Il Forno Ratings and Reviews
Second time I've been here and the reception was cold, at best. The First time I came here was the charm. The hot, warm bread and dipping sauce tastes better than the actually entrees in my opinion. I came for a special occasion, and they delivered on making the end of our meal special.
Had not been to Il Forno is about a year. Just been trying other places, but then remembered this gem that is in the neighborhood. Food was excellent and service was very good. Place was very busy with a party in one of the main rooms. Owner is a very gracious and nice man.
Looking forward to going back again soon.
We have been coming to Il Forno for many years. The waitstaff is authentic - "from the boot" and many of the customers are repeaters from the neighborhood. We know the people, the staff and many of the other customers. It's right in the middle of our comfort zone and we'll continue to return
I loved this restaurant. However for a date it doesn't work out unless you're outside.
It's more quiet outside for having private conversation. Over all this is an amazing restaurant and my waiter was very educated on the menu and drinks. He even new of entertainment close by I could take my date. I would definitely come back to this amazing restaurant.
Great local spot, been there for long time. A bit noisy though, probably best outside if desirous of having a group conversation. Being a wine guy, and the folks I was with, the corkage is reasonable at $20, but the 2 bottle limit seems very restrictive. We ended up buying off the list. Some of the prices were reasonable. Especially the whites by the glass. Get the Arneis, wonderful. But, they decanted both our bottles, as requested and the service was fantastic.
We were a party of 7, 5 adults, 2 children. Sitting outside on the patio is really wonderful.
They have heaters but we didn't need them. Food is truly wonderful and so is the
service. They also have booths outside that are really cozy and romantic. Ice cream deserts were especially popular with the kids - 5 & 8. A great Saturday evening. +++++
Another great meal at Il Forno. This time a friend was going to be in town, and she's kind of a fussy eater, but I knew she'd find something she loved at Il Forno, and that they're utterly gracious about substitutions. So a group of us went, and I was right on all counts. I love their pastas, but I decided on the Risotto Nero this time, and it was delicious. My friend had her seafood pasta with substitutions, and was blissfully happy. We wound up staying long after we finished (no one was waiting for tables, so we were cool there) and they weren't at all annoyed with that, they just left us to sit and talk and talk and talk. A gem!
This occasion was a wine dinner with sommelier Diane DeLuca introducing the wines and Chef Domenico Salvatore doing the cooking. Good pairings, nice crowd, very good value.
I love this place! They always welcome everyone like family, and the owner, chef and much of the staff have been there since it opened. The service is attentive but not overbearing. It is a wonderful choice for a cozy weeknight dinner of familiar food, but also a great spot for group celebrations with their seasonal menu.
We absolutely loved the evening at Il Forno. This is our second time there as it is between Ventura for our son and Huntington Beach where we live. The customer service was the BEST! We didn't even order wine and weren't made to feel cheap or unimportant. The two young men, Christopher and Jonathan were especially appreciated by our family. Our son's name is Jonathan, whose birthday we celebrated. My niece who was with us loved them as her son's name is Christopher. We will definitely be back. Josh, the owner was very gracious, as well. The food was terrific!!!
Absolutely fabulous...i've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and i have never been disappointed. The staff are always pleasant and welcoming and the chefs are excellent.
I recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic italian food and a superior service.
The positive reviews on OpenTable were correct. This place does indeed deliver solid, delicious food (the fresh pastas in particular), and I thought the price point was excellent relative to the quality of the dishes. The host was very friendly. One of our kids let slip that the meal was to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the restaurant surprised us with a tiramisu cake. It was a really kind gesture. We will definitely return for another family meal.
Il Forno is a neighborhood Italian restaurant with both good, old-fashioned Italian and some more modern twists. The staff and food are excellent, they have a good wine list and the value is top notch. Highly recommended, but make sure to make a reservation!
Usually we have great service at this restaurant, but not this past Saturday. My friend and I had a 6:15 dinner reservation, we got to the table and got our bread and wonderful dip immediately. We brought a bottle of wine, and the waiter brought us a couple glasses, and then took our order. And that's where the evening went downhill. We ordered two simple pasta dishes, and did not get served for 40 minutes. We asked our waiter where our food was, and he was apologetic and said he would get right on it. Another 15 minutes goes by. No food. Finally the waiter brought our food, and asked if we would like grated cheese on our entrées, which we said yes we would. Crickets. Had to remind him. Again, they were very apologetic and did the right thing by taking the corkage off and taking a glass of wine that my friend had ordered off our bill.
Love this place, just had an off night. Will I come back? Of course I will. The food is fantastic!
