Il Fornaio - Corte Madera Ratings and Reviews
This is one of our most favorite restaurants. But, for my wife’s meal to be served as she pu it, “luke warm “ is inexcusable.we have both had the dish at several of their restaurants and it is always served steaming hot. My wife never complains, but had I known,I would have sent it back. This tells me that the dish sat for awhile before be served.I had the same dish at the Burlingame restaurants yesterday. Different was night and day.
The food was interesting and well prepared. They had a diverse menu with lots of options. Since the sides, especially the vegetables, are important to me, I was very pleased with the variety and the care with the cooking. The environment was charming and encompassing. The wait staff was solid--not hovering but not neglectful. The ease of location and parking make it a great spot for Marin.
Delicious meal- fresh & great presentation.
It took 30 mins to get our bill, asked twice and also asked another waiter for the 3rd time. Too long of waiting when the place was empty around 3:30 pm. Our lunch reservation was at 1 pm, Long wait for water, bill, etc...
WE MADE A RESERVATION SEVERAL WEEKS IN ADVANCE FOR MID EVENING, SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE THIS RESTAURANT NORMALLY CLOSES. AS SOON AS WE WERE SEATED THE WAITER TOLD US HE WOULD NEED TO TAKE OUR ORDER IMMEDIATELY, SINCE THE KITCHEN WAS CLOSING. MANAGEMENT TRIED TO ASSURE US THAT THEY WERE NOT CLOSING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE BELIEVED THEM. WHEN WE WERE TRYING TO EAT OUR ENTREE, THE KITCHEN CLOSED DOWN AND THE STAFF WAS EATING THEIR MEALS NEXT TO US. WE SUSPECT NOW THAT THE PERSON SERVING US WAS NOT A WAITER, BUT SOME OTHER STAFF PERSON WHO GOT STUCK DEALING WITH US. HE WAS CLEARLY UNTRAINED AND NOT HAPPY THAT WE WERE THERE, WHEN EVERYONE CLEARLY WANTED TO GO HOME.
THE MEAL WAS ACTUALLY VERY GOOD. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THEY HAD BEEN HONEST. WE COULD HAVE ORDERED THE MEAL TO TAKE HOME AND HAD A DRINK AT THE BAR WHILE WAITING FOR IT TO BE PREPARED.
THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR GO TO RESTAURANTS FOR A LONG TIME. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD GOOD FOOD AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICE. THIS TIME MANAGEMENT WAS POOR. OUR RESERVATION SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED AND AN UNTRAINED PERSON SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO SERVE. IT WAS AN UNHAPPY THANKSGIVING.
The service was very slow and inattentive. When the waiter was our table, he was very rushed and pre-occupied. We were there for a special occasion, and we certainly didn't feel special, particularly for the price of the food. The meal was good, once it arrived.
We made a reservation for 4 but when we arrived we were told there would be a short ten minute wait. The lobby quickly filled up as 15-20 minutes went by. My husband moved through the crowd to remind the Receptionist that we were still waiting when we were quickly brought to a small table clearly meant for 3. No silverware and 3 chairs. Took forever to get water and bread. Then when our food arrived the Table was very crowded. Plus the room had a cold draft the entire time. The food and wine were good but we feel that the place was way overbooked.
The food is consistently delicious. Some of us tried the Taste of Piemonte, three-course special and were delighted by the number of choices and creativity which were very tasty. The only complaint is that we were first offered seats right by the entrance to the dining area which meant all arriving guests would be gathering next to our table only staved off by a low barrier. We requested the table next to it which was nestled in a corner but they were clearing it to use as a table for 6 (note: no one was seated in it all evening). It seemed that for punishment that had to wait and be seated in the enclosed patio area and warmed only by high ceiling heaters because they seated another party of 4 in the middle of the restaurant a few minutes after we declined our first table.
We have a meeting there once a quarter and love Umberto. He gives us all separate checks and keeps everything organized, even when he is really busy. We love his competence and warmth and sense of humor. Plus the food is always really good - we have yet to be disappointed.
We've been here so many times over the past 15 years but I never bothered to write a review. Doing it now because Il Fornaio has a cozy atmosphere and good food. First impression: same as always - poor, slow service. Get seated, and then no one stops by for at least 5-10 minutes. When you finally get a waiter, if you hesitate for even 5 seconds he will ask if he can come back. We said NO - just hang on a minute. Not his fault - all the waiters are running like crazy because the place is understaffed. After giving our drink order, still took a good 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Call me silly but I think this is too long to wait on a Monday night when the restaurant is half empty. Dinner was good, service still sketchy. We had to ask for fresh pepper, more water, another drink - the waiters are so rushed they are not proactive and you have to flag them down. All in all, I'd give it a 2.5 out of 5. Marin needs more good restaurants!!!
Thanks to Chef Carlos for another great, super savory vegan meal! We love going here and consider this the best Italian restaurant in the bay area hands down. Thanks always for being flexible when we order something from the menu that's altered to become vegan and gluten-free. I can't tell you how nice that is to never have to worry about that at Il Fornaio Corte Madera.
Our server was great too - Sierra. I think she might have been new but you would never have known that as she was very on top of everything and knew the menu well. Excellent job!
Our food was delicious! I had the risotto special. My friend custom created his dish due to dietary restrictions. The waiter was fabulous! He asked a lot of questions, and was very willing to create the perfect dish. My friend doesn't eat much, usually - but cleaned his plate and then ate most of our shared zabaione! The food here is consistently delicious, and they really care that you have a pleasant dining experience.
Il Fornaio is one of my "go-to" restaurants. The food is always good and the service is always excellent. It is the type of place that you can go for a great lunch or dinner and it is in an excellent location with plenty of parking. I meet a girlfriend there several times a year to get caught up and enjoy a great dinner. I had the Il Fornaio salad and the butternut squash raviolis which are always wonderful. My friend had a late lunch so she had soup and salad and liked both of them. The atmosphere is friendly and easy and they don't rush you which is great. I would highly recommend Il Fornaio to anyone for a great meal and easy atmosphere.
a few weeks ago i gave a very poor rating for the dinnertime service and food. I've been going to this Il Fornaio for almost 30 years - easily at least once a week, since i lived close by. i moved farther north 2 years ago, but like to come back, since it was abut my favorite place. unfortunately - at least at dinners - it has gotten dramatically worse in terms of service and food quality.
i said in that review that i'd go back and visit for lunch to see if it was as bad as dinner. it wasn't - it was still efficient and well run for the most part and the food was good quality and prepared well. the only knock - it took a server 10 minutes to come and see if i wanted anything to drink to start. After the initial drink order, he was very good. the manager during the lunch seemed to have much better control on what was going on - unlike the lady who manages the dinner hours.
so - i'm still good for lunch - but won't be going for dinner.
It was a little loud there but once the crowd died down it was just fine. We ate with another couple and everyone enjoyed their meal. Nice to have sea food and fresh gnocchi.
All in all a very nice meal. Would suggest it for a special and not so special occasion.
I've been going to the Corte Madera Il Fornaio for almost as long as it has been open (28 years) and i'm afraid i just made my last visit unless they get their act together. the food was mediocre - the fish special was dry, no real sauce to it; the chop special was good. other meals I've had recently were of the same mixed bag. that never used to be true. it was a rare exception when the food was this bad.
the service was terrible and the management indifferent to the lousy service. this has been a trend for the last year or more. there is a tension between the manager and the service staff. we arrived for an early dinner this time (we eat there about 1-2 times a month - used to be weekly when we lived in CM) and it took 20 minutes to even place a drink order, despite my asking for a server 3 different times. the staff was pre-occupied with setting up the tables for dinner (we arrived at 5:30) and paid no attention. when i complained to the mgr, she was indifferent, but i did begin to get service. then they couldn't get us out of there fast enough (there were only 2 of us); rushing the food and clearing the table and then not coming to take any dessert or drink order after. when I mentioned this to the mgr again, i was offered a bag of risotto to ease my complaint. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
this location used to be one of the best in class, with professional servers and and bartenders. There are only 2 good bartenders left and maybe 1-2 server's. the rest are slow, pay no attention to customers and seem to spend their time avoiding the lady manager.
they have a BIG problem - especially at dinner hour. Fortunately, i don't have to be part of it any more. i will say, lunch seems to be better managed and i may check it one more time.
Dinner was tasty but restaurant was noisy and hectic. Staff bustled around our table, setting up for a film festival event. Service was not great. Server spilled oil and vinegar on table-cloth, forgot to serve wine, forgot to refill water glasses, and served one seven-dollar cup of soup without the promised padrano crouton. When we pointed out missing crouton, he returned with a plain small piece of bread. I would not return except to dine with a big group.
