Il Fornaio - Corte Madera Ratings and Reviews
We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and it was clearly a busy night. We had a reservation and were seated in a reasonable amount of time but it took over an hour and 15 minutes to receive our food. That is unacceptably long, especially when you’re with kids. Our server was apologetic but even our water glasses were not refilled. I haven’t been here often and never had a bad experience before. It was pretty disappointing.
Disaster!!! The wait to get our meals was ridiculously long. There was 30 minutes between each course. We ordered a salad and soup, pasta, a meat dish and ice cream for dessert. The pasta dish came out cold. The Veal dish was unevenly cooked. Some was fine some was raw. It took waiter 30 minutes to deliver one scoop of ice cream for dessert. The people sitting behind us left because they waited a long time for their food and it never came.
We had lunch with friends and were given choice of seating. They have vegan minestrone that was very good and a poached salmon panini with arugula salad that easily could be shared. Special pasta with prawns and anything from the Rotissierre is recommended. Service and ice tea, coffee refills were spot on with seasoned waitpersons. Only problem is parking on Weds. due to farmer’s market and nearby gym. We’ve also had nice brunches: try fresh apple juice and ask for seating in patio near fireplace.
Service was EXTREMELY slow. Had a reservation; ended up in a very drafty area in patio seating. moved table once; still bad. I have never had such slow service, and incomplete table setting. Had to request another setting. Was very UNLIKE Il Fornaio. Luckily, we are semi regulars and knew something was off -- at least we hope that was the situation
Thanks so much for making my dad's birthday such a great experience. Sherry our waitress was fantastic as usual but went out of her way to make my dad feel special. Everything we had was spot on fantastic.
I truly appreciate all that you do here. Excellent food and service during every experience. Bravo!!
Despite a fairly empty restaurant for lunch on New Year's Day, our server took about 15 minutes to come to our table. He seemed fairly disinterested, despite the fact that he hadn't worked on NYE. Food was nice, but when the bill arrived, and I put down my credit card as well as a $20 gift card, the bill came back with the full amount, without deducting the $20. Oh,our server said, I didn't see it. Well,I responded,I did give it to you. A few minutes later, he returned to the table, saying the manager would be over, something about a problem with the gift card, which BTW, was a complimentary one valid from 1/1- March. Over comes the manager, who says that since it's a holiday, their corporate offices weren't open to activate the gift card. Not my problem,I responded. He started to give me a little push back, saying I should come back in a day or two. Nope. FINALLY, he said he would see if he could take off part of the food order. Really? I had to fight for him to do his job? No thanks. I am not going there again.
We went for a birthday lunch on a busy day during holiday season. Our waitress seemed pretty new and was very eager to do a good job. My friend and I both ordered the sautéed petrale. It was "decent"-seemed extremely salty. If the restaurant hadn't been so very busy and the waitress so anxious to please, I would have sent it back. I just ate it, leaving some and enjoying my friend's company. It took forever to get our meals (busy, busy day). I must say that this meal at Il Fornaio was the most disappointing I've had for quite some time. But, I know they are usually much better and will be back again, at a less busy time.
I have been to Il Fornaio many times and the service and food are usual excellent. Maybe due to the holidays things were s little off on this visit. It took forever for the waiter to appear and when the food showed up he couldn't remember who ordered what dish. The food had very little flavor. Usually a 4 1/2 star restaurant but today it was a 3 star experience. I do love the ambiance and I will return again and again even though this day was a little off.
From prior occasions, my expectation of this restaurant was high, which was why I made the reservation to get together with good friends here.
We were seated promptly in a comfortable booth for 4, but there were only 2 place settings. We had to ask for the other 2 place settings repeatedly and finally just got up and got them ourselves from another table. No one seemed to notice or care. We were served their delicious bread and dipping sauce, but only enough for 2 people, so we had to ask for another serving when someone finally noticed we wanted something more. Our waitress seemed disturbed that she had to provide these things because I think someone else usually does this. We all decided to order the same thing which I had had there many times, but this time the polenta was tasteless and cold. Three of us ordered a hot brandy and we got brandy with the hot water being served over 5 mins later.
I am not usually so disappointed in service and am grateful and forgiving of restaurant staff given the difficult things that can happen, but this was extraordinarily absent of even mediocre service. Nevertheless, we left a generous tip.
A Sunday night (12/17) but the restaurant was packed like sardines. Had reservations at 7:30 p.m. but were seated 15 minutes late. Not a problem. But the table we were seated at had only napkins on it - nothing else. The salt/pepper were still up on the ledge next to our table. Service assistant gave us the bread plates and silverware from the table next to us. Obviously the hostess was trying to get us seated ASAP but the service assistants were not up to her speed.
Waited about 5 minutes for server, who took our drink order. I requested water at same time. Drinks came quickly - no water. Requested water a second time. Had to request bread. Had to request butter or oil/vinegar. Had to request a little more oil/vinegar. Had to request a water refill. Second drink order also arrived very quickly - kudos to the bartenders.
The food came quickly and was excellent (kudos to excellent cooks). But like most other restaurants these days the server/food runner who delivered our food was not our server. Not a problem. But then he had to ask who had what. Very annoying to me. Not hard to figure out.
I had the mixed seafood grill and my wife had the vodka-tomato pasta with some kind of meat. Could not have been better! For the price, however, a choice of a small house/Caesar salad or cup of soup should be included. And of course the wine is overpriced, especially being so close to Sonoma and Napa. Our total bill was $105 - two entrees and four glasses of wine. No appetizer, no salad or soup and no dessert.
Service was only average. What is needed here is better table management. An 18-21 year old person does not have the maturity to do this. One needs some good excuses/reasons to hold tables, get tables to leave etc. Manage station rotation and seating better and this restaurant would be great. The employees would also be happier. Management needs to take control instead of letting the customer control.
The food was very good, but the service was a little spotty (had to ask twice for more water, coffee). And this restaurant needs to learn how to prepare a Bloody Mary! One of the worst I've ever had: no horseradish, no celery salt, no spice at all, flat and watery.
This is one of our most favorite restaurants. But, for my wife’s meal to be served as she pu it, “luke warm “ is inexcusable.we have both had the dish at several of their restaurants and it is always served steaming hot. My wife never complains, but had I known,I would have sent it back. This tells me that the dish sat for awhile before be served.I had the same dish at the Burlingame restaurants yesterday. Different was night and day.
The food was interesting and well prepared. They had a diverse menu with lots of options. Since the sides, especially the vegetables, are important to me, I was very pleased with the variety and the care with the cooking. The environment was charming and encompassing. The wait staff was solid--not hovering but not neglectful. The ease of location and parking make it a great spot for Marin.
