Good food, friendly efficient wait staff...lovely patio. Only complaint requested very crisp bacon and it came out "floppy". Waiter immediately said he would bring me out a new order and theyn did so and it was just as "floppy as the first order. Not sure why the cooks don't understand how to make crisp bacon. I decided not to complain a second time and just didn't eat it
Last minute Saturday night reservation. It was busy with families but service was friendly. A little slow to pick up order and bring the bill.
My fiancé and I had a great time celebrating our anniversary. Thank you to our waitress for the desert!
lack luster food , at least from regular menu. members of our party that ordered from the "Seasonal" special menu found their food very tasty. Those of us that ordered from the regular menu were not impressed. Minestrone soup had ZERO flavor, meatball and polenta app was disappointing (The polenta was actually watery and flavorless) , Capelini Ala Pomparo was just okay not worth $18.50, Same can be said for the Pennoni Alla Vodka, just okay also not worth $20.50. Overall food feels more like the level of Olive Garden. Better Italian can be found elsewhere for same price .
Lovely place for our regular lunch - friendly staff, nice selection in menu, good wine list, reasonable prices, nice ambiance - would live more and varied vegetarian options in menu and specials
Nice meal but, especially as it is an Italian restaurant, I was surprised there weren’t more veggie options.
I don't believe I have ever written a negative open table review. But this place unfortunately earned that distinction in spades!
About the only upside was we were seated right on time. But service was down hill fast from there. First waiter greeted us saying he'd be right with us. Then after too many minutes, a completely different server came, acting like we'd just been seated and took our drinks order and then disappeared apparently along with our drink order. After more than 5 minutes of nothing, Bus boy brought bread but there weren't even beard plates let alone water or our drinks. A third server (or who we thought was a manager) came with our drinks and took our food order. The appetizer came and was fine but then the worst bitter faced food runner brought our main course and did all but chastise us for not having our places cleared to allow her to drop our food and run. We waited another 5 minutes hoping one of the three people we'd seen so far would come by to offer parmesan or pepper but no one made an appearance. At this point I'd had enough and when the very first waiter was flagged down and we asked for our check, the only thing he could muster about our situation was "you don't want these?".
Waiter #3 (manager) came by asking if we wanted them wrapped to go. No thank you.
For a place that clearly was not wanting for staff, and who was ultimately providing a dine-a-dozen Italian food experience, I have never experienced such indifferent service nor such we could care less response to an obvious customer service lapse. You have hundreds of alternatives to this place. For price and service, take your dining dollars anywhere but here.
Fresh and yummy food, fantastic ambiance, great service
Easter brunch with my family. We were put in the very back room of the restaurant. Which I really didn’t care for at all. The service & our waiter was great. The food was good. But the ambiance was terrible.
Best brunch menu and enjoyed the waffles with strawberries, bananas and whipped cream!
We were having Easter meal with family. But restaurant still had skimpy Christmas poinsettias in a nice large Italian pots. Kind of sad... other than that, things were good as usual.
Delicious food as always and service with a smile!
We enjoy breakfast early Sunday mornings. We like the French toast, granola and eggs bacon and potatoes - it’s consistent, friendly and most important clean
Food was excellent. The waiter was pretty nice but hard to find and it didn’t seem that busy.
The food was fair. Most bites of the pesto pasta had in-eatable pieces of artichoke in it. The salmon was way over cooked and therefore dry. The braised ribs were well textured but not very tasty. Our waiter was attentive. I’ve always liked the ambiance of the restaurant although it is a bit noisy but not outrageously so.
All was wonderful except for a nagging question as to whether the waiter strongly suggested a particular Chardonnay even though it was quite expensive.
Great experience. Food was fantastic and the service was amazing. Perfect place to eat dinner before going to the movies.
The pasta dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The grilled salmon and asparagus were perfectly cooke. Really exceptionally crafted martini.
Overall a good experience. Food and service was good, prices okay. Made reservations via open table and mentioned that it was a Birthday Lunch, expecting a little acknowledgement but nothing, very disappointing.
Split a salad and delicious pizza for dinner with wine. Great service from our waiter.
Enjoyed a beautiful dinner , kudos to our very sweet and efficient waitress Rosa last sat . She made us feel very welcomed !
Thank you very much Rosa !
Enjoyable evening. It was quiet so we were able to converse throughout the evening. It was a nice touch for the restaurant to present us with some fudge and ice cream as an anniversary gift. Towards the high end of the market place it is one of our favorite restaurants.
Always a pleasant time — good food and service —nice selections of good wine
I eat at the Pasadena and Burlingame restaurants often, and generally love it! This is the second time I ordered veal (this time from the regional menu). The piccata I ordered previously and this evening's offering were both tough. Veal should be should be melt-in-your-mouth! I won't ever order it again. Other than that, it was a lovely evening on the patio with great wine and side dishes!
Food is fine. Plesan
My only quibble is with waiters who, UNPROMPTED, offer their personal favorites. Curiously, these must-have dishes are usually the higher ticket items. I get the impression that management wants them to do this as a way of establishing a rapport with the diners and selling $ items.
I find it very off-putting.
Other than that, I love Il Fornaio and recommend it highly.
Great interior space, outdoor patio looks like it’ll be a 10 when the weather improves. The spaghetti with meatballs had very little “marinara”, and when I asked for more, it took FOREVER.
Server not attentive, should have been back to offer more wine sooner, pasta was terrible.
Ambience alone does not a good restaurant make. We will never eat here again.
This is my go to place for great Italian food in Pasadena. The service is always really good. They take reservations on OpenTable which makes it easier when you want to make last-minute reservations. The food is so great. I love so many of the pasta dishes. They have valet service right in front of Sephora of Colorado which makes it easy for parking. There's tons of shops around so you can have a great time. Their wine selection isn't large but they do have quite a few good wines. I definitely will go back.
Tasty, authentic food. Specials from different regions of Italy are always interesting. Noise level increases as the evening goes on, but we were off to the theater by then.
Felt very rushed. Portions are getting smaller and prices going up
some food was cold but overall meal was fine. I will go back.
Had requested some stuff and they didn’t do anything if that
We came here for Valentine's Day with a gift card generously given to me at work. We have a great experience from the moment we walked in. Very friendly hostesses and a wonderful server who kept our evening going smoothly. It's in a great area so we could walk to some bars afterwards. The Spumoni gelato was awesome. We hope to come back!
Our service was absolutely stellar. The food was delicious. The whole experience was the perfect night out to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary!
Great food and environment. We were originally seated near the patio door, which brought a draft each time the door opened. The wait staff was kind enough to re-seat us without a hassle. Thanks!
The food was ok. Flavor not very authentic for its value. Service from waitress was good but waterman wasnt very conscious in saving water as he kept filling the glass without asking.
We came for a romantic Valentine dinner ( a day early). The food and wine were both delicious and our waitress could not have been better. She was friendly, knew the menu and was attentive to us. The atmosphere was just right for us.
Our waitress Sylvia was attentive and checked on us often even with her having a few tables to serve. She is a native Italian with beautiful accent which made our dining experience even more authentic along with the great food we had (delicious mushroom pasta with black truffle).
Very good service. Food was very good.
