. Prices were a little high for basic meals. The ambiance was nice and the historic area was appealing.
Food was awesome. New chef from Sicily cooking some great dishes. Owner very personable and bartender/manager did a great job as usual.
Delicious food, great cocktails and atmosphere! We will come back! It was worth the drive.
What a lovely surprise. The restaurant is in a lovely restored 19th century house that has a warm and welcoming ambiance. The staff was welcoming and attentive throughout our dinner which was delicious. The waiter helped with suggestions for wine and main courses and we loved all of his suggestions. I look forward to returning again and again.
Pepe is great. Hernando and their chef is great
Food consistently very good. Sometimes there are menu items that are truly excellent. The soup special was so good when I tasted it, I ordered it for dessert. As many restaurant environments seem to be getting louder and louder, Il Portico provides a quieter and pleasant place for a good dinner.
Always wanted to try the restaurant and had a great dinner and experience. We will be back
We dined at this restaurant for the first time based on recommendation from a friend. Overall, the experience was good however the portions were very small.
My wife had a pasta entrée which was $22 and only amounted to a appetizer size at best !!
My entrée which was very delicious but came out of the kitchen lukewarm and had to be sent back to be reheated.
My wife’s entrée was practically done by the time my dish came out, the dinner was not worth $300, we won’t be going back.
One sidenote, on the reservation it said it was our anniversary which it was and no one even acknowledge that.
Il Portico is my favorite place on earth. Great food and great attentions!
Good service. Host was gracious.
Great setting for casual or special occasions. Food was well prepared, delicious and beautifully presented.
Truly enjoyed the overall service, quality of the food and dining experience and will definitely go back.
Another great meal with awesome service. Best Italian food in the county. Owner is always over accommodating and a great host.
Looking forward for next weekend dining there again.
My wife and I have been coming here for over 10 years. The food is always top notch and the owner Pepe is a gem! Always makes you feel like family and has great soccer stories from his time with Pele and the Cosmos. It’s a nice comfortable atmosphere with great service. Would highly recommend for any occasion.
We were looking forward to dining here. I felt kind of rushed and my chicken came out in cooked. Don’t think I’ll be going back
Excellent food and service.
Really enjoyed the visit and food.
Excellent service and food preparation my mother enjoy her 86th birthday thank you very much see you soon
This restaurant is a classic. The historical building and ambiance is beautiful. The food is alway fabulous.
New chef from a restaurant in Sag Harbor is great!
Was a bit disappointed. We’ve been here many times before moving out of state. We were in town for a family function and decided to visit for dinner. Overall, a table of 5 all came to the same conclusion...it wasn’t what we were use to expecting. Not sure if we will revisit in the future.
Service was lacking. We were seating for a while before we were even offered drinks. Waiter never introduced himself as our waiter.
Great service, delicious food, and beautiful atmosphere!
Great food. Great wine. Perfect spot for a great meal.
