Thinly sliced raw Certified Piedmontese beef, shaved Grana Padano, capers & wild arugula, drizzled with lemon-olive oil
Bruschetta al Pomodoro
Grilled ciabatta rubbed with garlic & topped with marinated chopped heirloom tomatoes, basil & mixed olives
Housemade fresh pasta sheets layered with meat ragu, porcini mushrooms, Grana Padano & béchamel; baked in the oven
I don't think it was romantic of a setting but still a quiet intimate environment. I envisioned something not so bright, not a view of a parking lot but still a 5 star experience
Was dope, had the vodka pasta and bruschetta. Bottle of wine was a good call too.
Great service. Food was decent. Very quiet. Good for family conversation.
Been here previously 20 or 30 times. But this was first time I've been here in about 25 years. Very disappointing compared to what it used to be like. Food was only fair at best.
Service could be better.
The food was great, and service was very good. I'll be going there again soon.
This restaurant hostess (a man) was rude. We had a reservation for a special dinner with friends visiting from seattle, we arrived 10 minutes late and the restaurant refused to sit us saying the kitchen was now closed and we were late. This is ridiculous as had we arrived on time 10 minutes earlier there is no way we would have ordered and received our food already.
I believe they saw 2 adults with 3 teenagers (all women) and decided not to serve us, the restaurant only had a few tables seated and all were couples. Rude and discriminating.
We expected a bit more of an Italian feel of energy.
Pricing of entrees is a fair value as the portions are fine
but the flavors are very good but not great as in the past.
W ordered a scotch and water and got a delivered cocktail of only water
and an order of ice tea came way later than all of the other drinks.
We had a party of 12 and a nice gesture for spending nearly $500.00 with tip
would have been a few complimentary desserts.
Our server was fantastic. Knowledgeable, courteous, knows his bourbons (Whistle Pig), patient….when we return we will ask for him….wish I could remember his name….he received a deservingly large but fair tip..,,
Really nice service, you are received promptly, and politely asked to check your temperature. And walk to a clean table elegantly set.
And then really well made drinks where served, a good bottle of wine, and food, pleasant to the eye, and tasting like heaven worth.
Grilled seafood platter is my favorite . Enjoyed the Mother's Day flight of wines. No room for dessert. No problem getting a reservation. Staff were making lots of cocktails so this seems the place to explore those special drinks.
The service was great and the food was cooked to perfection. Great place to celebrate an anniversary.
Food was ok, not worth the amount it is priced. My Brother in law ordered a steak medium, when he got it, it was so rare it was purple inside. They fixed it, but not something you want to see on a almost $40 meal. I probably will not go back there for dinner, but I have had their brunch before and that is definitely better quality food wise.
Delicious Sea food grill! Good observations of the social distancing, too. Wonderful to be able to come back now and enjoy everything about Il Fornaio!
Great mother's day lunch. Service was fantastic. All Covid-19 protocols seemed to be followed, and we had a comfortable, delicious, meal.
Il Fornaio was a wonderful surprise. Luckily they had availability for a last minute reservation. Great food & wonderful service! Looking forward to going back during a future trip to San Jose.
We enjoy having dinner at Il Fornaio in Downtown SJ, especially when Ihab is our server!
We had a very pleasant experience celebrating my brother in law’s birthday . It was quiet and the wait staff was attentive. Our dinner was delicious.Appreciate the complementary tiramisu.Grazie!
This restaurant is in the Saint Claire Hotel building (now a Westin) in downtown San Jose. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely magnificent, and Il Fornaio is an absolutely gorgeous place. The service, food, ambiance, friendliness, attention to detail, food, food, etc. is excellent. So happy to see them come alive again as we are coming out of this horrible pandemic.
The food was excellent, as were our cocktails. Service was as good as could be expected. It was a Friday night and there was only one waiter, one bus boy and the host taking care of the quite busy floor. We enjoyed our evening.
They didn't get the fifth star on food bc the chicken was overcooked (dried out) in my meal (don't recall the name. pasta 4 stars on value bc most things cost way too much these days. The service was impeccable.
Everything was wonderful. The server was patient with our 4 year old and our 84 year old. Food was delicious and the Maestro signature cocktail was awesome.
It was wonderful to come back to somewhat normal indoor dining. Il Fornaio was well set up, extremely comfortable and it felt safe to dine indoors. The service and food was incredible. The staff was as excited to see us as we were to be dining out. This is a great spot for a date, family dinner or a special occasion.
It has been a full year due to the pandemic since we have dined at our favorite downtown San Jose, CA restaurant. Il Fornaio, we have missed you so much! We ordered an appetizer/pizza as the entree and cannoli for dessert! The pizza is truly Italian thin-style crust—excellent! It was a phenomenal experience. Grazie Mille.
Dinner was great, the chief even came to our table to check on us. Short ribs, pasta mare, pasta chicken were all tasty.
We have eaten at il Fornaio many times in Walnut Creek.....and have generally been very content with our food. This was our first visit to the San Jose location, and the food was not what we expected....the bread and service was very good. We will not return to this location.
Such a welcome relief to have Il Fornaio back in operation indoors! This is such a special place inside the former St. Claire Hotel. My husband and I had a private celebration on a Sunday evening - just one other party had been seated. We received excellent and attentive service, our drinks were carefully made, and the food, quite delicious, which we fully expected. Care is being taken by all staff to ensure Covid safety protocols are being followed. Time to reserve your table for the Holidays!
We were so happy to come back. Service and food did not disappoint us.
Great news that Il-Fornaio is back, it is one of my favorite restaurants.
Food was good, not great. Ribs were on the sweeter side.
Service was excellent.
Our waiter Ronald was absolutely FANTASTIC! Although it was quite busy, he never lost track of us... and he was extremely pleasant in manner, especially when he encountered one of the members of our group suggesting he should have the bacon be extra crispy and another member of our group 'demand' that her bacon be less 'crispy'!!! I don't know if our Waiter's name was Ronald or Roland or something in between... but I have had this waiter before and he has been impeccable each and every time!!! AND I at frequently at Il Fornaio in San Jose, CA.!!!
Excellent dinner and service. We had a theater schedule which was met efficiently politely without spoiling the dining experience and food quality.
I had the best birthday dinner here! The entire staff made sure I felt special. We started with some cocktails, which were fruity and balanced and yummy. The food itself was phenomenal! The calamari was one of the best we've had, my grilled seafood had all kinds of tasty options, while my partner's steak made him so happy, and the tiramisu had a hand written "happy bday" in a raspberry sauce that made me smile. (I used my passport birthday reward for my tiramisu, but they were planning on giving us a free birthday slice anyway!) Our waiter was the kindest and most attentive man I have literally ever had, while all the staff incredibly friendly. I highly recommend coming here for any special occasion, as they go above and beyond!
Very slow and poor service. Delivered appetizers at same time as entrees. Repeatedly had to ask for water, drink and bread refills.
The prime was tough and dry but the service was excellent.
Went for pre-Opera dinner. Received our usual outstanding service from our Server, Ihab who is always most helpful and accommodating. Able to taste the wine before selecting. Had the very delicious grilled salmon special with grilled potatoes & veggies, my wife a very savory Branzino fish, and sister in law had pasta with Porcini mushrooms. When we asked for a bit more more Porcini's for the pasta, no problem with immediate extra Porcini's & sauce brought out with a smile.
Heading back again next week for dinner before a Speaker Series event downtown.
The food was delicious as usual. The waiter was excellent ....friendly and knowledgeable. The excellent selection of wine, both bottle and by the glass, met the needs of all 6 in our party.
Limited menu and not as good as it was 2-3 years ago. Something has changed there.
