The butterflied Branzino special was...SPECIAL! And everyone in our group liked their various pasta dishes.. clams, shrimp, etc.
Everything was absolutely perfect. The service, the food and the ambiance was wonderful.
We would recommend the Curry Scampi .... the sauce is phenomenal.
Check it out and you will be pleasantly, surprised .
Great pasta , very consistant for over 20 years, very good service , great menus for every taste .
Il Forno has been our family’s “go-to” Italian restaurant for years. The food parallels anything you would find in Italy, with one exception. Il Forno’s bread that they bring to the table is far superior! Everyone there is welcoming and makes you feel like family. We love it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the food so good I had to IG it! @josefster :) Only issue was service was slow for 2 people ordering salads, however the food was worth the wait! Also shout out to Joseph who I think is the owner and was very accommodating . Love this place will be back next week, with hopefully more time to kill.
Lovely quiet table in “Willy’s” Room.” Started with tangy complementary bruschetta style tomato chunks werved with warm pizza dough bread. Two of us ordered fish which was served with a beautifully presented array of different vegetables, while the third ordered a yummy bolognese. Shared a to-die-for Tiramisu to end a delicious and relaxed meal.
I have been going to Il Forno since 1995 and it is consistently outstanding. While they took my favorite dish off the dinner menu, if I request it, they make it. They will accommodate any reasonable request. There food is better than other places that charge 50-100% more. And the bread, you will eat to much whether with olive oil and garlic at lunch for the tomato olive oil mixture that come with dinner. Simply put, this should be your number one go to Italian restaurant. By the way, no one makes a better dish than their Tortillenni Nouvi.
Delicious food and service was very friendly if a bit slow sometimes.
Food and service outstanding. We are from out of town and only in LA for a week but plan on returning because there were so many choices on the menu we wanted to try.
Very enjoyable, as usual. Our daughter joined us for lunch. When she comes up from Newport, she always loves dining at Il Forno.
Delicious good at reasonable value. would have preferred a bit less noise!
Great food and excellent service. Very kid friendly.
Excellent Italian - great menu choices at fair prices - from bread to antipasti to main courses and pasta - very enjoyable and low key.
Frankly, the food wasn’t very good. Caprese was ok, but tomatoes pretty tasteless. The bolognese sauce was awful - tasted gamey, and took two days to get the taste out of my mouth. Dessert was ok, not great, nothing to write home about. Restaurant didn’t pick up from the reservation that it was a birthday celebration. So in this regard, it was very disappointing. Good service though, and easy parking. But I don’t think I will go back sorry to say.
Had a great time, celebrating my Uncle's 91st Birthday, quite a special occasion. We had a table of 7 on the west side of the restaurant, cozy and quiet for chatting. The food and service were excellent, Il Forno truly made the evening as special as I had in mind! Everyone agreed the food was delicious....and the milk was even steamed for my decafe ;-) An absolute score!
Il Forno is our "go to" restaurant. We eat there two to three times a month, usually for dinner. Always feel like we are part of the family. Can count on the food being consistently good and nicely presented. Waiters and servers have all been with Il Forno for many years. Plus for us: we can bring our miniature schnauzer and dine at one of the outside tables.
Always great food and wine. The kitchen was on point as always. Not a bad thing on the menu.
And a great wine list.
We have been coming here for years with only good experiences. But this time the entire restaurant was full of very large groups. We were seated between the clanging of the open kitchen and SEVEN large groups in the large room. It resulted in a bad headache and no appetite. The staff and kitchen was overwhelmed. No one from the usual staff was anywhere to be seen. I didn't finish my meal and had to leave. The manager took my feedback and sent us home with a free dessert. Nice but that's not the answer. They shouldn't book so many large groups at once or at least try to seat smaller parties in a separate area. Very disappointed in one of our go to places for over 20 years.
Always a good experience.
Il Forno Trattoria has been in Santa Monica for 30 years. Still a great place to eat. Delicious Italian, great pizza, classics and new dishes. Quiet, attentive service. Practically only the mid-priced good Italian restaurant in Santa Monica.
And ample free parking.
And always reliable neighborhood Italian. Solid homemade pasta, good pizza, nice atmosphere.
He got the a customized Fettucine Il Forno and I got the standard Capellini allo Scoglio - just as yummy as the first time.
Never disappoints. Food a and service great took our 5 year granddaughter to celebrate an accomplishment and the wait staff made a fuss.
Great food. Waiter brought my husband the wrong order, but quickly corrected it. Was my birthday, and Joseph, the owner, treated us to a tiramisu and latte. Very kind, and delicious. Our favorite restaurant.
As always, we received a warm greeting by the front staff. Owner Joseph himself suggested we might want to choose a different table away from the glass on such a cold day, and then made sure we were comfortable. Two of our party of four opted for the daily special fish which came out searing hot and delicious, surrounded by a generous assortment of fresh vegetables: to-go boxes were unavoidable, the servings here are always generous. The hot freshly baked wedges of bread and the heaping bowl of irresistible chopped tomatoes and garlic are a great start to every meal here. Everyone comes by to see if you are happy, and Domenico the chef pops out of the kitchen too. If you want warmth and comfort and good solid Italian cooking, this is a neighborhood gem. We have been coming here since the second day they were open, decades ago: still the same owner, same chef, many of the same staff, same solid menu. It is casual but very professionally staffed.I hope they stay there for years to come!
Impatient waiter could barely slow down enough to take our order.
Everything was delicious! Especially loved that there wasn't a split-plate charge so we could try more dishes. Will be coming back soon. Sad we hadn't been there sooner in the 4 years we've lived in the neighborhood.
Fantastic food, hospitality, and service!
Every single person that we encountered there was incredibly nice, incredibly friendly, a lot of hand shaking and so many smiles. Truly felt like we were extended family. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Great overall experience.
Never disappointed in food or wait staff. Despite the holiday they accomadated an extra person in our party.
The flavors are superb. The service is friendly and attentive. Not noisy. Medium pricey.
Never a bad meal here.
Our beautiful daughter joined us for a wonderful lunch. Il Forno is her favorite, loves the delicious food. Salvatore always pleases the palate.
Came for Dine L.A. staff was extremely friendly. Made it feel like home.
Been going here for years, it's a fantastic neighborhood gem. Locals love it.
The dine la meal was excellent.
The food was unremarkable and the service abysmal. Despite having a reservation for 7:15, we were seated by 7:45.
The pastas were not well-timed by the kitchen and rather than al dente, they arrived soggy with nary a hint of snap. Very disappointing for an Italian restaurant where the chefs should have known better.
My Caesar tasted pre-made and stored hours before in the refrigerator.
Of course, Il Forno still has great bread. However, this was hardly enough to override a very disappointing dinner, the noise level and non-attentive service.
We remember Il Forno when it first opened as a delightful neighborhood restaurant serving good nouveau Italian. Today, the food is more like what you would expect from a cafeteria.
The food was great, the steak is amazing. The manager is very friendly. The only thing is we felt a bit rushed as the food came out too quickly one plate after another. It was a busy night and it felt like they needed to clear the tables within 2 hours to accommodate next quests, otherwise it’s a good restaurant to go to.
I have been here several times over the years and the food is consistently good, and the DineLA deal was terrific value. It's a little noisy, especially if you're seated near a large group.
