Il Fornaio - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
It was our first time, the waiter was very helpful and friendly and got us bruschetta on the house. It was extremely fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with smoked salmon and I got the capellini pomodoro and both were amazing. We concluded our meal with a cafe latte for hubby and dark chocolate ice cream for me they were truly the cherry on top. Definitely recommend this restaurant and will be back if we are in the area!
We go to Il Fornaio on a monthly basis, and this time we found they had made several changes! I liked it the way it was, so I was a bit worried. The foods still come from a particular area of Italy, but it's just handled a different way. By the time we finished the evening, we decided we actually liked the new way because there's more freedom to order from the night's menu in combination with their regular menu. Apparently, it's also easy for groups because no one has to wait while others finish a particular part of the menu, like the pasta section and then the main dish. The food was particularly delicious this evening, too. It will be interesting to see how it goes in the coming months, but it seems like some thoughtful changes.
The location is not so good, the GPS can never take you to the front door, it will always tell you that you have arrived but you may not. The parking building is so complicated, it takes you 20 mins to find you car. Food is good, but the location is horrible.
Nice place in a well designed restaurant with high ceilings. The Italian food is very good. I might like a broader selection of standard Italian fare for picky young eaters who may want to design their own Italian dish. The waiters know their stuff and take care of you very well.
This restaurant has been an old "stand-by" for business lunches/dinners as well as personal special occasions and it has never disappointed. This most recent experience we were there on a Saturday night of a holiday weekend. Despite the place being very busy, our service was excellent as was all the food. I'll continue to return.
We had dinner a few days before Christmas, and enjoyed the beautiful decorations. Even though the restaurant was busy, we were seated right away because we had a reservation. The food was not as good as I remember mainly because my squash ravioli was lukewarm. Additionally, the server forgot to bring one person's wine. Because she didn't check back with us, it was some time before we could flag someone to bring the wine... and we had to flag a second person before we finally received it.
I am a very good customer of IlFornaio since more than 20 years ago. I organized meals, special events. I always felt very good with the food, meals and service. Last Thursday I had a different experience. I reserved the table in advance and I requested a quiet table far from the kitchen. I am familiar with the place so I know that close to the kitchen is very noisy and very warm and it is not fun to be seated in that area. When we arrived they gave us a table for 7 in the area that I asked no to. I asked the hostess to change us to another table that was empty and she was not helpful, fortunately there was a gentleman who that try to help me but there was another lady who also was not helpful. I felt discriminated by both, the gentleman was nice and helpful and he moved us to another table that it was better but not the best. We asked for one salad (spinach with salmon) and it was very spice almost impossible to eat, I asked for a salad with salmon and it was OK but the salmon was not fresh and I ended sick. I am very sad to see that this amazing restaurant is loosing its touch of excellence.
This restaurant is a 5 star find with Authentic delicious Italian Dishes served old world style by attentive professional wait staff. Hostess is both friendly and accommodating and the pace of serve comfortable yet attentive. The restaurant is beautifully appointed and is casually comfortable with a touch of elegance. The valet parking although free of charge was difficult so park yourself and take a short walk.
We didn’t have good service and the quality of the food was not very good. I’m glad we had dinner to see if this would be a good place for my daughters bridal shower unfortunately we’ve decided not to have the event there because of the quality of the food and service.
Restaurant was difficult to find because the address is Von Karman. But its NOT on Von Karman. Good squash ravioli. Good Arugula salad. But when I told our waiter my friend and I planned to split each, I thought the kitchen would do it for us. So then we had to wait for extra plates after the fact. For the prices they charge, I expect a little better service. And our food came before we were even served our wine. :-(
The inside is very noisy. The outdoor patio is a little quieter. I like white table cloths on the tables and the ambiance. Would go back and give it another try and maybe have dessert next time.
I have enjoyed Il Fornaio’s regional three course tasting menu ($36.95) for at least four years now. It is a very good value, the quality of the ingredients are excellent. Three courses includes antipasti or zuppa, pasta, and secondi. Tonight I had the salad of fennel, endive, pine nuts, celery, carrots, watercress, and quinoa with a vinaigrette dressing. Radicchio, mushroom lasagna. Grilled filet of branzino (sea bass) with black and green olives, capers, and cherry tomatoes...perfect with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. They also offer a $16 wine flight of white and red wines. Download the Il Fornaio app and collect points towards future meals from their regular menu. Also receive a gift! Tip, enjoy eating patio side even in winter with outdoor heaters. Buon Appetito!
We always enjoy going to Il Fornaio, and we really do enjoy the monthly tasting menu and the opportunity to find out about another area of Italy that we might enjoy seeing in person.
As far as the restaurant itself, we look forward to a comfortable spot with excellent food and great, reliable service. The waiters are always looking out for how they might be able to make our evening a successful one.
The service was high! Everything about this restaurant was amazing! The service was outstanding, the food was beyond amazing! I didn’t know what to order, then the owner came to my table and suggested I try something, I was a little scared at first because I don’t like trying new things, but his suggestions was perfect! This is my favorite restaurant that’s ive been to this year! Definitely coming here again! Great service as soon as I walked in the doors
My favorite restaurant hands down. What i love is that the food is made to order and you can have your food the way you want it. Even if it's not on the menu. Not like these americanized restaurants that pre made the food so you cant change it. I have a special meal and they make it for me every time. I don't mind paying the extra charge. Just glad i can get what i want. Will be back for valentine's day. Thanks again
We both had Cappellacci Di Zucca. The ravioli was very good, however, the sauce left much to be desired. They put sauce in this dish which completely overpowers the butternut squash and the brown butter. I cannot recommend this dish.
The restaurant was very noisy at lunch time. We did not feel welcomed when we asked for a 'less energetic' table. It was as though we were imposing.
Our waiter and wait servers were very nice.
FYI: There is a large construction project going on outside of the restaurant as well. The fuel smell and flying dirt is bad for breathing since you have to walk a ways to get into the restaurant.
Il Fornaio exemplifies true Italian cooking with amazing attention to detail. Our server was gracious and very knowledgeable about both our menu questions and in helping selecting the wine. The food was perfectly prepared. Our dining experience couldn’t have been better!
