About Il Fornaio - Coronado
Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Il Fornaio means "the Baker" in Italian. This award-winning restaurant offers an authentic and unique Italian dining experience. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; house made pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and house made soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch.

Il Fornaio - Coronado Ratings and Reviews
I didn't discover until we got home that they charged us something called "Open Food." Apparently this is a totally unnecessary surcharge and an underhanded way to jack up the bill. We'll go back to this restaurant for the food, but they won't be adding any extra charges to our bill. I resent the charge and the fact I had to pay taxes on it and consider it in figuring out our tip.
Went there with my wife for our anniversary. This was a place with great atmosphere and great service but the food selection is limited and the food was not good at all. Also who ever heard of an Italian place that does not have Lasagna on the menu. Our anniversary dinner was nothing to talk about due to the food. Everything else was wonderful. Will not return.
We come here every year for Valentine's Day and one of the waiters has recognized us for three years. He was our waiter when I was pregnant and with my Son's first valentine's day and then he was there and said hello this Valentine's Day. Service was impeccable. The food was delicious. There is literally nothing bad to say about this experience.
It had been awhile since we visited but enjoyed our meal and the beautiful view of the bay; only complaint would be the special chicken dish was dry and lacked flavor. However, the raviolis were yummy and the seafood pasta dish was delicious. Wine selection was good and thoroughly enjoyed the Primitivo. Will return soon.
Been here a few times but last night was exceptional. Made reservations which they honored my request, better than expected. Got to sit outside on the patio with a party of 6. Lovely lighting, roaring fire, and with a view..how awesome is that. Service was excellent! Food delish-iouso. Ordered off regular and Umbria menu. Couldn't be more happier..stayed 2 hours, festive, relaxed, and a nice time. Love this place!!!
Mentioned BD no cake not even a little scoop
Of ice-cream Only happy birthday.
Quiet disappointed for this type of establishment
Service was so so. Never the same waiter bringing food and trolly to serve food. Really not classy
And this is quiet pricy so would expect a more refinement
But nice place otherwise
We have eaten at other Il Fornaio locations but this one offers the best view. That is why, when ever we visit Coronado, this location is a must. The staff and the food never disappoints. Our server, Riccardo, was very attentive to our needs. I highly recommend dinning here.
Our entire family was together celebrating a return from deployment and two birthdays. The birthdays received pieces of chocolate cake with a candle. We were in a wonderful room at the back of the restaurant, fairly secluded so our group of 8 could easily visit together (and I'm sure placed there by the management since they were unsure how our 8-year-old would act--he was perfect!) Although we live half way across the country, we include a visit to Il Fornaio at least once each visit. The night views across to the lights of San Diego are beautiful. During lunch watching the ships transit the harbor is fascinating. Food and service are always excellent. The seasonal specials are wonderful when available.
We frequent Il Fornaio multiple times yearly and always have our office holiday party here. Whenever guests are in town we take them here. Such was our occasion last Sunday and we had very sporadic service, one of ur seven people party was no served her appetizer or her pasta dish, they only brought the main dish and forgot the rest. Water glasses were no refilled and we had to continually ask for service. Not what we are used to here and certainly not in tune with the prices charged here. Our server was very friendly when she did arrive and joked around with us but the service was faulty. We got promises for “next time you come” but no discount for poor service .
We were celebrating out of town family visit; location is great and view is amazing. Waiter service was very slow but maybe overextended? They ran out of San Diego restaurant Week Featured dessert and didn't tell us ordered dessert delay for quite a while. So not as great as usual.
Part of a 50th Anniversary weekend starvation, we decided to try Il Fornaio. It was a delightful experience. The meal was delicious, the staff was friendly and very attentive and the view was beautiful. Their in house baked bread was fabulous. I could have been happy just eating the bread (dipped in Olive oil and Balsalmic Vinegar, of course 😁). Will come here again. Glad we finally discovered it.
