We were traveling and stopped in the night in Sacramento. Our hotel recommended Il Fornaio. The service and food was exceptional.
I love the ambience of this restaurant and the architecture of the building is an added bonus! Our server, Rossi, was wonderful!
Great ambience and food was great. Bus boy was a bit eager to remove dishes, at times, otherwise service was great. They were able to seat us early for our reservation, which was appreciated. Beautiful space, great food and good service-would definitely visit again.
Everything was fantastic! Food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful!
Our server Mark was excellent. Great bread. Delicious beet salad and butternut squash ravioli. (Zucchini). A cool place for a pre game or concert meal.
The short ribs were fabulous and our server was excellent.
entire restaurant was empty and the only Latino and black people were sat in the very back corner. While white folks got sat at nice booths in the middle. The entire restaurant was beautiful but they sat us next to a cold window at a tiny table against a vacant room, very unpleasant.
Brussels sprouts were tough and should be cut in half or shaved, not served whole with a tooth pick. Steak was amazing but sides were uninspiring for the price. Gnocchi with truffle, amazing, roasted chicken, ok. Service, professional and informative. Overall will I be back? Maybe for pasta only.
The hostess seated us promptly when we arrived. Initially it took a while before anyone came to our table. After about 8 minutes, a waiter arrived with water however when we requested a glass of sparkling water it never arrived. Our waitress finally came to our table and apologized for the delay and promptly took our drink & appetizer order. From then on, the service was excellent and the food was equally as good! I understand there are staffing shortages due to Covid so we weren't too perturbed by the start of our dining experience. Would definitely go back.
We ordered calamari , it was cold and over cooked.
The chicken was over cooked and dry. I wish I could rate this higher since we spent quite a bit on dinner for 2
Great service from all the staff
The whole experience has changed. Where did all the Italian waiters go? The level of quality service has gone down considerably. Waiters while nice and pleasant, really don’t have their craft down.
Been going to Il Fornaio for Anniversary for at least last 10 years. Next year will not be on the list of potential places to go.
Too bad, really has been a mainstay for some time.
First table was not acceptable because of traffic. Next booth was very good. My food was a pasta dish with seafood. Seafood was good, but pasta was served very clumpy, one big clump, which means the pasta sat in water for a long time or not enough water when cooking it. Whoever plated this food must have been able to see that this was not a dish that should have been served. So disappointing, since this is an Italian restaurant. I showed the server and she talked to her supervisor and they did not charge me for the meal, and she offered me a dessert to take home. On a good note, the wine, Daou, was excellent.
Good place if you are in the area. Also, great for lunches.
Food was great and didn’t take long for the food and service!
This was to celebrate the retirement of my partner so invited two friends to join us. I was happy with the table they gave us, but once seated, we waited well over 10 minutes just to get some water. I had to get up and ask a server for water. We ordered two appetizers the Brussel sprouts and polenta both were pretty good. I had the gnocchi pomodoro which was just okay. The marinara was plain and uneventful and the dish arrived lukewarm. Also our server was a bit grumpy, one friend asked if she could take a picture of us “when she has a minute” and she brusquely responded “I have your food right behind you”, then ignored her request after she was done serving the food. I won’t be coming here again, too many other options in the same price range.
Great ambiance and it's finally a restaurant that doesn't have background music you must try to talk over. The service was great and the food was very good. I think some items such as the Appetizers are way over-priced but I don't think the entrees are. We'll definitely be back.
i thought getting a reservation would help but they stuck us in the corner with no scenery and many open seats in better places.
Slow indifferent service. Salad plates were left uncleared while the assistant servers walked by multiple times.
Arrived early. Sat at bar. Table by window cozy. Food delicious. House wines lacking. Gelato tasty.
He offered me salmon which is nothing like Bronzino, He said they could do shrimp, which they did in abundance. But it came out more like a stirfry instead of a grill. This was a server issue, not the kitchen. I was exec. Chef for many years.
Christmas Eve Dinner was fabulous. A tradition for us over the last few years. Highly recommend the evening for a special way to celebrate the holidays.
Christmas Eve dinner spent with our 93 year old mom at Il Fornaio. Delicious food and cocktails. We were sat out in the enclosed patio with the heaters on. When we first got there, there a small family of 4 but by the time we left there was three parties of 8-10 right behind us. My mom has a hard time hearing so we finished our dessert and departed. Never disappointed, always impressed with Il Fornaio.
Forgot our salads.
Food was just warm.
We made reservations on Christmas Eve for our 1-year anniversary. We were disappointed that the waiter didn’t do anything special even though he knew it was a special occasion. The restaurant was quite noisy and a staff member was preparing to go orders (constantly stapling receipts to bags) right next to our table. Might give it one more try (for lunch next time), but if the experience is the same will probably opt to spend our money elsewhere.
We've dined here many times, never disappoints, always delicious. Sign up to join their club for a free antipasto.
Food wasn't hot, restaurant seemed poorly maintained and not clean. They charge $2.00 for bread now but it wasn't their previous good bread. Their wines by the glass were very limited and some were out of stock.
Restaurant seemed very 'tired' and has clearly seen better days. Financial problems maybe?
We were in for Christmas Eve Dinner. We had asked for a small booth at the back of the restaurant by a bank of windows. When we arrived we were told those booths were not available - that they were only available for parties of 4 and we were 2. Two of the 3 booths remained empty during our entire dinner. The third was seated just as we were leaving. We dine at Il Fornaio several times a year and find this seating practice really disrespectful to diners. We noted that a few of the large booths had 4 people seated at them... Aside from the seating irritation, our server was wonderful and we are glad to see that Il Fornaio is hiring more female servers. We each ordered a different special and enjoyed each very much. Bottom line: Great food, Great server, really irritating seating protocols....
My sister and I wanted to have a traditional seafood dinner for Christmas Eve and thought Il Fornaio would be the best place in Sacramento. We normally cook the seafood feast ourselves but it was just us this year. We were a bit late for our 5pm reservation but they said no worries and were seated right away. The waiter was very attentive, food was wonderful, and ambiance was very “holiday special”. Every meal we have there is a special occasion. I also had what is now one of my favorite desserts- the Affogato.
As always the food is amazing.. The vodka sauce I could drink! Our server was so nice! We appreciate so so much that they work xmas eve so we can enjoy a wonderful meal!
Their food was wonderful as always. The service was great. It’s a wonderful place to have a nice meal.
Il Fornaio is one of my favorite places to dine, especially during the holidays. The restaurant is always decorated beautifully making for a festive occasion. As always, the food and service were excellent. We began with yummy bread, arriving hot at the table. Perfection. Margarita pizza, pasta pomodoro, butternut squash ravioli, caesar salad and lentil soup. All goobled up. Desert was comprised of a lot of gelato. Highly recommend Il Fornaio Sacramento!
First time here and definitely not the last . Perfect for any celebration , personal or big. In the heart of downtown where there is parking garages and street parking. Love the setting. Can’t wait to come back
Il Fornaio never disappoints! This was probably one of the best Il Fornaio meals, and it was my fiftieth at an Il Fornaio, second at this location. My guest had never been. He was very impressed. Just please bring back zabaglione!
We had a lovely holiday luncheon. The room is so beautiful and decked out in Christmas decoration. Our server was lovely and lunch was delicious. Perfect holiday venue.
Wonderful meal and service. Great setting for the holidays.
It’s always a huge treat to dine at Il Forniao, and to see the great staff. Even the ones serving other tables always takes the time to stop and welcome us.
The best, and the food is delicious!
We had a great waitress. Very professional. Food and service and ambiance were lovely.
We went there for birthday dinner celebrations. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Would recommend the place for special occasions
Il Fornaio, downtown Sacramento is one of my favorite area restaurants. Parking is convenient and validated. The restaurants atmosphere is very nice. Five in my party, had a round table as requested, ideal for conversation. Service was very good and appreciated especially considering how busy things were. Cocktails to start. The food was very good. Shared Caesar's, and a variety of entrées. I'm fond of the Tagliatelle Bolognese, wide flat pasta with hearty meaty ragu. Short ribs, steak, and a chicken dish were popular. We brought multiple bottles of wine and there were service charges and fair. Separate wine glasses were available for the individual wines. I recommend this Il Fornaio.
