Disappointing. definitely has seen been days. The restaurant is run down.
The food and quality lacking. The staff uniforms DIRTY. Need I say more
Food was delicious, Ambiance spectacular, service superb! And conveniently located near theatre.
Came to the restaurant prior to theatre event in downtown.
Nice but inexperienced waiter and/or bartender. Food was wonderful.
Great service on a busy evening!
the service is never very swift here, and the food, strange to say, for lunch is way too lavish and too much. I had 3 more meals from my salad.
The problem I had was a server who could not remember to refill your drinks when you ask more than once and the fact that the food was just average
The specials from Sardinia were great and highly recommend them, especially the vegetarian raviolis and fish-based soup.
My girlfriend and I hit a rough patch over the past couple of weeks, and we decided to head up north to get out of the usual. Your customer service, food, and timelines of the entrees were superb. Great visuals, the place was a sight to see. Thank you again guys.
Food was just ok. Was not served as warm as it could have been. Risotto was bland. Special raviolis were tasty but not very "special". Seafood pasta was ok. The warm olive bread was a highlight.
Nice fresh food with our grandsons (12 & 15) pre Harry Potter at the Silicon Valley Symphony. Everyone enjoyed lunch before the show. Attentive and nice wait staff-would definitely recommend for pre-post events in San Jose. Kids pizza practically the same size as adult one-might have ordered kids size for both kids, very large child portions!
My complaint with the restaurant was that I ordered a special, lobster over pasta. The lobster was still in the shell, so I politely asked our waiter if he would please remove the lobster from its shell for me. He said that the shell was already cracked and walked away. I tried to remove the lobster but could not. With my hands a mess, I asked the waiter again, again politely, to please help me remove the lobster because I could not open the shell to pull it out. He again told me that it was cracked but that he would ask the chef. I've never had a full lobster before where the staff would not assist me. And I honestly could not crack it open with my hands. The waiter returned with a utensil to crack open the lobster, sat it down and walked away. My hands were a mess, the lobster had pasta sauce on in. I never did get it all opened. It was really strange. I don't know if the waiter just did not know how to crack open a lobster? But I tried and tried, and my date also tried, and it was not cracked. So I walked away from my meal without eating 1/2 of the very large lobster. Again, the response from the waiter was very strange...
Excellent menu! Hard to choose which items to order. Our three meals tasted fresh and flavorful, were presented nicely, and were good portions. DELICIOUS!
This is the one I’ll Fornaio location that constantly struggles with service. We dined today for Easter Brunch. The brunch was buffet style and food was excellent, fresh tasty and a great variety of breakfast and lunch items. The service however was really bad. For starters our waiter never offered coffee or water, he seemed inconvenienced when we asked for the wine list. Didn’t even know mimosas came with the meal. Bus service was the worst our plates were never cleared, coffee water never refilled. Why can’t this location perform like the others?
Our party of 6 had dinner on a Saturday night and although the restaurant had many patrons, the layout handled the crowd. Our service, however, was sketchy at best. For example, we brought a bottle of wine which we had to ask several times to be uncorked. When we indicated we were ready to order, our server left the table and did not return until we hailed him. Also, one person in our party was not served the drink ordered until the server was reminded. That being said, the food was very good and served to satisfaction. Also, the wine corkage fee was waived perhaps because it was apparent things were a bit scattered. However, the experience overall was positive and the "absent minded" server was just part of the experience.
Delicious food, great service!
Very disappointing experience. We were on time for our 8 PM reservation, and were told that our table (party of 3) was being prepared for us. As we were waiting, two other parties arrived; one large party, and a party of 4. The party of 4 was seated immediately by the window. We continued to wait; were finally seated about 15 minutes after we arrived in a much less desirable location. Our server took our order and then disappeared; never checked back to ask if we were satisfied with our meals. Food was okay but we didn’t think it was anything special.
We travel frequently to San Jose and stay near the restaurant. After tonight’s experience, I don’t think we’ll be back.
Food was awful doesn't taste authentic Italian food. Food tasted like an amateur cook not a chef, it tasted from a jar and ingredients are not fresh.
We felt rushed. It was half empty at 7.45 and folks started asking if they can take plates though they were half full. Absolutely no courtesy to check with chef if they can customize order.
My food was extremely salty, would not go there again, it was horrible. I ordered the Risotto which was a special for the day.
Very good food, nice atmosphere, our waiter (Juan C. ) was efficient, friendly, and fun, but Il Fornaio is on the pricey side.
Stopped for lunch on a rainy week day. Busy with conventioneers and locals. A little noisy but a great place for a good meal in downtown San Jose.
Our reservation was for 5:15 on a Sunday, but the show we attended let us out earlier than I anticipated. We arrived about 45 minutes early and were seated right away at a window table as I had requested. Our waiter Rumaldo was friendly and very attentive. The food was delicious. I had the Salmone Ostia Antica which was roasted salmon with fresh asparagus, artichokes, capers & lemon; served with sautéed spinach & mashed potatoes. My husband had the Risotto Antico Impero which was risotto with prawns, monkfish, artichokes, tomatoes, brandy & crispy leeks. Both were delicious. Our companion enjoyed the Cannelloni alla Crema di Alfredo which was fresh spinach pasta stuffed with rotisserie chicken, veal & pancetta, baked in the oven & served with Grana Padano & cream sauce; topped with crispy mushrooms. The food, the ambiance and the service were all top notch. The Tiramisu is outstanding. We dine here often and will return soon.
Our server was really busy with other table and not very attentive.
Wanted a good quality dinner. I was pleased. Everything I ordered was amazing. Definitely will b dining there more often.
Excellent pre theatre meal on a Friday evening. Our server, Ihab was outstanding and we ask for him when dining here. Very courteous, thoughtful and able to get us out on time to make our theatre event. Food tasty with the seasonal regional menu.
The food was excellent and our server was very helpful.
The service was terrible and the food was overpriced. It took 45 minutes for us to receive our drinks. The food was mediocre and not worth the price.
This restaurant never disappoints! Always great food and wonderful service .
Menu changes just enough with classics remaining for years !
The service was great!
However, the food was just Ok. My salad had brown lettuces ( which I piled up on the side of my plate) and was limp and over dressed the croutons were terrible. Honestly, the server should have offered to bring me another or taken it off my bill when I told it it was brown and wilted. The soup was just soup. I had the lamb chops which were tasty but over cooked. The chicken was a huge portion. A half a chicken. The gravy was delicious. It is loud. The bus staff rolls carts thru the dining room and are a little to quick to remove plates.
A good experience , close proximity to the Performing Arts Center, nice happy hour at bar area but overpriced drinks in the dining room. Our waiter was either assigned a few too many tables or just has that "rushed" personality. Not bad service but not great either.
Food, service and ambiance are always consistent.
Beet and arugula salad was very good.
Fried calamari appetizer was very bad. Over cooked to the point of being dry and tasting slightly burnt. Since we were going to a show and things were a bit slow, I chose not to send it back.
I did not feel like we were very important to our server.
Great food...wonderful server...at the hour I was there the noise level was perfect...what
more could I ask for.....
The food and ambiance remain above board but service was sorrowfully lacking. Our group of six on a Sunday eve (6p) had to consistently ask for water. The wrong bottle of wine was brought to our table and we sat with salad plates in front of us for thirty minutes. Coffee and dessert were not offered, but by then it didn’t matter. Very disappointing experience, usually it’s so much better.
Very enjoyable night. From the hostess to the waiter to the dinner, ALL Great!
Excellent food & large portions . I had the vegetable pizza, very yummy. So was the tea!
Two of our orders were incorrect and very hard to get any attention from waiters
We went there for pre-theater dinner. Had an early resv, but still let them know we had theater tickets. Timely, attentive service. Food was good. We shared a cesar salad and was wonderful. Food was good, We all enjoyed what we had.
We went to il Fornaio before the theater and the food was seriously sub-par, disgustingly so. Skip this place.
