Il Fornaio - Walnut Creek Ratings and Reviews
I meet friends to dine at the Walnut Creek Il Fornaio 4-6 times a year. I’m fond of the ambience, menu, and service.
On this occasion, when I called to make my reservation, I was put on hold for >10 minutes. During the holidays they’re busy, I get it. The Il Fornaio website suggested Open Table. This is the first time I used Open Table for this restaurant.
The Walnut Creek Il Fornaio did not have a record of my Open Table reservation. I showed the hostess the confirmation email. She suggested I call to confirm next time!
Showing the hostess the Open Table confirmation email helped. Otherwise the hostess seemed inclined to turn us away. We were seated in a sweet booth without a wait.
Next lunch date, I’ll call to make my reservation.
We had dinner at Il Fornaio on Monday 12/11/17 and the bar was bustling with folks having good conversation. The bar wasn't loud, but folks were having a good time. We had a reservation and were promptly seated when our dinner party fully arrived. The menu is consistently good, and I noticed that they had some fantastic specials. Don't skip the bread, it is divine. Our party had the seafood sampler, butternut squash ravioli, capallini pasta and one had a simple salad. All of the food was perfect and came very quickly once ordered. (faster than we expected) We were supposed to go shopping post dinner, but our food and conversation was so good we stayed at dinner for 2.5 hours. We will be returning to Il Fornaio for future dinners together. Enjoy!
Hate to leave a tough review, but 3 strikes. 1) Had a reservation (thru Open Table), but had to wait 5-10 minutes in line (by a cold, often open front door) to get to reception. 2) Men's Bathroom was out of TP. 3) Portions (especially the pasta) were small. Service was good, especially considering we were a party of 8.
Our lunch was lovely. Each dish was well prepared and very tasty. In particular, however, our visit was enhanced by the presence and attention of our fantastic server, Alessandra. She was the consummate professional: attentive without being intrusive, very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine choices. She made our experience all the more enjoyable.
Excellent restaurant. Great atmoshere. The food is really good. Service was outstanding. Our server was very attentive and very friendly. The portions are very adequate. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The time before I was there it was during the Summer and it was delightful to be able to sit outside and enjoy a great lunch.
Very expensive for what was delivered to our table. We ordered off of the special menu and my small portioned lasagna was overcooked and my friend's chicken pasta dish was insipid in taste and aesthetics. Also the table bread was stale.
Our waitress was hurried and kept leaning her body over our food and drinks.
The dessert menu oversold as my pistachio crusted gelato with chocolate turned out to be presliced ice-cream (with frost burn) and not freshly made to order.
We ordered two entrees, one salad to share, one coffee (with no refills offered), one soda and two desserts and the bill was $90 without tip. Would have been worth it if the food and service was much better.
Food was good, waiter just took our order and served us like we were at a diner. Didn’t show any level of interest, didn’t make small talk, didn’t ask us how our foot was, I don’t even think he said hi or thank you for eating there. Gave a tip slightly under 10% after leaving, remorseful I gave too much of a tip for such poor service for the character of the restaurant
Our waiter was extremely impatient. Never greeted up. Never checked in. Rushed the entire meal. The food was mediocre at best. Tomatina across the street is significantly better. Yes it doesn't have a white tablecloth but at least you get good service and good food. We had $35 left on my gift card and ended up giving it away because we never when I return.
I love this restaurant. I’m disappointed in this restaurant. It is a very strange experience. Sometimes, the food and service are spectacular. Other times, like this last visit, grilled fish was too salty, the minestrone Tasted like it had been left on the back burner for too many hours, and even the simple services seemed like an ordeal. Yet I keep returning because I love the play and then I’m disappointed in the place.
I would still recommend this restaurant. The food, service and ambiance at Il Fornaio is usually good. However, the Walnut Creek restaurant fell a bit short on Thanksgiving. They did not offer a gluten-free menu and they ran out of the Spumone Gelato. The spinach they served was bland with no flavor/ same as the salad. My daughter's pizza was burned on the bottom. The carpaccio was delicous and my husband's pizza was good. So, overall, a bit disappointed on a special occassion. You can do much better W.C . Il Fornaio...
We came for the wonderful Thanksgiving menu which was really delicious & perfectly prepared. We loved the individual gravy boats, such a nice touch. Service was spot on, cocktails & wine really good! We also tried the short ribs (yum!), Pasta de la Casa & Ceasar salad which they split for us 😊. Amazing Affogatos all arounf for dessert! We loved our servers as well, so friendly & accomodating.
We were there for Thanksgiving and the restaurant was buzzing. In spite of the fact they were very busy we were seated on time and never felt rushed to finish our meal. We were there last Thanksgiving for a late lunch and enjoyed so much we made reservations again this year. Hopefully a new tradition is born!
Thanksgiving dinner was plentiful, Turkey a bit dry, no real seasoning for potatoes, veggies and stuffing. Could have been better, considering great Italian foods served regularly. Servers were overwhelmed. Booked too heavy to provide normal excellent service.
Booked a larger party but apparently they must have thought we didn’t like each other. Got two tables with our backs to one another. Waiter took a while to get orders and drinks. Food was ok- soup was bland but salad was salty.
It was a special occasion and nice to see family but between the ambiance, the set up and the slow food probably not gonna have another get together here.
We wanted to go somewhere nice for our anniversary, but felt like we didn't want to pay extreme prices for over-the-top epicurean experiences. We were happy to find Il Fornaio. The decor is very nice, and the service was of the highest order. Having mentioned it was our anniversary, they gave a small flute of sparking wine (no so much as to stop me from ordering a glass of Chianti later!) The pear and endive salad was nice (and just large enough to share), and we each got pasta entrees to our liking. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll be happy to return.
