Dinner was great, the chief even came to our table to check on us. Short ribs, pasta mare, pasta chicken were all tasty.
We have eaten at il Fornaio many times in Walnut Creek.....and have generally been very content with our food. This was our first visit to the San Jose location, and the food was not what we expected....the bread and service was very good. We will not return to this location.
Such a welcome relief to have Il Fornaio back in operation indoors! This is such a special place inside the former St. Claire Hotel. My husband and I had a private celebration on a Sunday evening - just one other party had been seated. We received excellent and attentive service, our drinks were carefully made, and the food, quite delicious, which we fully expected. Care is being taken by all staff to ensure Covid safety protocols are being followed. Time to reserve your table for the Holidays!
We were so happy to come back. Service and food did not disappoint us.
Great news that Il-Fornaio is back, it is one of my favorite restaurants.
Food was good, not great. Ribs were on the sweeter side.
Service was excellent.
Our waiter Ronald was absolutely FANTASTIC! Although it was quite busy, he never lost track of us... and he was extremely pleasant in manner, especially when he encountered one of the members of our group suggesting he should have the bacon be extra crispy and another member of our group 'demand' that her bacon be less 'crispy'!!! I don't know if our Waiter's name was Ronald or Roland or something in between... but I have had this waiter before and he has been impeccable each and every time!!! AND I at frequently at Il Fornaio in San Jose, CA.!!!
Excellent dinner and service. We had a theater schedule which was met efficiently politely without spoiling the dining experience and food quality.
I had the best birthday dinner here! The entire staff made sure I felt special. We started with some cocktails, which were fruity and balanced and yummy. The food itself was phenomenal! The calamari was one of the best we've had, my grilled seafood had all kinds of tasty options, while my partner's steak made him so happy, and the tiramisu had a hand written "happy bday" in a raspberry sauce that made me smile. (I used my passport birthday reward for my tiramisu, but they were planning on giving us a free birthday slice anyway!) Our waiter was the kindest and most attentive man I have literally ever had, while all the staff incredibly friendly. I highly recommend coming here for any special occasion, as they go above and beyond!
Very slow and poor service. Delivered appetizers at same time as entrees. Repeatedly had to ask for water, drink and bread refills.
The prime was tough and dry but the service was excellent.
Went for pre-Opera dinner. Received our usual outstanding service from our Server, Ihab who is always most helpful and accommodating. Able to taste the wine before selecting. Had the very delicious grilled salmon special with grilled potatoes & veggies, my wife a very savory Branzino fish, and sister in law had pasta with Porcini mushrooms. When we asked for a bit more more Porcini's for the pasta, no problem with immediate extra Porcini's & sauce brought out with a smile.
Heading back again next week for dinner before a Speaker Series event downtown.
The food was delicious as usual. The waiter was excellent ....friendly and knowledgeable. The excellent selection of wine, both bottle and by the glass, met the needs of all 6 in our party.
Limited menu and not as good as it was 2-3 years ago. Something has changed there.
the food has deteriorated over the past 2+ years at that location.
bland, uninteresting, taste. Half hot, the other just warm on the same, cold, plate.
price - value relation is OFF significantly.
Service not very good. Food okay. This place used to be much better.
Would of given more stars, but the service was very slow. Slow getting our drink order, slow getting our drinks, slow taking our food order, slow receiving our food, same goes for desserts. Food OK. Good pastas. excellent bread. Spumoni delicious. Could improve the service.
Terrific dinner and top notch service. Service staff was very friendly, and replaced the cocktail was was not prepared to our liking. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for terrific food, drinks, and atmosphere.
Nice restaurant, great food. The only reason I didn't give a five star rating was the bar! They only had limited spirits, my wife asked for three different drinks and all three times our server came back with the same response ( sorry we don't have that right now ) Please don't let this steer you away from the great food and fresh pasta.
We had a wonderful time. The food and service was fantastic. Thank You
Great service, great food and a great atmosphere.
Food is consistently fine in each location. Always a go-to
This was our second time at this location, it’s convenient after watching the Opera. We had reservations and were seated right away. Got water and bread within 5-7 minutes. But no wait staff for a good 20 minutes, we had to ask the bus boy that we gave been waiting to order. Waiter showed up with an attitude, I said you are busy tonight, must be short staffed. He responded yes, plus everyone showed up at the same time. Took our order and never came back till we had to ask our bus boy yo call him again so we could order desserts. He showed up with an attitude again, my friend had ordered a salad that never made it to the table. Hey ok our dessert order ten didn’t see him again. Had to flag him again to get the check. I know these guys work for tips, but thus is not how you earn it, I still gave him 17%. NEVER going back to his location. We spent over $200 on for 3 here, I’m sure another place will appreciate our business next time.
Waiter seemed confused and took my drink away. Food was cold and undercooked.
I’d definitely recommend this restaurant, the only issue we had with our party was that we had a reservation for 7:00pm and we did not get seated until 7:45 which was a bummer. It defeated the purpose of having had a reservation in the first place. We asked 2 different times the status of our table and each time the front desk seemed to downplay how long we’d be waiting.
Seated 30 minutes past our Open Table reservation time n experienced slow service vs normal
We had a reservation for 6:30 pm. We were seated at 7:25 pm. Unacceptable. Never again.
We went for a pre opera dinner. We had a reservation but waited another 40 minutes to be seated, in a crowded and chaotic area with no place to sit. Our main courses were not good: 1 dry, tasteless salmon; one dry chicken, and one pasta with very skimpy topping. The food was extremely expensive for what we got. We won’t be back.
Attended Opera San Jose for a Saturday evening performance. Due to the restaurant being very busy, it took a extra time before a server took our order and for our food to come out from the kitchen. When we requested an additional serving of Olive Oil for dipping of bread, it took almost 15 minutes before some could be located. Not sure why they were unable to locate Olive oil in an Italian style restaurant.
The only disappointment was we didn't get our drinks (wine & a cocktail) until after we finished our appetizer.
Very chill spot with great food and friendly accommodating staff !
Lovely place to spend Valentine's
On Valentine’s Day I expected long wait times and and an overly crowded restaurant. But we were seated right at our reservation time, food was brought quickly and it didn’t seem like we were rushed out for the next guests. Overall great experience.
Valentine’s Day service was a bit on the slow side, food was very good
Wonderful evening.... had salmon cooked perfectly. Hubby had pasta with truffle oil. Large portions but delicious. Wine was expensive - shared a 6 oz glass
We come to Il Fornaio often for dinner. The food and service are always great. We were seated at the window as I requested. We all tried items off the Umbria Festa Regionale menu. My friend and I had the heart shaped butternut squash ravioli with sage sauce. It was very delicious but it really wasn’t hot enough. Our waiter never came while we were eating and it still tasted great. We told the waiter after we were done and he really didn’t respond. My husband had the salmone tattuffo and loved it. His dinner was hot. It was Valentines Day and very busy. We will come back because most of the time the service and food are amazing and the ambiance is terrific.
The service was abysmal. The waiters and bartenders were surely and rude with one exception. Out of the four dinners and 3 desserts we ordered only one was ok. No one ever followed up with us to ask how things were. I had to complain to the manager.
21st birthday brunch
the breakfast food is very plain for the prices. service was good.
