Food was great !
Our first time there and we will return. Portions were very generous and food was very well prepared. Service was very attentive. Give it a try!
Food was very good and great value with BYOB. Owner and chef came out to our table twice to check in.
Only negative is it was hot with no A/C and tin ceiling deflects noise back down so it’s not quiet on a busy Saturday night. Recommended.
Very good BYOB Italian on Bay Street. Owner is very hands on and committed to providing great food and a comfortable atmosphere. Great for large parties or couples. Old school Italian.
Very good restaurant in a very Cool building!
Food was plenty and delicious. Would be great if they hired another waitress to help. The evening we were there there was only one waitress waitiing on tables, bussing tables and running the food.
Overall great restaurant with delicious food.
This was my 2nd time at IL LAGO. What a great meal! Awesome dining room! Very welcoming, classy setup. Very nice touch with the authentic Italian bread, seasoned dipping oil with garlic and herbs, and the server was very attentive. Great Marinara sauce with our calamari and the Flounder Special was very tasty! Highly recommend!
Food was excellent! Our server was very good, but a little forgetful.
Food was very good- but it’s often the details that matter- laminated menus? Butter in single pat plastic containers? Expected for a diner but really lowered the upscale dining experience we were seeking.
Been dinning there since it opened. Never disappoints. Tuesday and Wednesday fixed price nights are a great deal.
Noise level is the only complaint. To say it is high would be an understatement.
Actually, we have been going to this location since it was The Bay Ave. Trotria. It was the best. We miss it but the present staff does a great job.
The food was superb.
Il Lago is our new favorite spot! If you’re looking for incredible food and an amazing team this is your place. There are not enough stars to rate the quality of the food here. This is a must try for everyone!
Sorry to report we were not happy with our dinner experience. Extremely noisy. Salad large but only greens and 3 dabs goat cheese
Dinner:veal Parm overdone. Rest just ok
Waitress took away a plate while rest of us were still eating. Sorry to report not good evening.
The restaurant was good. We enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was attractive, urban chic. We liked the look. They should add more fabric to help with noise level. The calamari were a bit undercooked and the zuppa di clams was a bit too garlicky. But all in all experience was good and staff was nice and friendly.
Fabulous food, lovely setting, accommodation service! Highly recommend!
This restaurant was a new find for us. Thanks, Open Table. We went on Saturday night, June 16, and found the decor charming and the food and service even better. The three of us shared the large stuffed rice balls served over a delicious bolognese sauce and a mozzarella en carozza for appetizers. Dinners were flounder provencal and salmon stuffed with crabmeat over risotto. The portions were very large. We could not finish so we have leftovers to enjoy. It’s a BYO to boot.
We will be back. Thanks to Joe for the top notch service.
We were a party of 6 out for an early Father's Day celebration and everyone raved about the food. We will definitely go back.
New busboy/server. Forgot water refills, forgot to box leftovers, knocked things over. Poor kid. Would go back, but service was lacking.
Always a great meal. Food is wonderful
The food was excellent. However, you cannot be in a hurry to eat. It took us a total of almost 2 hours for our meal. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to give us our menu and we were the first in the restaurant when it opened. The servers are very sweet, but they do not rush at all. I think they are not aware of taking the orders or seeing that we are just sitting there waiting to order. Also, we were not told of the specials of the day. We realized it when the table next to us were told the specials. We had the broccoli rabe appetizer and the pasta with broccoli and it was excellent. The slow service would not deter us from going back. The decor is adorable, just know you will wait a long time for the service.
We had the Tour of Italy menu which is offered as a midweek special and a great opportunity to checkout the food at Il Lago. From a carefully selected plate of ante pasto, to a pasta course, ex entrees and homemade dessert it was an excellent meal ….and at an excellent price! Strongly recommend this gem in Highlands!
The fveal dish that I had was fantastic, and the flounder special that my girlfriend had was equally tasty. Highly recommend.
Food was delicious as always!
Was there for my anniversary. Outstanding!! Attention to detail, service, food, atmosphere was 2nd to none. Felt like I knew everyone who worked in the restaurant by the time I left.
It was our first time dining here. We had a very nice meal. BYOB. The meatball and sausage/broccoli rabe appetizers were excellent. I had the salmon with crab topping & risotto. The other 3 in my party had a stuffed pork chop special. The portions are very generous and entrees come with a small arugula salad. The desserts don't appear to be homemade, but were delish.
Great food as usual. Weren’t rushed. Food is fresh and comes piping hot. Great find
We were recommended to visit from a neighbor. I had never heard of the restaurant and am always up to try new places. We decided to go on a Wed. evening to try the Taste of Italy. I had the stuffed boneless pork chop and my wife had the salmon. Mine was delicious and would get again. My wife's salmon was a little dry although she didn't specify it to be cooked any certain way so in my eyes a pass on the cooks part. The meat, cheese, and olive appetizer was delicious and very fresh. Along with that you also get a small plate of pasta with a pomodoro type sauce that was excellent and also very fresh. To end our meal desert was also included which was carrot cake that was very tasty. In all this was an excellent place to have a fun dinner out. The service was exceptional, and very on point. Bring what you want to drink as it is a BYOB. To top it all we left with a $42 tab (minus tip) to try all of this food. Great value and great atmosphere. We will definitely be going back to try the regular menu as everything looks delicious.
Enjoyed dinner- went on a Thursday. It was quiet as it was an off season for Highlands, NJ. We’ll be back b
We had 7 people. Food was amazing. Service was awesome.
Excellent food and service in a great ambience. Very warm and inviting. A real neighborhood gem! And is BYOB, so more reasonable. Highly recommend.
Very good food and service. Generous portions and lovely atmosphere.
Small local BYOB Italian bistro, food is very very good. We had their Flounder Special, which is fresh and delicious. . The Tower -YUM - Eggplant, Mozz, Roasted Red Peppers, Tomatoes - easily split between 2. We had the Homemade Burrata also (not to be missed very creamy and light. Between both appetizers we split between 4 people. We ordered 3 Flounders and one Rigatoni with oil and garlic - and did it up family style. This is a gem, we got to enjoy this before the summer crowd start....
I have been to this restaurant several times and everytime has been an excellent meal excellent service I highly recommend it
My fiancée and I were just there this Saturday as guests for one of our close friend’s birthday dinner. We loved it so much that we came back on our own 5 days this evening! Both times, the food and the service were equally exceptional, even last Saturday when they had a full house the whole time we were there. So far, we’ve had both seafood and meat entree’s over both of our visits and our favorites were the Flounder Provençal special and the Ribeye Steak Oreganato. The servers are very kind and accommodating, and the food was top notch. The fact that they are BYOB is an added bonus. Very nice and trendy dining room with a touch of old world Italian appeal. Tonight we also met the owner, who was very energetic and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Food was overly salted. Waited very long time for entrees and kitchen was simply overwhelmed. Chef did apologize but not rushing back anytime soon.
Servers were clueless
Dined there last Saturday evening. Lovely restaurant with a wonderful staff and owner. BYOB for a relaxing dinner! Rice ball special, flounder, veal... all delicious!
Picky eaters very much enjoyed the chef's dishes! Excellent food!
I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. We did a private party there. Everything was perfect.. the owner/ chef took care of us.. fabulous waitress who was on top of everything. Food was spectacular and the service was top notch!! I can’t thank the owner of IL Lago enough for accommodating us and make this special occasion one to never forget. IL Lago just got a bunch for new customers from this party!
Traditional Italian food. Very tasty. Large portions. Small intimate environment with a relaxed old school Italian feel. The owner personally walks out to the tables to greet the guests and to confirm if everyone is enjoying their meal. Economical. BYOB. Highly recommend!
