The female server on duty was not attentive. The restaurant was not even busy. She was slow to take our beverage orders after being seated. My party had to ask for more water and coffee. She did not bother to check on us. Server was not familiar with dessert menu options. Manhattan Beach employees should learn from the Pasadena and Newport Beach branches who are always on point and professional.
Rud was great. Thank you
The ambiance is lovely. However, we had several quality issues throughout our experience. To avoid a long explanation, the summary is there were dirty dishes, wrong orders brought the table at least 3 times, and steak overcooked. The server took over 15 minutes to greet our table. I hope it was just an off night based on reviews, but the greatest issue was the lack of accountability on the behalf of the management and us needing to guide them on how to properly address the issues. There are so many restaurant options in the area to warrant taking the risk on this place that they may or may not be on their game.
I always enjoy Il Fornaio. My Husband and I have been going here for dinner for many years now. I can always get something delicious even though I rarely eat meat! Love the soups. The pizzas and the pastas are always fresh and tasty.
A wonderful restaurant! We tried a variety of menu items and all were all good. The waiter was very helpful in accommodating the kids and coming up with something that they found delicious.
I just love this Place for the great staff and their excellent food with it's changing menus from Italy. RW
Went for Father’s Day. 5 of us had the seafood combination and it didn’t smell or taste real fresh also had too much oil on it. Service too slow. This restaurant usually better. We keep finding local places seem to struggle on holidays.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and the service was good. However, the food was just average. I tried the Ceasar salad, short ribs w mash & spinach and a pasta dish. My husband had blackened salmon w mash and veggies. My father got spaghetti. I had a taste for lasagna but it was not on the menu. The presentation of the spumoni ice cream was interesting. It arrived on a plate with chocolate and strawberry syrup with cut pieces of ice cream.
very nice place and fantastic service and excellent food all very complete
Food was delicious! Server was great! We had a nice table for our party of 10 with lots of room.
The main dining space is along the expo line so you get a view of what's happening in the kitchen. There are also more secluded dining rooms, not private, that you can be seated in.
the Regional menu was very seafood heavy, so we were looking forward to it. The mussels were fat and good, the seafood stew was good, the cod was good and.... the regular menu chicken shell pasta was good. I thought it had more pasta than other stuff, but it wasn't my order. The dessert (custard tart with fruit) was a good topper, but we had it to go for later - a lot of food. You never go away hungry here.
Every time that we come here, it's always quiet, Very Friendly and Welcoming. The food is always Great and very tasty . Well worth the price.
Overall good, but nothing spectacular.
I’ve been dining at Il Fornaio for a few years now and everytime has been a great experience. The food is always delicious and the service exceptional. I’ve moved out of state but I still make sure I dine here every time I visit.
Beautiful location, large, spacious, good volume and spacing between tables. In a group of 6 we had 2 late comers, and the service was excellent in helping us wait for the two: some wine, fresh bread replenished continuously with oil and Mondena vinegar, appetizers, and so on. Try the day menu, besides the classic one, excellent selection.
Excellent food; very clean; impeccable service, make sure you request David as your server. David is professional, personable and friendly.
Always a lovely time. We enjoy our time every time!
Always consistent and tasty; although our last visit the meat in the veal scallopini wasn't pounded thin as it should be. It was a bit thick and as a result a little tough. The sauce and flavors were excellent though. Service was attentive as usual.
As always, the food was delicious and the service pace just right!
Excellent food and service!
Great food, ambience, service.
Manuel was our waiter. He is always so friendly and takes such good care of us. We really appreciate his knowledge about the food and the wine. His wine choices are always right on. Thanks to Manuel, the chef and the staff for a great dinner!
Good service, good food. Went for business would go again.
Delicious food, wonderful service
we had the Regioanal eggplant marinara and the lobster/seafood spaghetti. .. Plus the whole roasted branzino which is fabulous. The eggplant marinara is good and the spaghetti was a lot and loaded with shrimp. The ladies loved the branzino, one of the best things on the menu.
Love the monthly regional menu. This month I had the bean soup and seafood risotto - delicious. David, our waiter, is always the best. I just wish that corporate would send out the emails about each month's menu at least a week before the event rather than the first day. Makes it hard to plan a group. Also - bring back the little gifts rather than the coupon for a free appetizer, soup or dessert later in the month.
Been going here for years and it’s usually very good. But this was not a good experience. Plenty of tables available but was seated next to the servers access to the kitchen. Asked for another table. The hostess didn’t like the idea but moved us. Service was awful . There were 2 of us and we decided to split a calamari appetizer and a salad since both were large portions. We ordered Pasta Bolognese as the main course. The Calamari was served and within 3 minutes the manager sat the salad on the edge of the table and left before we could even say anything. We finally flagged down the server and said this was unacceptable and her response was we have a very large party and don’t want other customers to wait. We said we were in no hurry and to please make sure the entrees were not served until we asked for them . She agreed. Finished the appetizers and salads ..literally as my friend was taking the last bite from his salad.. A bus person cleared all of the plates and flat wear. Took the forks off the plates and sat them on the table mixing the two. 3 min later the entrees were brought out. We asked for new flat wear and asked for the server. The pasta bolognese is my favorite dish here so we ordered it. It had very little taste hardly any meat sauce and the pasta tasted like flour. Ate what we could, left the rest. Server returned to ask how it was. Told her it was awful and in the 40 minutes we had been there, they had served 3 different courses. We declined desert . Once more she explained they had a very large party and it threw everything off. Asked for the check. When she returned she said they had taken the 2 entrees off . Dinner with tip was still $80 and that’s with sharing and one glass of wine. Sorry to say I will not return . There are much better ITALIAN restaurants in the area. This like many established restaurants rely on reputation and forego food quality and service. It’s sad but true
Il Fornaio is one of our favorite places to go. The food is always good and the staff is always friendly.
We visited on Mother’s Day and had a great experience. We made a reservation and we’re seated promptly which isn’t always the case when you go out on Mother’s Day. Our server was kind and patient with our party. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
$45 for cold, bone-dry french toast and two pieces of soggy smoked salmon toast (open face), no drinks. Couldn’t get any service, and the manager was rude. With so many other places to spend money, I won’t be back!
My family and I had a nice lunch at I’ll Fornaio on Mother’s Day. Service was excellent considering how busy the staff was & food was tasty and fresh. We even got a private room just for ourselves. Only complaint is that we had to wait over 10 minutes because the restaurant didn’t open on time at 11:00!
Open table reservation ease-check
Greeted by hostess- check*
*(although she seemed preoccupied with how busy the restaurant was than with actually greeting us with either a smile or anything other than a smug welcome. Then it was rush rush to your table and they disappeared. I do have to say, the goodbye at the door was much warmer than the hello
Server- Kimberly was a Rockstar! She managed to clean up where the hostess at the front door struck out. She recommended several dishes, beverages and desserts. Follow through was professional and her timing back to table was on point.
Food- extremely disappointing. The pasta was cold, the vodka sauce wasn’t creamy or pink and the pasta was homemade but stuck together The sauce was also lumpy which signals improper mix, unless it pre packaged which would be disappointing. The Bronzino was room temperature and definitively not European. The mashed potatoes served with the fish was also served at room temperature.
Wine sampling- was way off. The wines didn’t match up or represent their menu descriptions.
Beer was served warm and flat.
Italian experience-non existent.
Decided to try the restaurant since authentic Italian food is a rare commodity in California. This was my last and disappointing attempt to find a decent pasta. This location however was marginally better than any of the locations in Northern California.
The food business is a tough and even tougher when guests have true and authentic dining experiences. Special Note to the kitchen staff: A table for two is equally important as a table for 12. We decided not to return our food with the fear that it would take even longer to correct, but the 2 tables next to us sent theirs back.
This was a very disappointing dining experience for us. Moving on.
Always consistent good food ,good service and overall great experience.
Excellent Italian delicacy (especially seafoods) with great ambience & service!
Not your traditional Italian menu, but some good choices. We both had seafood pasta dishes- good, not great. Wine list was decent. Nice ambiance, but tables were very close together. Service was excellent, food came out very fast.
We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Out server was friendly and attentive but did not rush us. The tables were spaced so that we were never bothered by others conversations and the noise level was such that we could carry on a conversation. All in all it was a relaxing enjoyable evening.
Excellent food, wait staff and ambiance made this dining experience quite enjoyable. We will definitely be back.
