About Il Fornaio - Manhattan Beach
Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2007.

Il Fornaio - Manhattan Beach Ratings and Reviews
We were greeted by a pleasant hostess, and overall, we had very good service. They bus people were helpful and available. The fresh, warm bread was excellent, as were all of the pasta dishes that we ordered. A good wine list with reasonable prices and great desserts made for a lovely meal.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Il Fornaeio Thursday night. We shared a $35 special 3-course regional prix fixe dinner and ordered an extra beet salad along with three 6 oz tasting wines. Our waiter David was fantastic. He made great recommendations and even gave us complimentary soup. Everything was delicious! Wait staff was courteous and professional. Ambience was lovely, much nicer than I remember it last time we visited. Soft lighting and comfortable seating added to my enjoyment. Highly recommended.
Food was nice and service was excellent. Just a bit disappointed that we came to celebrate both of my daughters birthday (twins) that were actually on the day we were there. We were charged for the birthday dessert (just one that we had to order) and nothing special was brought out (other than they put 2 candles in it). Really thought that they would at least provide a birthday dessert, especially since the bill was $150.00!
Oh well, guess we won't be coming here again for any other celebrations in the future. :(
It was a quiet pre-Halloween weekend. Sunday was very quiet but the staff managed all the customers professionally and efficiently. As it was not too busy, I made particular changes to my brunch main course, and our waiter was kind enough to accommodate. Unfortunately, the bartender was slammed (not sure how with less than 50 customers at 12 tables, but our secind round of Mimosas took 15+ minutes to be served. Way too long...
We were very pleased with everything. Five of us went for dinner and it could not have been more perfect. We ordered four dishes, which we shared: Insalata di bietole (with beets), Cristina pizza, tagliatelle alla bolognase pasta, and veal scaloppine with lemon. It was just enough food and we had room for an affogato (ice cream with espresso coffee) for each of us. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Dinner at Il Fornaio was excellent - a well rounded meal, great service, nice wine by the glass selection and variety. Consistently a reliable “go to” for a nice getaway dinner out. Felt like dining at a nice restaurant in Florence, Italy. Thanks for your hospitality !
Great food and wine after a long day of business meetings. Knowledgeable and helpful waiters not afraid to give recommendations. While nice to be able to converse leisurely with the other diner, service was a bit too slow at the end of a very long day. But I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat!
What a beautiful restaurant! We were greeted from about 5 people on our way to our table. Our waitress was super sweet but very professional. We received complimentary soup from the chef. Our dinners were outstanding. And to finish off we had Gelato with espresso over the top! Wow! To finish our amazing meal, the head chef came over and made sure we were happy with our meal..... I will SO go again!
I have been to Il Fornaio a number of times and always enjoyed the food and overall experience, however this time it was quite disappointing. Service was mediocre, the insalata di pollo was rather insipid and the chicken tasted like store bought rotisserie chicken found in under heaters at most grocery stores. I wouldn’t recommend it.
There are good Italian restaurants, there are great Italian restaurants and then there is " Il Fornaio " a SPECTACULAR Italian restaurant.
In today's ho-hum world it is hard to find well prepared food ,coupled with world class service and an operations VP who not only " chats" with us customers but takes time to acknowledge the staff either side of the kitchen. Frank Licata is such a person
