Il Lusso was a real treat, excellent food, superb service, and a nice environment. I have Celiac so I often have problems dining out, there where a number of options, our server was knowledgeable, helpful, and the kitchen also was helpful.
I think we have found another fine dining option in Tallahassee.
The food was absolutely great. The service was fantastic. The only downside for us was that we were stuck all the way in the back corner at a small 2-person table way too close to a large table with a large party, so we could hardly hear ourselves talk.
Service excellent, particularly for this college town where skilled servers are rare. Bar is inviting though entry way a bit open like a hotel lobby. Cocktails great and wine list decent. Tomato consomme was perfection! Seminole Squash Triangoli was very good - slightly sweet inside. Brussel sprout side was also perfect - not too rich with great flavor. Negatives were the prime delmonico ribeye not cooked to order. This is a fatty cut of steak that we prefer medium and it came on the rare side. I am sure our wonderful server would have taken it back to be cooked more but we were hungry. The cauliflower side was a bit bland. Big city prices, but not outrageous for what you get. Overall I would recommend and would return.
Truly exceptional. Nothing like it in Tallahassee. Service was top notch and food delicious!
I was a little disappointed that I made a reservation and basically got sat in the bar area at the table right in front of the door, but my server and the food helped make up for my less than desired seating
Every single item was truly amazing. That Cowboy Ribeye was the best piece of beef I have ever had.
The wine selection is definitely impressive. Daunting and impressive.
I can’t wait to go back!
Food and service were amazing!
Excited to see a new place opening in Tallahassee. Chic decor with a cool, uptown vibe. Our server, Merin, was super helpful and easygoing. She took excellent care of our needs and made good suggestions for pairing pastas and entrees. Pasta is definitely the strong hit. My filet was good as far as steaks go but nothing special for the price. One serious shortcoming is with the delivery of food. We had one of the long booths that limited access for smooth placement of plates which was especially serious when my steak came on an extremely hot plate that was handed to me to put down. Ouch! That said, I look forward to the next meal that will stay away from the steak and focus on the pasta and other entrees.
Steak was better than any restaurant in Tallahassee. Lobster ravioli and salads were very good. Service was excellent on Friday night.
Food was good, a little bit ordinary with small portion sizes, but with fancy names. Service was very good (excellent). Variety limited and not very much out of the ordinary, except for the names. The room was like a cafeteria, and not even close to intimate. There are or used to be better, even in Tallahassee. But it certainly was NOT a bad experience. While not going out of my way with praise, I would not "pan" it to a friend. The most disappointing aspect was the room itself. Next would be the food which was not that unusual or exquisite. For what it was, it was well prepared. There is a little better in Tallahassee and certainly A LOT better in other cities and, of course, in Europe.
Maybe the best meal I have had in Tallahassee. I have left both times uncomfortably full because it’s so good I can’t stop eating.
My meal was ok but the servers were wonderful. I was expecting more from the food
Outstanding food and great service. The free valet parking was quick and easy.
The ne plus ultra of Tallahassee dining. It was pricey, I’ll admit that. But the experience was terrific. Excellent service, attentive without being obtrusive. The food was perfectly cooked. A nice selection of wine. Definitely a destination for a special celebration, or to give yourself a deserved treat. We’ll be back.
Had the bone in filet, which was outstanding. New wine list is impressive, if pricey. Restaurant coming into its own. Will need to be ready for when Session comes!
Experience was amazing. Can’t wait to visit again!
Looking beyond the family restaurants like Bella Bella where you can get a strong drink and an okay meal while the kids run around and scream their heads off, Tallahassee has a number of really good grown-up restaurants: Lucilla, Mimi’s Table, Kool Beans, Cypress, Sage, and Food Glorious Food come to mind immediately. The latest addition is Il Lusso, where the big-city interior lifts your spirits the minute you walk in. The service was excellent, and the sommelier led us to a beautiful bottle of Colombaio to accompany marvelous appetizers (blue-crab arancini for her, squash-filled triangolini for me) and then our steaks, which were cooked a little longer than we expected; instead of being medium rare, they were just shy of medium. I thought the rapini and mushrooms side dishes were a bit too salty, but my companion liked them just fine. She had a scoop of stracciatella gelato for dessert, while I chose an apple crostata that ended a near-perfect meal wonderfully. The next time I want to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a steak dinner, I’ll go to Cypress for the Sugar Cane Mopped Ribeye. But Il Lusso is definitely worth a visit. Let’s hope that next time they earn that fifth star.
We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Il Lusso on Saturday night. I was happy that we were able to bring our own bottle of wine (we had been saving it for a special occasion) and it was very nice of the manager to keep it chilled for us as we waited for our table. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating; I wanted a champagne cocktail, but there was not one on the menu. He immediately offered to make a French 75. Our table was ready right on time. Our server, Luis, was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish and made good recommendations for my dietary restrictions. He was always available to refill our glasses, but did not rush us with our wine. The meal was appropriately paced; we didn't have to wait a very long time for our dishes, but there was no rush between the starters and the pasta course. And everything was delicious! My husband ordered the steak tartare special and was very impressed. My blue crab arancini we're perfectly fried. We ordered three half portions of pasta to share: the lobster tortellini, the blue crab & squid ink bucatini, and the cacio e pepe. Even for half-portions, the servings were generous. I have eaten a lot of cacio e pepe in Rome, and I was not disappointed. Unfortunately, we were unable to stay for dessert, but we will definitely be back (and we will ask for Luis)! I can't wait to try some different dishes, desserts, and sample the wine selection.
This was my Fiancé first experience here and my second. I would highly recommend this restaurant, nothing but pure professionalism from the staff and an elegant atmosphere for the evening with amazingly delicious food.
We went expecting a European dining experience. We were not disappointed! Put the phone away, enjoy conversation, great service and food.
Il Lusso is the most exciting thing to happen for the Tallahassee dining scene in years. A wonderful experience in service, presentation and food. It is very worth the trip
This is rapidly becoming my favorite restaurant in Tallahassee. It’s a gorgeous place with a very urban feel. Food is superb, service is attentive. I’ve asked for recommendations from the servers and loved everything they suggested. My goal now is to taste everything on the menu!
Extraordinary service! Food was amazing. Great bottle of wine at a very reasonable price. Kudos!
Il Lusso. has the ambiance of a NYC high-ens restaurant in Tallahassee’s downtown. We love it! The Italian steakhouse truly has an amazing menu of homemade pasta & amazing
meats & appetizers. The service is exquisite. Kudos Il Lusso!
Great spot to take a date. Valet parking was convenient. Waitstaff is knowledgeable, polite and refined. Food quality is good - and fresh. We ordered the veal parm and the KC strip. Steak was cooked perfectly and the veal parm was delicious. Overall it was a great experience and would recommend to a friend.
The first time I was at I’ll lusso it was great. This time the waiter was snarky and my pasta was cold. Then bizarrely they brought a glass of wine 4 times by 4 different waiters that had not been ordered.
Wonderful experience, I ordered the Delmonico and it was the best steak I have ever had. I received my order very quickly and had a well-mannered waiter.
Both of our meals were good, which is what one would expect of a fine dining establishment such as IL Lusso. However, the price point is higher than many fine dining establishment we have eaten at. We therefore expected the food to be truly outstanding, and it wasn't. Service also still has some kinks. Admittedly they have opened relatively recently. However, given the price point it should be impeccable. We ordered a mid-range 2012 bottle of red wine, but were brought the 2015 vintage instead. I caught it. The waiter apologized, offered that they have not yet put the vintage numbers on the bins, and returned with the proper bottle. Again, the food was good (I had a dry-aged KC strip steak and my wife had the lobster ravioli as our main courses), but it was not outstanding at $200 for two persons.
Yes, this restaurant was amazing! The service was quick, efficient, the ambience is beautiful and the food would melt in your mouth. The wine selection was also divine, we will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.
The service by Christian was impeccable. The atmosphere is sophisticated and urban - Il Lusso has certainly stepped Tallahassee's restaurant scene up a notch. All the dishes we had were very good - some excellent. The Osso Bucco, the Lamb pasta and the Cacio Pepe pasta were standouts. We also had the Arancini, which were beautifully presented and delicious, two salads (both ok) and the bone in filet. The filet was cooked as ordered (medium rare but closer to rare) but the cut was not very tender and was a little fibrous. However, the overall experience was really special, and we will be back for sure.
Great service. Food and drinks were very good! Our pasta dishes were delicious.
Great service. Steak was a bit tough for $50, but other entrees and sides were delicious and well flavored.
Food was amazing! Definitely the best steak I’ve had in Tallahassee, and the pasta is to die for. Christian, our server, was awesome and made sure everything was coursed out perfectly. Couldn’t ask for a better addition to the city!
Delicious food and nice atmosphere.
Food lacked flavor...Lunch didn't offer many tasteful alternatives for someone w/ dietary restrictions.
Beautiful space but food was overpriced for what we had. Veal Parmesan was okay but not worth the 45.00 that we paid. Steak was 60.00 undercooked and sauce did not compliment the steak.
Arrived at our reservation time but was told our table was not ready even though restaurant was only 20% occupied. Hostess suggested waiting at bar (an overtly obvious attempt at generating additional revenue) We ordered 2 cosmopolitans and a margarita. Unfortunately our drinks were unimpressive lacking the usual vibrant flavors of these commonly ordered cocktails. When we asked to have our bar tab transferred to our table we were told abruptly that was not possible. After 20 minutes a hostess reappeared and curtly told us we must pay our bar tab before proceeding with her. (Which had already been taken care of at the request of the bartender) Our hostess did not wait with us while our belongings were gathered and instead abruptly rounded the corner to our table looking impatient as we approached. Again the restaurant had very few guests with no one else waiting for a table.
Once seated we were not greeted by our server for an additional 10 minutes. Water was poured with no ice, luke warm into sparkling clean glasses, chilled water would have been welcomed. Our server was professional, but not warm or welcoming asking “Do you want to hear about our specials?”
We ordered an appetizer of meatballs, roasted pepper agrodulce, polenta which was flavorful but unfortunately served cold.
Our lobster tortellini which ended up being lobster ravioli also arrived cold and placed in front of the wrong guest. It wasn’t a big deal about the tortellini being ravioli however at such a fine restaurant a guest should be made aware of a change to a course. The prime delmonico ribeye was served lukewarm however was still flavorful and robust. The side of rosemary potatoes with taleggio fondue was also served lukewarm, with over cooked shriveled fingerling potatoes with a white flavorless cheese that was not melted through. The Rigatoni with swordfish bolognese was the only item served at a warm temperature and although appealing to the eyes had no discernible swordfish present.
We very much want this restaurant to be successful as we live nearby but our last experience was not good. We arrived on time for our 7:00pm dinner reservation on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. It was my wife’s birthday and when I made the reservation I indicated this. We invited another couple from out of town to join us for this celebration.
Our server quickly approached us and took our drink order. The drinks arrived right away and then soon after we ordered our meal. The appetizers and salads arrived soon after. That was about 30 minutes after we arrived. We then sat there, and sat there, awaiting our meal. I asked the waiter if there was a problem and he said the kitchen was backed up but it should arrive soon. Well, to make a long story short, it was 9:30pm before our dinners arrived. It took two and a half hours to get our dinners.
I will say that most of the food was excellent (other than my wife’s salmon which tasted too fishy) but we were very hungry and frustrated at that point. The manager did come and apologize and said this was the busiest the restaurant had ever been. He did comp my wife’s salmon and the two sides. There was no acknowledgement of her birthday at anytime during the evening so we all walked away pretty disappointed. We had chosen this restaurant based on our first experience a few weeks ago which was very good. I hope this was just a fluke. If the kitchen can only handle a certain number of patrons then they need to limit the reservations they accept to that number.
These folks need a chef that knows something about kitchen and food management
Nicest place in Tallahassee!
