Stopped for lunch on a rainy week day. Busy with conventioneers and locals. A little noisy but a great place for a good meal in downtown San Jose.
Our server was really busy with other table and not very attentive.
Wanted a good quality dinner. I was pleased. Everything I ordered was amazing. Definitely will b dining there more often.
Excellent pre theatre meal on a Friday evening. Our server, Ihab was outstanding and we ask for him when dining here. Very courteous, thoughtful and able to get us out on time to make our theatre event. Food tasty with the seasonal regional menu.
The food was excellent and our server was very helpful.
The service was terrible and the food was overpriced. It took 45 minutes for us to receive our drinks. The food was mediocre and not worth the price.
This restaurant never disappoints! Always great food and wonderful service .
Menu changes just enough with classics remaining for years !
The service was great!
However, the food was just Ok. My salad had brown lettuces ( which I piled up on the side of my plate) and was limp and over dressed the croutons were terrible. Honestly, the server should have offered to bring me another or taken it off my bill when I told it it was brown and wilted. The soup was just soup. I had the lamb chops which were tasty but over cooked. The chicken was a huge portion. A half a chicken. The gravy was delicious. It is loud. The bus staff rolls carts thru the dining room and are a little to quick to remove plates.
A good experience , close proximity to the Performing Arts Center, nice happy hour at bar area but overpriced drinks in the dining room. Our waiter was either assigned a few too many tables or just has that "rushed" personality. Not bad service but not great either.
Food, service and ambiance are always consistent.
Beet and arugula salad was very good.
Fried calamari appetizer was very bad. Over cooked to the point of being dry and tasting slightly burnt. Since we were going to a show and things were a bit slow, I chose not to send it back.
I did not feel like we were very important to our server.
Great food...wonderful server...at the hour I was there the noise level was perfect...what
more could I ask for.....
The food and ambiance remain above board but service was sorrowfully lacking. Our group of six on a Sunday eve (6p) had to consistently ask for water. The wrong bottle of wine was brought to our table and we sat with salad plates in front of us for thirty minutes. Coffee and dessert were not offered, but by then it didn’t matter. Very disappointing experience, usually it’s so much better.
Very enjoyable night. From the hostess to the waiter to the dinner, ALL Great!
Excellent food & large portions . I had the vegetable pizza, very yummy. So was the tea!
Two of our orders were incorrect and very hard to get any attention from waiters
We went there for pre-theater dinner. Had an early resv, but still let them know we had theater tickets. Timely, attentive service. Food was good. We shared a cesar salad and was wonderful. Food was good, We all enjoyed what we had.
We went to il Fornaio before the theater and the food was seriously sub-par, disgustingly so. Skip this place.
We dined here before going to Cinequest. We had reservations and were seated promptly. After the waiter brought us water, bread and menus....Nothing!!
As we had only about an hour to dine, we asked the manager to take our order. Eventually, beverages were served. One in our party ordered sea bass. It looked OK, but the risotto was so-so and a rather small portion.
The restaurant was busy, but not packed.
Expensive for taste, portion size and service.
Birthday dinner before Cinequest event.
The food, service, and ambience was up to the standards set by Il Fornaio.
The staff graciously accommodated my fluctuating guest list, allowing me to add 3 people at the last minute. The food was delicious. A great place to celebrate with a big group.
The meal was so bland and unacceptable that I have chosen to send a private message to the restaurant.
Great food, excellent service 👍👍👍 highly recommendable
The server did not start off on a good note but redeemed himself later
Poor service and food was average-disappointing
Lamb shank was excellent, pasta not so good.
Prices used to be reasonable; now are sky high. $16 for a cocktail? Seriously?
Server was borderline rude and unhelpful. Plus, though he said he validated our parking, when we got back to the garage, we discovered he hadn't. Il Fornaio used to be one of our all-time favorites...for many years. Not any longer. We won't ever return; way too many, better choices. Seems like since Westin took over the hotel, prices have sky-rocketed while food and service quality have nose-dived. Huge disappointment.
It took a long time before a waiter came and asked if we would like anything to drink. By that time we had been served bread, but no water. When we were finally served our water, everything went well from there on. The meal was very good and so was dessert.
We used to come here a few times a month. Service was super slow. Food was cold. Not good for a business meal.
I love going to Il Fornio. This is my go to restaurant every time I am in San Jose, for the Theatre. I let them know that I am attending the Theatre when I arrive and they always make sure we are able to have a stress free dinner and dessert and still make it out in plenty of time for the Theatre. Excellent service and excellent food.
Excellent food with attentive service.
We usually love Il Fornaio, but Sunday was not their best day. They were WAY understaffed, which makes it difficult/unpleasant for everyone. Our served did the best she could, she just had too many tables. I ordered a drink and it took 10 minutes for the server to let me know they were out of an ingredient for my drink.
The entrees took a long time to arrive (and then only 2 of the 3 arrived, the third, a pizza “broke” so we had an extra long wait.
The food was good, but the restaurant should have known it was going to be a busy night with a concert, a Sharks game and a few other events. No excuse for this.
I have been going to IF since I lived in PA years ADP and always enjoyed it. I had t been to the SJ restaurant in quite a while for more than appetizers which are awesome. Service was great but the entries were really poor. I had the roast chicken which was extremely bland and dry. Couldn’t eat it because it was so dry. My son had the beef tenderloin which seemed like it was in the sous vide too long and had a grey boiled quality to it, then lightly drilled for grill marks. Very bland with a balsamic reduction with way too much balsamic. My wife’s ravioli was mediocre with a red sauce that was chunky with tomatoes and also very bland. Inexcusable for an Italian restaurant. The appetizers were the highlight as was the service from our excellent waiter. I will chalk this up to an off night and try again. Hopefully with a better result.
My husband and I had an excellent dining experience at Il Fornaio. We both had the mixed seafood grill and it was scrumptious! We love fresh fish and seafood, and many restaurants do not offer this specific dish, so we appreciate you adding this offer to your menu. It was healthy and delicious. We also appreciated the very warm hospitality from the staff and Patrick's service was outstanding.
We love Fornaio - wish it were more quiet - great food - service spotty but they do try - they do skimp on top brand alcohol.
The occasion I visited Il Fornio was a date. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food was exceptional, and the service was great. Amazing experience!
Great restaurant with delicious appetizers and entree. Wonderful service and very hospitable staff.
The food was ok, but not great. I used to look forward to their fresh, warm bread, but the bread wasn't fresh, nor warm.
Service wasn't great either. Perhaps the waiter was overloaded?
Il Fornacio was a wonderful restaurant to take my special person on Valentine's Day! I appreciated the quality of service and attention to detail of the staff.
