   A friend picked this place based on a past experience at a different location. Judith the hostess was great she was very nice and welcoming. The food tastes like it was not fresh. We ordered, the 8 ounce rib eyes, shrimp pasta, seafood platter and it was all over cooked dry and mushy. Our appetizer was the calamari which tasted like it was previously frozen and the margahrita pizza which was actually good. I

   Rude bartender - Frank - a real negative person - I’ll never TI h business men there again for drinks. Not enough servers really hurts the experience - like going to the Sizzler. Building is beautiful and I don’t see how you cans tee it up. Carmel is superb. Dan

   What has usually been a "10" experience at IL Fornaio, slipped to an "8" for me last night. With a reservation for 2 to celebrate a birthday, we were first led to the farthest table from main restaurant next to the street. Outside, on Capitol Mall, a loud food fair was taking place. I asked for an inside booth, and was told they are reserved for 3+ parties only. There were plenty of booths still open at 5:30 but we were given a small 2 top table a room over from the street noise. Much plate and glass maneuvering had to occur throughout our meal to accommodate our dishes. Although our meal was delicious, the ambiance and seating was not.

    The food was great, but our waiter only came by twice the entire time we were there. Had to get up and walk to where the waiters station was to ask for our check. We wanted to order more food, but not with that service. The waiter never came by to check on us at all after our food was served. The noise level was very loud. We sat in the semi outdoor structure, but there were several folks a few tables over literally yelling the entire time. We asked to be moved and were denied the opportunity even though there were empty tables. Would not recommend if you want a relaxing night out. Felt neglected the entire time.

    Great location and pretty restaurant, but my food was inedible. The chicken was unsalted and so overcooked that I could not cook it. The antipasto platter was ridiculously small for the price. Our poor waitress was extremely overworked. More staff are needed, and some quality control in the kitchen needs to happen.

    Our server, Joaquin, was very nice. Basics, had to ask for more water, it’s pasta! serving is so small for an entree!!! Waited for drinks forever, same with entrées. Salad came out quickly. We like Il Fornaio, this was our first time to this one. We’ll stick to the Roseville one from now on.

    We were greeted warmly by the hostess who promptly checked our reservations. She then said to the other hostess “put them in Jose’s section”. We followed the hostess to a nice little table for two in a room off the main dining room. After being seated the waiter Jose promptly greeted us. He grabbed our drink order and upon returning shared with us the special of the evening. I watched him as he engaged the other tables. He knew when to approach and when to allow the guests to enjoy their conversation and meal. My wife and I asked him where he was from and he shared that he was from a little town outside Puerto Vallarta. Since we had just vacationed there it sparked a beautiful conversation and he shared some stories of the area. He was very engaging. Everything about our evening was enhanced by Jose. If you decide to dine at Ill Fornaio then I would highly recommend you request Jose as your server. He was polished, professional, and someone who takes great pride in their work. You will have a wonderful evening!

    The service was mediocre at best. My wine glass was empty, sitting on the edge of the table throughout my meal. The server arrived as we finished and asked if there was anything else we needed. A glass of wine with dinner would have been nice! The meal was nothing like I expected it to be. The lasagna was bland at best and the surface was burned, leaving the taste of burned cheese.

    My waiter was friendly and fantastic service. The building has gorgeous high ceilings with decorated molding. The penne all vodka is the best in the world. They validate parking for the wells fargo center. Book a reservation. You will have to wait without one.

    Parking policy has changed. It used to be free unless and now is limited to two hours. Would suggest providing 3 hours of free parking as it would be more reflective of Italian dining experience and hospitality. I was not aware of the change of the policy and we incurred additional $36 of parking because we have 3 cars (different households) by enjoying our family gatherings at the restaurant.

    Server, Sami was fantastic. Really didn’t enjoy the table where they sat us, although we had made reservations, the table was dusty, close to a busser station with lots of traffic. (Patio area) 🤦🏼‍♀️

    The service was excellent, the place was clean, the ambiance was lovely. The food was good, not great but also very over priced for the limited portions and the quality. Again it was good…just not $25 a small plate with almost no meat good. Overall we were disappointed. We joked about giving the old spaghetti factory (a place we both don’t care for) a try again, seemed like better value.

    This restaurant's ambience and decor makes it a nice place to have a cocktail but we found the food only fair. When you couple that with the prices, it's not ideal in my opinion. Service was friendly but absent minded. It's not a place we will visit again for dinner nor is it a place we regret going to

    It was my birthday. My son came from from college to spend the day with me. I was looking forward to a special dinner with my family. I have been to Il Fornaio’s several times previously. This time it was very disappointing. The restaurant did not have over half the items on the menu. Service was lousy and no one paid attention to any details. The ambiance was nice but everything else was mediocre.

    Our server was exceptional ; however, they were all out of caprese salad, chicken, short ribs, chocolate gelato, and bread pudding…all items we ordered. The waitress explained they were in the process of changing menus, hence the reason they were running out of some items. We did not want to get on her as it was not her fault. The manager came by and we expressed our concern to here. We suggested they may want to let people know before they even come to the restaurant. She said it was her goal to run out of food and tried to put the blame on the server. Come on, it is late April in Sacramento, the tomato capital, you specialize in Italian food of which olive oil, basil, and mozzarella are staples and you can’t make a caprese salad? She was so rude and dismissive. We didn’t even get to talk about the cold potatoes!

    I know this place is a chain, but the food was outstanding, the service as well, and the soaring ceiling heights and architecture make this a truly fabulous dining experience. We all loved it and will definitely go back.
