Il Fornaio - Coronado Ratings and Reviews
Dining while watching the lights of San Diego twinkle on the harbor waters is an experience that never grows old. Il Fornaio, Coronado, is the perfect location for a spectacular evening enjoying the wonderful flavors of Italy and enjoying the flush of a wonderful bottle of wine.
I’ve been here many times and while the food was great as usual the service was horrible this time. The waitirvnever came back. He forgot our appetizer. My husband had to suck on ice fur water. He brought our coffee long after we finished desert. He was horrible.
We had dinner outside on the covered heated waterfront porch. The view of San Diego across the water was stunning at sunset. It just happened to be the night of the 40th Annual Christmas Boat parade. Our waiter was very nice and helpful and encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the parade. The food and wine was excellent. The waiter that served us our warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar was a delight. It was apparent that he loved his job and was quite funny. The entire wait staff was professional and very accommodating. Thanks to all at Il Fornaio-Coronado.
We picked the perfect restaurant for a recent friends get-together for a holiday lunch. The décor is rustic Tuscany. The view if panoramic harbor. And the food was authentic Italian: fresh and delicious. Our server (Bridget) was attentive without hovering and knowledgeable about their offerings. Everything my tablemates ordered looked (and was) delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We had late reservations and they waited until we finished our 3rd bottle of wine. We were there 1 hour past closing and they never rushed us! This is my favorite restaurant on the island! We already booked our New Years dinner there, just can't say enough about the place. Each of our dinners were cooked to perfection. We bring our own wine since we are wine bloggers and are always reviewing new reds.
We arrived and wanted a table with a view but, unfortunately the hostess indicated that it was going to be a 25 min. wait so we decide to go ahead and sit down at a booth in the middle of the restaurant. 5-10 min later several tables leave (tables with best view of San Diego). We did not move since we had already ordered cocktails. Overall we really enjoyed our meals. Four people in our group. We ordered a pizza, seafood linguini (amazing), spaghetti and meatballs, and pappardelle. We were all very satisfied with our meal. Definitely would recommend and go back.
My family and I spent our Thanksgiving here. It was a wonderful experience and definitely was a great alternative to our traditional Thanksgiving meal. We visit Coronado every year and we will make a point to make at least one of our meals at Il Fornaio. Thank you!
We dined for our family Thanksgiving Dinner, and not really knowing what to expect, we were blown away! The "Traditional" Turkey dinner was served as a fixed-menu, 4 course meal. Everything was superb. The butternut squash soup was a pleasant and delicious start, followed by a lovely salad. The turkey with all the stuffing, vegetables, cranberries was all white breast meat that was so moist, tender and flavorful. It was even served "family style" which was a fun twist, and made us feel right at home. Plus, our excellent waiter never missed a beat - he was very personable and attentive, and made our holiday meal very special. Thank you Il Fornaio for making our Thanksgiving dinner very special.
We spent a couple of nights at the Glorietta Bay Inn on the Island. We wanted to have at least one terrific family dining experience while there. The food was not good, except for the vodka pasta, which was simply flavorful. We made a reservation 3 hours in advance, and the waiter was amazing and so kind to us throughout the meal...brought us lots of warm bread, but after that, downhill. In all honesty, we really wanted to like the food. It is way overpriced. I brought my family here because I saw the prices online and read mixed reviews so I took a chance because I saw the view was supposed to be spectacular - the view is very cool. But the prices on the menu were significantly different than the online menu that I found, even for the vodka pasta! We paid $230 for 5 of us for some pasta and one drink each. We paid $80 less at Miguel's for Mexican and had a far better experience. We are from Chicago and we eat a lot of awesome Italian and Mexican food around here, and this experiences was way below what we expected. It was our only regretful dining experience on our 6 day vacation to San Diego . Should've gone to one of the other two Italian restaurants on the Island, or even Little Italy. Take an uber or taxi to see the view.
Il Foranio consistently provides a very nice dining experience. It goes without saying, the view of downtown San Diego across the bay is very nice. The menu and choices are broad enough to allow for most anyone to find something that they would like to order/eat. The quality and taste of the food is very consistently good.
Treated friends we hadn't seen for 15 years to a delicious dinner. Requested online a table by the window and got a beautiful view of the city of San Diego. Had a leisurely dinner and a great time catching up after so many years and no one at the restaurant rushed us. Love this place--we celebrate many special occassions there!
