I can't comment on other types of meal (e.g., lunch, dinner) but the food at brunch ranged from very good (poached eggs and crab cakes) to disappointing (fruit and yogurt - which lacked texture). We frequently eat lunch at the Corte Madera Il Fornaio which we find to be reliably very good.

Met up with some friends passing through San Francisco. Wanted a nice quiet place for Sunday brunch. Il Fournaio was perfect! The service was refined. the food choices were interesting and varied. Only disappointment - we saw another table offered pastries from a large tray. gee whiz - wish we had known to ask for that! (we'd finished eating by then)

Food preparation was not what I would expect. Pasta was over cooked. And my grilled fish platter. Was not grilled. Rather pan fried. No smokiness I would expect from something grilled. Disappointing I’d probably not go back again unfortunately.

I remember when the food was excellent at Il Fornaio. It was mediocre. We had the special Taste of Piemonte three course dinner. Each of us had different dishes. My father was from Piemonte and I know the cuisine well. Nothing remotely about the flavors were Piemontese. The service was excellent, they allowed our dog out on the heated patio, and the restaurant is visually appealing, all pluses. I am hoping it was just an off night.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco! I'm pretty picky when it comes to food and service just because I've spent many years working in the food industry. The service here is AMAZING and on point! Very attentive and the manager and waiter are the sweetest. My boyfriend and I always requests the same server! Food is great. Best tiramisu! Highly recommended! The pasta's definitely some of the best I've ever had and everything the server recommended was amazing. The capellaci di zucca was amazing and definitely made in house. The pizza's we ordered were both amazing made with fresh ingredients and quite delicious and full of flavor. The salmon was cooked to perfection and went well with the veggies they came with, wow if I had room I would definitely have had seconds. Aside from the amazing food the service was wonderful, on point and impeccable. Great fountain view, Italian experience, great people working there, beautiful open kitchen where you can see our great getting made. Our server was attentive and definitely walked is through the menu and made some great suggestions that did not disappoint. Having been here many I am definitely looking forward to coming back and recommending this great restaurant with authentic Italian food.

Modest dinner for four with only two drinks and one person had pizza cost $175 before tip. Good food but not an especially good value.

The last time I was at Il Fornaio in San Francisco was 26 years ago with my husband for brunch. We had such great memories, that I knew I had to go again when I returned to San Francisco last weekend with a friend. It is still fantastic and lived up to my memory!

Great food, attentive waiter. We were there early so not allot of people. Not sure of the noise level when there are more. Greatly enjoyed the experience.

I called in ahead to ensure appetizers were there when we received when we arrived at 1145 and we got there and they told us that it wouldn't be ready until noon. When we got the food, it was COLD!

we ordered our food - it was bland, cold, sloppy plating, and it was not very tasty. I've had better at Olive Garden. HUGE disappointment, especially since it was a celebration lunch. HORRIBLE FOOD. Ambience and service was great but the food was disgusting.

FOOD: Gnocchi was chewy, chicken shell pasta was bland - no flavor, seafood medley - all the seafood was chewy and over cooked, penne in vodka sauce - gross - just gross.

Came here with a group of 6 as a recommendation from my friend. We came right when they opened so there was plenty of seating. They have a lot of on their menu, different types of pasta, pizza and salads! I like how they have an option to have a smaller portion of pasta, so I can get a salad or even save room for their amazing tiramisu! If you are a tiramisu lover then this is the place for you. Our server Mario was very sweet and knowledgeable. It great when server know their food and know what to recommend you. We sat on their lovely outside area where there had a fountain. Overall this place is amazing for the quality, portion and price. Will definitely come here again!

Amazing amazing amazing. We drove from Berkeley to San Francisco for the first time since moving to NorCal and found this gem on Yelp! Authentic Italian food with great service. Our family was treated like royalty by all the staff, especially the manager and Daylan our lovely server. The creative anitpasti was delish and everything that followed after was 5-star quality. The linguini Mare chiaro was amazing Highly recommend!

I ordered the seafood pasta. I felt the seafood was a little tough. It's not fresh seafood.

the sauce was tasty though. And the portion was good.

The server was good and the staff was friendly and even did something special for my friend's birthday.

Selection of music on continuous loop annoying and did not fit with style of restaurant. What happened to the opera selections that the restaurant used to play and were so fitting and pleasant?

I went out with my boyfriend to dinner and we had a great experience! The hostess and manager they were both very sweet girls !! They had an amazing gluten free menu. I had the pizza with arugula ! It was delicious. I love seeing the open kitchen. For dessert I had their tiramisu. We can't wait to come back. I am bringing my family next week.

Fantastic meal with some old friend from back home. The group of us truly enjoyed ourselves and our guests really, really loved the food. It's a great restaurant and one I always feel safe bringing friends and family to for a perfect meal. Thanks to our server and kitchen for accommodating our dietary concerns. Just entering the Yelp community so bear with me as I attempt a review lol but IlFo is a favorite of mine! Eggs benedict is delicious and I recently tried the risotto giallo con salmon dish that just melted in my mouth (saffron risotto and Norwegian salmon being the main ingredients) as well as my friend's dish that I believe had something to do with bacon and ravioli (sooo yummy). I've never disliked anything I've had here

PLUS the patio is lovely to eat in especially with the fountain in Levi plaza and Coit Tower as well as the bay shoreline. Not too loud an area too, it's definitely relaxing and totally helped by the genuinely nice and attentive staff who make you feel fancy

We had soup, salad and split a margarita pizza (and wine). All were very tasty! And the service was amazing on this visit! Our only regret was not getting to sit outside on the patio. It was reserved for a private event happening a little later in the evening.

Our waiter, Robert, first tipped over a glass o Proseco, which he replaced, then I think he got the Pinot Noir and Chianti wines confused, but the difference was taken off the invoice. The food was unseasoned, especially the risotto; it was quite bland. The veal was ok, but not great. Would I go back; probably not!

I can't recommend this restaurant under any circumstances, except it was relatively quiet.
