unfortunately salad was not dressed. gnocchi was way overcooked. We didn't complain as it seemed pointless and just wanted to leave.

New Year’s Eve dinner
We had a very nice time at Il Fornaio-Pasadena. The service was excellent and the atmosphere bright & busy but not loud, very pleasant. Our only disappointment was that 4 of 5 of us ordered a gnocchi entre & the gnocchi was overcooked - really mushy. Too bad because the bolognese with them was so delicious! Quite pricey as well.
I have been to Il Fornaio several times and was really disappointed for the first time. For starters, the bruschetta didn’t have much flavor and the bread was really tough. I ordered the short ribs and it was not tender nor had much flavor. My friend had the lasagna and said it was good. Our server started out strong and then went MIA. I saw her chatty with another server at one point and a manager did tell them to break it up. I was disappointed overall and don’t know that I’d go back next time I am in town.
Resturant is unwilling to split salads, which are large, even for an extra fee. An extra plate is brought in it’s up to the diner to split their own salad. There’s no reason why this can’t be done in the kitchen. Dining room is large and open and would tend to be noisy under any circumstance. This occasion was New Year’s Eve and the restaurant was crowded.
We all had pasta dishes which were good, but not great. We enjoyed the complimentary bread & olive oil.
Our server was attentive on a busy NYE. We liked the contemporary ambience.

The food was good and the service was polite but not attentive. It took us 2 hours to dine because the waiter took a lot of time between communications. It’s possible that they were low on staff.
The Bolognese is amazing but I’ve never had anything else here that I’d order again. It’s loud but expected at an Italian restaurant. It was busy so it could be why the service was slow, the wrong entree was brought out, and the soup was cold. But when brought to the attention of the manager he quickly corrected the errors, removed the cold soup from the bill and sent over a glass of wine. I will go back for the tagliatelle bolognese. It’s excellent.

Lovely evening on their beautiful patio for a birthday (which was not recognized nor mentioned, so adding that note on the OT res is pointless). We were able to be spaced out and all arriving guests and staff were masked. The inside restaurant was packed.,, glad we reserved a spot on the patio. We ended up compromising on our wine selection due to very limited offerings by the glass making a bottle the only acceptable option—- just an FYI. We will return!
Latte was really horrible in flavor and texture. Strangely served in a beer mug. Food was subpar.
I’m new plant based eater but knew eating at Il Fornaio, being a fav restaurant of my niece, I would need to be flexible. I found four items and ordered three. Enjoyed them all. My niece and I had a wonderful experience.
We had a reservation and were promptly seated. Our table was in the patio, the heaters were on, it felt welcoming. Without delay the hostess brought the bread basket and the waiter brought the drinks. We had pasta -one was gluten free, lasagna and pizza. The quality of both food and drinks was excellent. The server was attentive. It was overall an enjoyable evening.
My only suggestion would be to increase the distance among tables.
We sat on the patio and it was lovely and quiet. Inside is noisier, I know from experience. Great food.

Always reliable Italian food served in a good location in old town Pasadena
Initial seating was great, food was wonderful as usual, waiter hard to find, never came back to check if meal was ok, used plates were left between courses in stead of removed while waiting, server argumentative about luke-warm coffee with dessert. We'll return because this service was an anomaly
