Il Fornaio - Corte Madera Ratings and Reviews
As usual, it was incredible service from the moment you step into the restaurant. They make you feel at home like you are in italy...the people are wonderful from beginning to saying Ciao when you leave! Love the friendliness..and food was good too!
Thank you for your hospitality! Ciao
Five of us stopped in for salads, some robust Italian red and to share a couple of pizze. Salad and wine did not disappoint. But the superb, erstwhile pizzaiolo, Davide, has moved on to greener pastures, and the pizza was mediocre — thick, doughy crust (like east coast or Chicago interlopers like it), and sparse toppings. Far from la vera pizza italiana. Too bad. We offer incantations for improvement in the weeks and months ahead.
By the way, it seems like W was President when this Il Fornaio last had an executive Chef. How can it improve without skill and leadership on the inside?
Il Fornaio is kind of a funky place. The decor is very nice, the people are mostly cool, and the food is very good. The pizza is excellent and so are many of the dishes. They have a happy hour Monday through Friday which is outstanding. If you want a good meal at a good price, do the happy hour.
We have been to Il Fornaio in Corte Madera several times with another couple who live in Marin County.
The food is always delicious and well prepared. The service is cordial and efficient, and we have never felt either rushed or ignored.
We will continue to dine there because it has always been a pleasant place for us.
Two of the dinners needed to be returned twice and then replaced by fresh plates. Not the servers fault but ruined meal as dinner experienced wasn’t shared. Ironically I had lunch there same day and meal was over cooked and poor service including forgetting to bring espresso that got cold. Just not my day!
I have dined at Il Fornaio for many years and the one thing you can depend on is the food, especially their bread and soups. This time when I found out bread soup was on the menu, I eagerly ordered it, because it is delicious. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring it. So when they served the entrees, I asked about the soup and it was delivered in a few minutes (thankfully very hot and as good as always). That glitch was the start of our waiter's forgetfulness. He didn't come around to ask how our meal was, if we wanted more water (no one ever filled our water glasses), and we had to flag him down to get the check. I have to say, though, this is par for the course with Il Fornaio - the service is almost always appalling. This was for lunch during the week - you can imagine what kind of non-service is provided during a weekend dinner.
Our meal was not as enjoyable as was deserved by the food, due to a waiter who always appeared rushed, brusque, nervous, and didn't serve it in a timely manner. We were two hours at the table--far too long for the simple meal we ordered. The service issue really spoiled it for us. Probably won't go back.
The food and restaurant are always great - a SOLID bet for any dining occasion. But what always stands out is the service! The servers are SO friendly, so helpful, and very attentive. It's one of the better staffs of waiters I've experienced. So, well done!
I ordered the butternut squash pasta. The pasta itself was wonderful, but the sauce was not what I expected. I would have preferred more brown butter and less tomato. The worst part was the crispy sage. The leaves were inexplicably battered, then fried. I've had many versions of this dish (I make it myself sometimes), and the sage is always simply fried as is. This results in a nice, crisp and most importantly, flavorful addition to the dish. In this case, the battered sage leaves had no flavor at all.
Six of us after seeing a play in SF. We were crammed into a small space and had made reservations. Waiter was nice but very rushed. Busboy forgot to bring back our leftover chicken. Food is decent. Sometimes very good; sometimes just okay. Pleasant atmosphere aside from the seating arrangements.
We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and it was clearly a busy night. We had a reservation and were seated in a reasonable amount of time but it took over an hour and 15 minutes to receive our food. That is unacceptably long, especially when you’re with kids. Our server was apologetic but even our water glasses were not refilled. I haven’t been here often and never had a bad experience before. It was pretty disappointing.
Disaster!!! The wait to get our meals was ridiculously long. There was 30 minutes between each course. We ordered a salad and soup, pasta, a meat dish and ice cream for dessert. The pasta dish came out cold. The Veal dish was unevenly cooked. Some was fine some was raw. It took waiter 30 minutes to deliver one scoop of ice cream for dessert. The people sitting behind us left because they waited a long time for their food and it never came.
We had lunch with friends and were given choice of seating. They have vegan minestrone that was very good and a poached salmon panini with arugula salad that easily could be shared. Special pasta with prawns and anything from the Rotissierre is recommended. Service and ice tea, coffee refills were spot on with seasoned waitpersons. Only problem is parking on Weds. due to farmer’s market and nearby gym. We’ve also had nice brunches: try fresh apple juice and ask for seating in patio near fireplace.
