Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio - Irvine Ratings and Reviews
We always enjoy going to Il Fornaio, and we really do enjoy the monthly tasting menu and the opportunity to find out about another area of Italy that we might enjoy seeing in person.
As far as the restaurant itself, we look forward to a comfortable spot with excellent food and great, reliable service. The waiters are always looking out for how they might be able to make our evening a successful one.
The service was high! Everything about this restaurant was amazing! The service was outstanding, the food was beyond amazing! I didn’t know what to order, then the owner came to my table and suggested I try something, I was a little scared at first because I don’t like trying new things, but his suggestions was perfect! This is my favorite restaurant that’s ive been to this year! Definitely coming here again! Great service as soon as I walked in the doors
My favorite restaurant hands down. What i love is that the food is made to order and you can have your food the way you want it. Even if it's not on the menu. Not like these americanized restaurants that pre made the food so you cant change it. I have a special meal and they make it for me every time. I don't mind paying the extra charge. Just glad i can get what i want. Will be back for valentine's day. Thanks again
We both had Cappellacci Di Zucca. The ravioli was very good, however, the sauce left much to be desired. They put sauce in this dish which completely overpowers the butternut squash and the brown butter. I cannot recommend this dish.
The restaurant was very noisy at lunch time. We did not feel welcomed when we asked for a 'less energetic' table. It was as though we were imposing.
Our waiter and wait servers were very nice.
FYI: There is a large construction project going on outside of the restaurant as well. The fuel smell and flying dirt is bad for breathing since you have to walk a ways to get into the restaurant.
Il Fornaio exemplifies true Italian cooking with amazing attention to detail. Our server was gracious and very knowledgeable about both our menu questions and in helping selecting the wine. The food was perfectly prepared. Our dining experience couldn’t have been better!
We've been coming here the last few years for Thanksgiving. We love it because our family is either vegetarian or vegan (and gluten-free). That's usually difficult for this holiday but luckily they always offer their full menu besides turkey. Everyone is able to get what they want for dinner and the food is always good and beautifully served. The wait staff is always pleasant and does their best to make it a wonderful experience. We of course, want good food but the goal is to be here on vacation with family enjoying the holiday in our own way.
Thank you Il Fornaio for always making that happen for us.
The restaurant is a bit hard to find....tucked away between large office buildings and a whole lot of construction. Thank goodness the place validates because parking is $$$. The food was all delicious but the service was VERY slow. It was Thanksgiving but we were one of the first to be seated.
We sat outside on the heated patio. We shared the Piemonte beef carpaccio with arugula, capers, shaved grana padano...with a squeeze of lemon, heaven! The short ribs, garlic mashed potatoes and spinach were delicious! We also enjoyed a pizza with burrata cheese.
simply OUTSTANDING in every phase of the word. the meal was cooked perfection and was only outdone by the prompt non-intrusive service. might be the best lightly breaded grilled filet of sole I've ever had in my life. our business client entertainment meal experience will be long remembered by all parties in attendance.
The best part of our experience was the attentive service. Nothing was necessarily wrong with our meal, it was just average Italian for the price. I think this is a good option if you’re looking for a quiet place with great service, but not the best Italian ever.
We regularly dine at Il Fornaio. We enjoy the hospitality that is extended. The monthly Festa Regionale selections are always very good, reflecting the regions of Italy. Marcello is a gracious host and his staff always do their best to make for an enjoyable dining experience.
Our favorite restaurant but on the 31st service seemed to be preoccupied and the cocktail was poor. My wife’s meal was terrific as always but my choice was a bit different...the sole had a spicy sauce that I usually enjoy but the flavor of the sauce was disappointing. The mixed vegetables was disappointing and the potatoes were a bit soggy. I should have chosen the Chappino that I usually chose but was too full.
Don’t worry we still love your restaurant. Perhaps Holloween was a bummer to many employees.
The interior is lovely (rustic-modern) and big, and with high ceilings and the tables generously separated, there's lots of space within which noise can dissipate, so that, even on a fairly crowded Saturday night, table conversation was not difficult. While their regular menu was moderately priced, the daily specials menu, which included a large variety of interesting choices, was rather inexpensive considering the large portion size and quality of preparation. While it may be a chain, our dinner at Il Fornaio was a lovely experience and we are very likely to return.
I used OpenTable to book a table when the restaurant was very busy. We ended up having a wonderful dinner with some great bottles of wine We were seated at the back kitchen table. It was an interesting experience because we got to watch the help running around to all the different events that they had going on, and they were very busy. I would come back to this restaurant again but would prefer to sit in the restaurant then at this out of sight table. Service was above average, but because of where we were seated, it was not exceptional.
Firstly, we were warmly greeted by the hostess. I had requested assistance with photos, as this would be our annual
Christmas photo, and again the hostess was very kind and obliging. The restaurant is very inviting, with glass and light brown wood; it is welcoming. We enjoyed the dinner as usual. Our Son-in-Law loved the tasting menu. The service was, as always impeccable. Most of all, the staff seemed to enjoy their
jobs, with smiles all around. Thank you for making our Birthaversary a memorable combined celebration!
Il Fornaio is always a favorite place. We enjoy finding out about particular Italian regions and their food, hopefully to help us choose an area we would like to visit. We also enjoy finding out about the wines that go with particular Italian foods.
These monthly treasures are also featured in cooking classes on a monthly basis, and it's always a treat to watch Chef Jeff Burt bring these foods to life.
Il Fornaio is just such a welcoming place, with excellent service and friendly faces.
