I have loved going to your restaurant but this time the food was horrible . My pasta was so dry and my husbands eggs were dry
Wonderful food and service for Father’s Day :-)
We had Father's Day dinner. Our table was ready at the reserved time. The service was spectacular, and the food was consistently very good. We have had problems elsewhere with a table for 8 , but not at Il Fornaio
My favorite go-to spot for mother daughter date night
Il Fornio is a great Italian restaurant for a group. The food is good, the ambiance is lovely and the service was excellent. some of our dishes were excellent, some were average. Two of the dishes came out barely warm, so we assumed they sat waiting while the other dishes were prepared. Our server took care of it when we let him know, and he made sure to check back to make sure it was all handled appropriately. Instead of just reheating those dishes, they ended up preparing two fresh new plates. I often feel that its how they take care of problems that sets a good restaurant apart. Overall, we had a really nice experience, it was low hassle in a lovely environment.
Standard large US Italian restaurant.
We sat on the patio and enjoyed a relaxing brunch outside. Our server was excellent as well as the food. I have always had a good experience at this Il Fornaio.
Service was good. The food was terrible. Both our meals came out within a couple minutes of ordering. Huge red flag. Both meals were terrible. The baked cod smelled and tasted like week old leftovers. It was so bad we will never be back. They’ve lost quality control on the food. Now the food seems like a chain restaurant trying to cut corners. Too bad. It used to really good.
Had a lovely dinner for 6 with 3 generations in the mix- everyone loved the food. Service was top notch - friendly, efficient.
Il Fornaio is not what it once was. We sat outside on the patio, which was delightful. Service was very attentive. We both ordered the Branzino special. It was a small piece of fish, drenched in tomato sauce. When we read the description on the menu, we asked the server if it was a "spaghetti type sauce" or the thin sauce that results from smashed cooked tomatoes. The server said it was just tomatoes and not a "sauce". Sure enough it was the thick tomato sauce that is used with spaghetti. The sauce, combined with the olives and capers totally overpowered the delicate taste of the fish. We ordered the antipasto de pesce appetizer. It was very bland. We will stick with the pizza and wine.
The restaurant was incredibly accommodating when our party reservation grew from 10 - 14 people on the day of the event. Food and service were excellent.
This restaurant is consistently good. The food is fresh and delicious!
Kind of a disappointing experience. We eat at the il Fornaio in Corte Madera occasionally, and always have had a good experience, so we expected the same at the Walnut Creek branch. Unfortunately, everything was just OK, nothing special, especially when you consider the prices involved. First of all, we had to wait at the check in desk to be greeted- no hostess in sight. When she finally arrived, she sat us at a table directly behind the check in stand, which would have been ok, except for all of the noise from staff congregating in the area. The first batch of bread that was brought out was stale. When we told the server we thought the bread was stale, he did get a fresh loaf to our table which was 100 times better. The overpriced Fornaio salad was kind of bland - not much was in it. My wife's sea bass was OK, nothing special, my pounded rib steak was the same, OK, but nothing I would order again. With the prices charged, I would expect the meal to be better than just OK. There was certainly nothing about it that would make me return, especially with all of the restaurant choices in Walnut Creek.
We had terrible to moderate service. Our server was not polished and basically didn’t check on us after she took our order. We located a manager to fill our empty water glasses, retrieve our wine order from 20 minutes prior and asked for Parmesan cheese once our order was delivered. I’ve been here many times and won’t go back. The service was very disappointing and it was my daughter’s graduation from high school celebration. The manager was also not very professional. He had some lame excuse to give us as to why our server disappeared.
Graduation party and they were able to seat us early as the graduation did not last as long as anticipated. We appreciated them being able to accommodate us. Excellent.
Fish special was over cooked and tastless
It was a very good dinner
We love Il Fornaio from the food to the servers! We love how you change the menus to the different regions of Italy.
Friends visiting from out of state that we hadn't seen in a long time.
This is an upbeat, beautiful lunch or dinner event. From cozy dining to a larger meeting event, iL Fornaio attends to every detail. A great spot for many dining experiences you may want.
We had enjoyed the restaurant very much and also like their frequently offering with different style Italian cuisine. Sicilian food is one of our favorite Italian food. we all have been in Sicily and enjoyed food there a lot. So we were very excited with this event. As we sat at the table, we were commenting that we never had bad food here. We should have never said that. This was night we didn't get as expected. The food on last Saturday was not as good as we hoped for. Nothing really exciting on the choices of appetizer. Both sword fish dish and wild seabass dishes were over cooked, no moisture. Doesn't taste like anything we had in Sicily. Besides of dryness, my sea bass was not as fresh as it should be. The waiter and the manager were very much apologizing , willing to change the dish, and even gave us free desserts. In addition, three out of four were feeling stomach sick next day. Very disappointing on the food. Not sure if we should go back there again in the future.
All around very good place for a family dinner or a date. Surprisingly good food for such a big venue, and good cocktails as well. Kinda fun atmosphere too.
Keep up with your excellent tasty food and your service. The only thing that is negative is the way the tables being set up super close to other diners tables.... it’s awkward and I really don’t wanna hear any of their conversations. Thank you!👍🏾
We had 6:15 reservations but still had to wait 20 minutes at least. Our server was positive although my husbands food was cold. Disappointing
Food was not of the same quality as past experience.
I had been here previously for lunch and really enjoyed it! I would recommend coming for lunch. However, Mother’s Day dinner was not as good as it could have been. We were seated by the kitchen, so there was so much noise it was hard to carry on a conversation. The service was excellent, but the menu choices were lacking, and just fair in taste. I have had much better Italian food at Acqua e Farina in Hayward.
Mother’s Day.... food was great!
Waitress was awesome. Very sweet & accommodating. Food & wine was excellent.
Had a bad experience at Il Fornaio a couple of years back, so I was a little dubious. But our service was great and everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day meal. We'll be back.
This lunch for Mothers’Day was lovely. Great service. Gorgeous ambiance. Food was delicious and brought to us in a timely manner. Wonderful experience.
We had a table of 4 on Mother's Day. While the menu choices provided a great number of solid choices, the service at noon was lacking. There were long waits for next courses and used dishes were not taken off the table without asking. We were told that the cooks were backed up, however, the room was only 3/4 full. Service is generally better than average here. This day was an exception.
Went for Mother’s Day brunch, and the food was delicious. The garnishment left a lot to be desired, but overall was good. We’ll be back again.
This was a Mother’s Day brunch with guests from out of state. Slooooowwww service from start to finish. My dish was cold but after waiting over 45 minutes to be served I didn’t complain. Waiter brought dessert menus and came back way too late so we decided to just ask for check. Disappointing dining experience.
A place known for bread ran out of bread and the server told us they were waiting for a delivery. What!? I thought it was baked in house. So then she brought us what looked like something from the bottom of the barrel. Service was mediocre at best. Food was pretty good. No refills on iced teas even though our glasses sat empty for a while. Actually we didn’t really even see much of the server until the bill came. Ive been there a few times now, service has gotten a little worse each time. I usually never write reviews, I just don’t go back. But this time I figured what the heck, maybe it’ll help.
We came in for a Mother’s Day lunch and had a great time. Food and service was great! The layout is a bit off, just because we had to get out of our seats so they could roll a cart past us a few times. Overall though, good experience, and I’m sure we will be back!
Food is always good. Hostess should work on greeting customers standing in front of her as opposed to having personal conversations in front of waiting customers.
Made a reservation for 2 on the patio at 7 and arrived at 6 and went to the bar. The hostess said we could ask for the table anytime we wanted up to 7. We finished our drinks at 6:40 and went to the hostess and were told there were no tables available for 40 minutes....say what? The senior hostess arrived and after some discussion.... a table would be ready in 15 minutes. The place was not totally full but it was busy. The server (who had food spilled on her shirt) recommended the special Sicilian style pasta with seafood and half a lobster so I chose this and we ordered calamari as a starter. The starter appeared in less than 5 minutes and the $16 dish was obviously frozen calamari....really?....tasteless except for the red dipping sauce. The meals arrived in 15 mins and were placed incorrectly so we had to switch plates. The pasta was less than al dente but we were hungry. My seafood was tiny shrimp....tasteless and probably frozen.....some mussels that were good and then this sad half a lobster that looked like it had barely survived a fire. Hard as a rock with no meat to be seen. No server appeared so we finally grabbed her and we were given the shocked look and a fast "let me take this back to the chef". I just sent the food away for good. A manager came by, who my friend knew very well. He apologized with no real excuse and offered something else or a dessert on them. I was now past eating so we finished the wine and left.............I will not be back for dinner any time soon. The only saving grace is the environment on the patio on a warm evening, the excellent bar staff and happy hour with food that seemed very nice. Will do happy hour food if I come back soon.
I am a long time fan of the restaurant. However, I am glad to see they didn't close the one in Walnut Creek I still cant believe they got rid of the meat and become a pasta restaurant. Also the bread is not made onsite any longer, and it was not even warm. Although I am glad they are around they are not the same restaurant they used to be.
Outdoor dining quieter than inside. "Crispy" bacon NOT!
