Il Fornaio always delivers excellent food and service. We always enjoy eating there. It's our go-to date night dinner place. We especially enjoy trying the Passporto Menus as they change over the year
With Stefano commanding the kitchen and Roberto running the front of the house, Il Fornaio Corte Madera is on its way to reclaiming the luster it had under Chef CJ Snyder. When he left, the restaurant was set adrift for years. So far, quite a turnaround. Welcome back!
The food we had was very good. I had the chicken toscado. Very tender and good tasting. The wine recommended was very good and the wine ordered was reasonably priced but many weren't in my opinion. The service was poor. Never saw the waiter during the time we had the main course. I believe that the waiter probably had to many tables to handle. Another helper came to our table a few times to refill the water glasses and brought more olive oil to the table that we requested. Mood in restaurant was very nice. I felt the prices overall were on the high side. Would I go there again, yes.
I finally feel that I must tell you what has been happening at the restaurant the last few times I have been in!
Sherry is my waitress and she is EXELLENT! There is NO better! She is my only waitress that I prefer and that always takes care of me and she is the BEST! She writes down the special needs and etc.
The kitchen evidently doesn't read it! The food has been coming out cold, comes out with garlic when specified, NO garlic and so on! This awful, my friends do NOT want to come back! This is after 3 tries!
I think your kitchen staff better read what the orders are saying!
Consistently bad service, will not return
Perfect night out! Thank you!
We were there on a Friday evening and we have always enjoyed the restruant. However, I think the quality of food has dropped off a bit. Service was good. We might have dined on an “off night”.
Loved the pork special! Well except for the unexpected “beet garnish” It wasn’t listed and I would have asked it to be left off!!
The service left much to be desired. We made a reservation and when we arrived the hostess took us to the enclosed patio. It was freezing and we asked to seated elsewhere. She told us that there weren’t any tables inside. So we asked to eat at the bar. She was very helpful and told us she would turn the heat on and continued to assist us after we sat in the bar when she found another table inside. The server in the bar was rude and impatient with us so we were happy to move to the table from the bar. We had a few questions about a wine selection and her responses were abrupt and short. We happily moved to a table so we didn’t have her the rest of the meal only to have another waiter who acted like we were doing him a favor by being there. His service was adequate but his personality lacked the standard warmth we have enjoyed in the past. The food was fine but the servers need help if they even want a standard tip.
It was awesome! We had Sherry as our server and she was simply the best.
We haven’t been here in about a year. The menu has changed - much smaller menu and many of the classics (like butternut squash ravioli) are no longer offered. The Beet salad (which I’ve had many times here over the last ten years) is not nearly as good as it used to be. The gnocchi were ‘meh, as was my daughter’s penne and my son’s pizza. The prices are high for the quality of the food. I had a glass of wine, my husband had a beer, 2 small salads, 2 pastas, 1 kids pasta, 1 pizza and the bill was $166 before tip. I doubt we’ll be back as there are other restaurants in the area with better quality at better prices.
We have enjoyed Il Fornaio for years and always had great service and food, including GF options. Our last 2 visits have been dreadful. Friday night, we promptly ordered and after 30 minutes wait, the waiter returned to our table to announce they were out of GF pasta. The Safeway next door was open and we suggested someone run and get more GF pasta. Instead, they tried to “sell” our son on ordering something else. We said if our meals hadn’t been fired, we would be leaving. The waiter said they were ready when they were not. After waiting for the manager and the server to return for another 10 minutes, 2 of our meals arrived. Our poor son had to sit and watch us eat. We bolted down our food and called in a pizza order elsewhere. The time before this, service was slap dash at best. Get it together, please! We want to love you but this isn’t what we expect or enjoy.
Consistently good food and service. Always welcoming
Great food and service!!
consistently good for over 30 years! Never had a bad meal.
Always a reliable go to spot. Never disappoints! Solid in every aspect.
Always good food...wonderful service....lovely to sit in the terrace section
25 years and still going strong. Not quite as consistent as San Francisco, but great
So disappointed that the Puglia risotto was not good. It was mushy, gummy and served tepid temperature. Salads were good. Wine flights were fun
One of us ordered petrale sole. Came with arugala
salad. Was excellent. The other ordered spinach
salad with salmon. The salmon was over cooked
and very dry.
Our server was very good! However, I questioned the double charge for some pasta. My granddaughter ordered plain pasta with cheese and butter. We were charged the same for her pasta as my pasta with sauce etc. I was told there was no other way to charge her pasta. $20 for her meal was excessive.
The next day we went to another Italian restaurant and were not changed for her order of plain pasta. This was also a very quality restaurant. Thank you.
The excellent and attentive service made the experience. I find the food reliably lovely at I’ll Fornaio and enjoyed my capellini al pomodoro. Pizza crust and bread were a bit wanting, but overall a very good dinner.
Sherry is the BEST waitress!!! Service was great, she is so sweet!
Wonderful food and service. The sea bass with figs and spinach was terrific. Our waiter was excellent.
I have been visiting Il Fornaio in Corte Madera for over 10 years., and it has generally been good value. This time my food was not so good- the lasagne tasted as though it had been frozen and heated for the evening. The service was slow, and the bread we ordered didn't come until half way through the main course. When I asked our server she said it wasn't her job to bring it.
Could have been an off night for them, but I think I'll look for other options in the future.
I have been coming here for decades. It is just great. Only one suggestion: the minestrone soup is unexceptional. It was fairly bland, and the peas seemed to be overlooked or canned. The rest our brunch, omelettes, were perfect! We love this place for itts constant innovation..regional Italian menu changing every few weeeks.
Very good meal & service. That’s all we need.
Excellent service, food, and ambiance. Stopped in for a snack, stayed for a nice experience.
Delivers exactly what you expect. The lunch choices and prices are excellent. Service and space as expected. A quality choice for meeting in Marin.
My personal complaint was that the waiter seemed put out when we asked for separate checks.
This was a get together for old and dear friends. We had a delightful time with great food. I had the big eyed fish tartare which was surprisingly delicious. Everyone was happy with their orders. We will be back for sure.
Morgan is a fantastic server!
Very attentive and friendly!
With its new chef, there's noticeable improvement in the quality of the food served. Hopefully the restaurant is climbing out of the hole that management dug for it.
A noticeable regression, however, was the staff's failure to deal with a family with small children who were not under the control of their supposedly adult supervisors. These were loud and obnoxious brats, and the family should have been 86ed. I resent that they soured my experience. Staff should be alert to such disruptive bevavior, and should be trained to deal with and never ignore this problem.
This has been my favorite place to have lunch/dinner for four years. I don't know of any restaurant in the area that has such wonderful service and this is very important to me. The food at Il Fornaio is consistently delicious, no exceptions. If I want to take someone from out of town to dinner, I know the guest will be pleased. The ambiance is lovely and the noise level is low, even when it's crowded.
Great brunch menu and service. Good omelets. Good for large parties. Round tables that can accommodate 8 to 10 people.
The Il Fornaio regional foods menus sometimes have wonderful gems on them. Last night it was a seafood risotto from the Amalfi coast. Risotto rice done perfectly, and then the seafood turned into the risotto so it was suffused with flavor.
Il Fornaio is always a favorite of mine, but I was a little sad that one of us in our party had a birthday and it was mentioned on our reservation, but not a soul at Il Fornaio greeted us with a "Happy Birthday." Now I know not to go to Il Fornaio for birthdays.
Food and service were top notch.
Great as always
Armando is an excellent server
Sloppy service, mediocre food, inattentive management. Too many other places to go that are much better.
