Il Fornaio - Coronado Ratings and Reviews
Treated friends we hadn't seen for 15 years to a delicious dinner. Requested online a table by the window and got a beautiful view of the city of San Diego. Had a leisurely dinner and a great time catching up after so many years and no one at the restaurant rushed us. Love this place--we celebrate many special occassions there!
Went here with two friends to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious! Great service. We sat on the patio and it would have been nice to have the plastic covering partially up so we had a view of the skyline of San Diego. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the evening and our choices of food.
Politely greeted moment’s after arriving, we were seated quickly at a table with breathtaking views of downtown San Diego. Service was exceptional as was the food. The specials were flavorful and of good portions. The ambiance is unrivaled and is a true taste of Italy. We look forward to a return sometime very soon and would recommend this to any and all!
This restaurant came highly recommended by a coworker and as I am new to the area, I decided to give it a try.
From the pleasant young lady from New Hope, PA, who greeted me at the front desk, to the server and support staff, Who kept the various dishes and drinks arriving in a timely fashion, I was thrilled with all.
The Italian wine recommended by the server was perfectly balanced, and each part of the three-course meal was simply delicious!
Add to this the view of the San Diego city skyline across the bay, which I could see from my window seat, and I could not have asked for a more spectacular dining experience.
I took my boyfriend out for a birthday lunch at noon. The service was great. When I told the waiter it was his birthday, he was more than happy to serve him a birthday dessert. The dessert was super small, but non the less very sweet. The view of the water was gorgeous & will definitely earn my return.
It took us over 2 hours to eat lunch. The waiter had too many tables. Our water glasses were never refilled it took 15 minutes to order dessert than another 20 minutes to receive it. We seemed to be abandoned by the staff throughout the meal. It seemed to be another example of a restaurant being more concerned about labor cost then the comfort of the guest. I was embarrassing as I had chosen the location. Our server was nice and competent but he seemed to be the only server who was working at the time which made our lunch more of a waiting game.
We had a lovely dinner on Sunday night. The weather was sunny and warm, so we sat outside overlooking downtown San Diego. The view was amazing and the food was delicious! We started with the minestrone di verdure and insalata del fornaio and split a margarita pizza and a bottle of wine. The service was excellent! All-in-all, a great evening! We'll definitely be back when we visit Coronado again.
Everything overall is great. On my reservation, I requested patio dining and on their email confirmation they said everything is okay but when we arrived, the person on desk said that patio seating is not guaranteed. They should have mentioned this on the email that my request was not guaranteed to avoid expectation and disappointment. We got seated in the patio but we waited for awhile.
Overall the food and service were excellent. I would have rated 5 stars however, the table which we were seated, inside next to the patio, had no air circulation and was quite warm. When we got up from the table, after dinner, we took four steps towards the door and immediately felt cool, circulating air. After the sun went down, it did get rather dark in the dining area. Highly recommend Il Fornaio whenever in the San Diego area for an excellent dinner out.
Service was lacking. Made this reservation for my teenage son and his date. They both felt the staff really didn’t want them there. Ask them for their order as they were handed the menus (they were so flustered they didn’t order the appetizers they wanted just went for the dinner) and then asked them if they needed boxes while they were still eating. These are 2 polite kids and, while I realize they weren’t going to spend tons of money, they should have been treated better. Too bad, we used to go here a lot but will be taking our business elsewhere.
Friendly greeting and wonderful service throughout the meal. The server was helpful in explaining some of the menu items. The seafood linguine had a slight kick to it but not too spicy. The duck In the ravioli was over-powered by the sauce. The ambience was perfect at sunset. Enjoyed a leisurely meal. Like to come for special occasions.
