Il Fornaio - Roseville Ratings and Reviews
Just wanted to add that our server was polite, friendly and kept checking to make sure glasses were filled with water—but not overly checking.
The special ‘birthday dessert ’ was an added treat and was very delicious.
I had not been here for 5 years and hope it is not long before I go again.
The butternut squash entree was absolutely delicious!
We are very frequent customers., but this evening was not quite as we imagined. The kitchen were making a lot of noise - the server was nice but obviously new at it. No wine taste after corking, didn’t refill our glasses ( we did). After coffee served we err basically forgotten. A bit of a disappointing evening especially for celebrating NYE ! Food was delicious as always - but almost everyone working seemed pre - occupied. Perhaps anticipating the celebration for their evening - oh well. Most visits are very good.
We have dined at Il Fornaio many times and on New Years Eve on several occasions and have always had a great meal. A small group of us dined this year on New Years Eve and were greeted with a very uninspired server and not very friendly. The server did not even offer to pour our wine. When our meals finally arrived, most all of them were "very cold"! We don't usually complain, but even the plates were cold to the touch. The manager had to be summoned and he did comp our meals, which was very commendable, but instead of just apologizing, he made excuses and with an attitude! It is doubtful if we will return anytime soon and especially for a special occasion.
I have been coming here with family for 10 years and it never disappoints. The food is excellent, with a choice of the regular menu or the ever- changing regional menus, there’s always something for everyone. The service is always above average and the atmosphere is upscale, great for any occasion!!
Everything was perfect for Christmas Eve dinner. We came early at 4:00. Only thing was when leaving, the entryway inside the restaurant was very dark. Benches inside are nice but have legs that stick out. I tripped on the bench leg which sticks out, but thankfully I caught myself. Good thing because I had a knee replacement 6 weeks ago. I am very steady on my feet but those bench legs are not safe.. I told the receptionist area, and they acted like it was no big thing and basically ignored me. Some time soon, you might want to think about replacing those benches especially when it is dark in the entryway. Also inform your reception to “care” when someone trips. It could have been a scary situation (think surgery on my new kneee)? Safety should be of utmost importance. Other than this, we had a fabulous time and the food was fantastico!
depending on the selection the food could be excellent or merely good--i ordered the sea bass and although the fish itself was lovely, it had a sauce i didn't care for--would have preferred a lemon based sauce instead of the tomato based that was served--but that's just me--the accompaniments of mashed potatoes and spinach i quite enjoyed--and the restaurant was pretty quiet so we could converse and relax--all in all il fornaio is one of the few good eating places in roseville
Sampled the best of their regional menus, the spaghetti Mazzara was awesome. My wife really liked her ravioli. We had one the long time waiters serving us so service was top notch. all the food was served hot with just the right time between courses. The restaurant was crowded with holiday shoppers and parties but they did not miss a beat.
Scheduled a company/team holiday dinner weeks in advance. The time was set for 6:15PM. I arrived early to have a drink and checked in early understanding that this time of the year can be a little hectic. I checked in about 6PM, I checked back in at 615 and again at 630. The reasoning was another group was on over on the time expected. I asked for a plan "B". Manager said he was working on a solution. 45 minutes after scheduled reservation we were seated.
Appetizers were offered as compensation.
Everything is usually 5 star but this time my food had grit/sand (sea food not cleaned properly) and then ordered Lasagna but returned that too—-corner piece-hard/burnt. Kitchen must have had a bad day. My friend’s dish was fine. I had dessert for dinner....Manager was great and apologized for my food and waived cost. Because of Manager, Tyler, I will go again next week for another special luncheon.
I found the food to be a bit disappointing. I had gnocci that was smothered with red meat sauce and a small salad that wasn't much other than lettuce. I should have gone with the cream sauce or the gnocci because I could barely taste the pasta. The salad was served only when my friend mentioned I hadn't gotten it, but I was already through with my entree.
