Always a tasty and reliable meal is a very pleasant atmosphere.
I don't know... I think Il Fornaio is maybe getting a little tired. The staff seemed rushed and inattentive, (the waiter was literally looking away at other tables as he took our order, half-listening). He forgot my wine, the wine glass had fingerprints all over it - whose? It felt like one of those restaurants that's been around for a long time, but hasn't really injected anything new, and doesn't really care what things look like anymore. The check came in a folded piece of paper that was greasy with more fingerprints. I don't know...
Just love it. Great service. The food is great and delicious, really nice service and very friendly.
Service last 3 times has been bad. This time waiter corrected our pronunciation (which certainly wasn’t good, but did he have to correct us?), had to request water 3 times, had to flag waiter for a glass of wine, had to flag waiter to remove dinner plates and request desert. Definitely below average service, but we like the food and ambience.
Enjoy, in particular the changing regional cuisines. Pasta dishes always reliable choices. Staff friendly
Il Fornaio is maintaining its tenacious grip on mediocrity. Pleasant ambience holding steady, wines are pretty good if selection is made carefully, service is consistently fine, but food -- the reason you go there -- is, well, mediocre. Will this branch of the venerable chain ever get a Chef Partner to whip back it into decent shape? Like a boat at sea with a slow leak, Il Fornaio Corte Madera is slipping into oblivion, and now lags well behind the four other highly laudable Italian restaurants in southern Marin. Too bad.
Il Fornaio is a very good restaurant in all phases. The food is very good and the service always attentive and capable. Even when the restaurant is crowded they seem to manage the reservations so that the wait is not extensive. The ambiance is pleasing although it is relatively noisy.
The wine list is relatively extensive and moderately priced.
As always, we enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Il Fornaio. Our waiter Martin was wonderful!
We have eaten here often and have never been disappointed. Service is top-notch, menu is varied, good wine selection.
I frequnt Il Fornaio Corte Madera for business lunches. It is always busy, but we are always greeted enthusiastically and do not have to wait very long for our table. I tend to order the salmon and vegetables. They are generally cooked just right. Service is great however, it would be helpful if they bring the check soon after we have finished the meal.
Il Fornaio is one of our local go-to restaurants. We enjoy sitting in the bar area at a table and ordering a pizza and cocktails ,if we're alone. It's also a good place to gather with friends to make a foursome for lunch or dinner. The food never disappoints and the culinary offerings from different Italian regions are something to which one looks forward. In an age of revolving restaurants and constant change ups, Il Fornaio is a beacon of constancy in its food and service!
Generally great food, occasionally a disappointing entree.
Excellent service. Ambiance pleasing. Food left a lot to be desired. I ordered gluten-free pasta with chicken, broccoli, etc. One of my friends ordered the same menu item, but with regular pasta (not gluten free) . My dish was dry and his dish had a nice light tomato juicey type sauce. I found my dish to be tasteless. Also, the chicken in pasta dish was dry. I tried the salmon with vegetables that another friend ordered. The salmon was on the dry side. One of our members ordered the angel hair pasta with tomato sauce. He seemed to like his dish.
Il Fornaio is our restaurant of choice for consistent Italian fare. Sardena was the area featured and we ordered from this menu. Terrific! We had Branzino and Salmon cooked to perfection. We will be back!
Food and atmosphere, great, as always! Service was off - asked waiter to decant a bottle of wine. He brought a dirty carafe, then replaced it when asked, but never poured the wine into it, and never served the wine, either initially or to refill glasses (he never stopped by to ask how things were, etc.). We did it, naturally, but it was odd. He came several times to take our order, but we were busy talking, and while he did the basic requirements, he never engaged with us to ask how our food was, offer much above what was needed. Will definitely go back, in spite of him; this is a GREAT venue and the food is wonderful and the service is usually top notch.
Our waiter’s service was attentive and pleasant. However, I asked for black coffee and was given and charged for cappuccino. When I reviewed the bill, I also noted that he had added and charged for an additional entree. I was able - through the manager - to have the bill adjusted, but a word of warning. You may get the same waiter!
Always a pleasure to dine here. Food and service consistently good.
Sherri took great care of us. The busperson refused to grab a few bread sticks for my daughter as he said it was only for the bar. Sherri promptly grabbed them for us then noticed the skimpy olive oil pour he did and replenished our plates.
The prices are frankly too high for the quality of food. The pasta dishes are swimming in sauce.
Sherri made this an enjoyable experience but for the quality of food and price I’d rather go to Valenti’s.
Food and service are great. The drinks always taste like they were watered down. Bartender could use an upgrade.
We came for Easter brunch. We were seated on the patio, as requested in our OpenTable reservation. The food was thoroughly enjoyable and the service was attentive. We will definitely come back.
Went for Easter brunch with another couple. A few things were forgotten (coffee was never brought and one plate was missing the toast) but understandable given it was a busy Holiday morning. Food was delicious and atmosphere is sophisticated without being pretentious. Always a favorite of ours.
I was a little disappointed in that the ideal reservation time for our party would have been between 10am and 1130am, however the opentable app made it appear that the only open reservation was at 945am or 1230pm. When we arrived at the restaurant it was not only very empty but also somewhat vacant for the next hour of dining while we were there.
Separately, our server was somewhat slow in bringing out our food, which is normally fine, but would have been appreciated given we had a toddler as part of our party. In general, parties with children require more attentiveness.
Il Fornaio is a class act. The food is always excellent and very nicely presented. My favorite Italian restaurant in all of the Bay Area.
Getting together with my family from Canada. You can always count on a great meal and wonderful service. Thank you. Beverley.
I've been coming to Il Fornaio for years and am never disappointed. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and when I asked for all vegetables instead of potatoes I got spinach, which I love. My server, Sherry, knew we had limited time and she was efficient and yet friendly.
Always good
Great food and service.
Bad service day...
We both enjoyed our dinner, food was good. I ordered the mixed seafood grill and the flavors were excellent, but the very very thin piece of salmon was overcooked (not sure how they could not overcook it, considering it was only about ¼" thick). The broccoli was first rate.
Prices are on the high side, and service, while enthusiastic, tended to be a bit frenetic, with longer than normal delays. We were there on a Friday evening, and the place was packed, so that may have something to do with it. Maybe next time we should go on a weeknight.
Met some friends visiting from Montana and had a nice meal here. It was VERY loud and crowded, could do with a few less tables in each section to make the experience better. Food was very good as was the service.
I have been a customer almost from the day Il Fornaio opened.
The only quibble I have is that the restaurant is extremely noisy,
which unfortunately is the case with many restaurants.
This location is the original Il Fornaio. If it were privately owned
there might be fewer tables and not so noisy, but that's just
wishful thinking. In any case , the food is great.
Never disappoints....a favorite spot....great sekection....healthy, delicious.
Always nice to go to Il Fornaio. Asked for and sat near the fireplace on a cold rainy night. Our server was excellent. Very accommodating and friendly. It was a group of gals so can be more work. Food was good, drinks were good and enjoyed the evening.
We enjoy the passport special every month. A great way to get together with friends or family
And maybe win a trip to Italy.
Alberto made the evening. Thank you. Pamela Ashkenazy
We often eat lunch at that location of Il Fornio and are very happy with it. We were very disappointed in our dinner experience, particularly our waiter who seemed like he didn't want to serve us. The food at lunch seems to be better than what we had for dinner. We will return for lunch but it will be along time before we return there for dinner.
Tis always predictably very good and a lively place for a meal off the kitchen counter or for two or more people at tables inside or on the porch. Diners have enjoyed this restaurant now for many years and rarely if ever have I walked out without feeling well fed and pleasantly served.
The food is fresh with many choices. I also appreciate the portion sizes. The presentation also contributed to a lovely meal... the chocolate gelato is exceptional. We had a wonderland waiter who was knowledgeable & had a great sense of humor.
After quite a long time we returned here for an early dinner before the theater, and we were not disappointed! And a good think we had reservations, even for our early 530pm arrival, because they were packed when we got our entrees. Loved it.
Disappointed in the Petto Pollo; the bird was simply not well cooked; perhaps overcooked. The spinach and potatoes were great. The wine - Zinfandel - superb. The service; especially good.
