About Il Fornaio - Irvine
Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience.

Il Fornaio - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
simply OUTSTANDING in every phase of the word. the meal was cooked perfection and was only outdone by the prompt non-intrusive service. might be the best lightly breaded grilled filet of sole I've ever had in my life. our business client entertainment meal experience will be long remembered by all parties in attendance.
The best part of our experience was the attentive service. Nothing was necessarily wrong with our meal, it was just average Italian for the price. I think this is a good option if you’re looking for a quiet place with great service, but not the best Italian ever.
We regularly dine at Il Fornaio. We enjoy the hospitality that is extended. The monthly Festa Regionale selections are always very good, reflecting the regions of Italy. Marcello is a gracious host and his staff always do their best to make for an enjoyable dining experience.
Our favorite restaurant but on the 31st service seemed to be preoccupied and the cocktail was poor. My wife’s meal was terrific as always but my choice was a bit different...the sole had a spicy sauce that I usually enjoy but the flavor of the sauce was disappointing. The mixed vegetables was disappointing and the potatoes were a bit soggy. I should have chosen the Chappino that I usually chose but was too full.
Don’t worry we still love your restaurant. Perhaps Holloween was a bummer to many employees.
The interior is lovely (rustic-modern) and big, and with high ceilings and the tables generously separated, there's lots of space within which noise can dissipate, so that, even on a fairly crowded Saturday night, table conversation was not difficult. While their regular menu was moderately priced, the daily specials menu, which included a large variety of interesting choices, was rather inexpensive considering the large portion size and quality of preparation. While it may be a chain, our dinner at Il Fornaio was a lovely experience and we are very likely to return.
I used OpenTable to book a table when the restaurant was very busy. We ended up having a wonderful dinner with some great bottles of wine We were seated at the back kitchen table. It was an interesting experience because we got to watch the help running around to all the different events that they had going on, and they were very busy. I would come back to this restaurant again but would prefer to sit in the restaurant then at this out of sight table. Service was above average, but because of where we were seated, it was not exceptional.
Firstly, we were warmly greeted by the hostess. I had requested assistance with photos, as this would be our annual
Christmas photo, and again the hostess was very kind and obliging. The restaurant is very inviting, with glass and light brown wood; it is welcoming. We enjoyed the dinner as usual. Our Son-in-Law loved the tasting menu. The service was, as always impeccable. Most of all, the staff seemed to enjoy their
jobs, with smiles all around. Thank you for making our Birthaversary a memorable combined celebration!
Il Fornaio is always a favorite place. We enjoy finding out about particular Italian regions and their food, hopefully to help us choose an area we would like to visit. We also enjoy finding out about the wines that go with particular Italian foods.
These monthly treasures are also featured in cooking classes on a monthly basis, and it's always a treat to watch Chef Jeff Burt bring these foods to life.
Il Fornaio is just such a welcoming place, with excellent service and friendly faces.
Met old friends we haven't seen for more than 10 years and decided to try Il Fornaio.
We were greeted very friendly with a personal touch, which was very pleasant.
Most of us had fish and the food was very tasty and well presented. Two Antipasti to share for 4 was rather small. Wine list is good, personally I'd like to see a wider selection of Primitivos .We settled for the Amarone which was very nice and smooth.
Overall good experience.
I enjoyed my most recent trip to Il Fornaio. The butternut squash ravioli is so delicious and the small order was plenty of food for lunch. The service is always friendly and they are very conscious of the lunch hour time restrictions without being pushy. I have been to this location 5 times and it is always the same great food and service.
We hadn't been to Il Fornaio in years, but were interested in their "Tour of Italy" menu. We've now been three times in three months and expect to continue that. The Tasting menu is a great value and offers many choices. Our favorites forthe September menu are the Arancini for the first course, Spaghetti with eggplant for the Pasta course and Braised Lamb shank for the 3rd course. But we also liked the Tomato Salad and Barramundi options.
