Been going here for 19 years. Was always great, but service now is awful. 3rd time I have had to wait 30 plus min even though I make reservations. Terrible communication. Ended up sitting in bar. Waiter was nice but we won't be back. Sad.
Good food (finally). Server was overwhelmed with Father’s Day crowd I guess we had to ask for bread four times (they charge for it now). We’ll give it another try when it’s not a holiday.
Delicious food, as always. Service was professional, but a bit “cold”. We had to ask several times for drink refills, other items, since he rarely checked in on us. He couldn’t provide us with a suggestion on sparkling wine, and you can tell they must not serve much, since the label on the bottle was moldy. But still a very nice meal overall. I had the grilled seafood platter which was delicious!
I ordered burrata with heirloom tomatoes. The tomatoes were not heirloom tomatoes. They were regular tomatoes and probably not even hothouse as they were tasteless. The burrata was either a bad quality or old. It lacked the creamy, tasty flavor, I expect from burrata.
We enjoy this this place. They may be a little out of practice in serving a big dining room at near full capacity as the service was a little shaky compared to usual.
Not what it used to be - maybe still recovering from the last year. Food was OK but nothing special, it was noisy and there was some confusion around our seating despite having a reservation.
The food was okay. Nothing special. Service was very good.
What is the Covid surcharge for? Never seen that before? Pizza not recommended. Food mediocre
Well, I have been to this restaurant for dinner many times and I have always had a nice experience. I wanted my husband to try it so we went last night. Unfortunately, our server didn't get hubby's order right and when he admitted his error, he pretty much stopped serving us. The food was good, but I was very disappointed with the service. I thought that the server should have done something to compensate for his error...like maybe free desert? But nothing.
Great dining experience. Pasta was so good. The bread was yummy...
It was a $100 dinner and they made my girlfriend put her box of leftovers together herself. Like, really dude?
Food was excellent. I was hard to hear our fast talking server. He spoke too quickly and his accent didn't help.
Disappointed in the food and service. Our waiter was very transactional, not friendly or helpful. Food was not as good as it used to be and we were shocked when we saw the bill. Won't be back for a long time.
Food was great - service was lacking a bit from What I expected. Will certainly try again.
Very rude at reception
Good experience. Ok food, not so Italian the wine and and buffarata was great. Rissoto was a little bland. But overall a cool spot
Great choice of items on the menu—they’ll even take special orders that aren’t on the menu. This isn’t a big national chain Italian restaurant, so you pay a little more, but it’s worth it. Good choice of aperitifs, wines, and digestifs.
Our service was excellent and the food was very good. We will return..
If you are looking for something intimate this is the spot for you! The ambience is perfect! The food was amazing, the wine was great. Definitely, will be returning.
This space is absolutely beautiful and the service staff is always on point. Definitely opt for the bread basket! We look forward to returning to try the pizza.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We had been craving Italian food. Everything was great!
This restaurant is a great place. I love the ambiance, the decor, the service and the food. Suggest trying the lamb chops with spinach and mashed potatoes. The white wine specials are great for the price.
I decided to go with my GF to have diner for the first time since it was closed for coding last year. I absolutely had a great diner. The service was great. I must say, I’m a little disappointed at the fact this restaurant doesn’t give complimentary bread to get your started. I was told the menu was recently changed and the bread will be given for additional charge. It was little loud, maybe because I was seated sorta next to the kitchen. I totally recommend the lasagna. Overall I give a 4 stars. Btw, be prepared to spend some money. Inflation is no joke.
Just for all I heard food was not that much to look at for a 54 dollar ribeye service was ok nothing to brag about.
This was a disappointment as we have enjoyed Il Fornaio in San Jose several times.
The decor seems tired and our server Trinidad was distracted and slow.
Server was speaking politics very loud with following guests. Not an appropriate setting. I own 5 venues in San Diego and I know when to tell my staff to stop being loud with uncomfortable subjects. Cheers.
Food was great and I loved the ambiance.
I was impressed by the shrimp, but I was expecting the food to be on par with the ambiance and the prices, but it just wasn't. I am used to small servings at nicer places. An appetizer, drinks (plural), entree, and dessert was barely enough to get full.
We made a reservation for 8pm. We got there at 7:45 we were not seated until 8:15pm. Then our waiter was not attentive. My husband had to ask for water 3 times before he actually got it and it was 20 mins before we left. They took out menus so we didn’t order desert even though it was our intention. I also never got a chance to order my glass of wine because our waiter rarely came to our table. The food was great. Overall I wish we had a better experience.
Mother’s Day celebration
Delicious!! Thank you!
Nice ambiance, space feels open and airy. Food was very good.
Great good and great service!
Food was delicious. Our waiter, Dan, was phenomenal - very friendly and very helpful!
Il Fornaio is a nice place that didn't live up to my expectations based on the reviews. The truffle and mushroom flavor of the Norcina Con Pollo was excellent, but this was offset by chicken pieces that were chunky firm. They had a very nice selection of Italian varietal wines, but our server wasn't much help selecting among them. The Italian decor and the small (Covid-limited) crowd made the ambiance very nice.
Everything was wonderful. It was nice to dine in once again. The food was doctors and fresh. The service was amazing.
Bus boy was a star. Got a nice tip from me. Waitress needs additional training.
Great food. Great seegice
