Wonderful restaurant in all respects. Warm feeling and comfortable seating. Very attentive service.
This is a very good option for Italian in Carmel by the sea. The carpaccio was very good and the steak was decent.
Food not exceptional at all. Environment great.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. They sat us 30 mins after our reservation time. Then, it took over 30 minutes to order. Staff was nice, but that’s entirely too long of a wait with a reservation.
Angel hair pasta sauce was too acidic for my taste but everything else tasted good!
Everything was perfect from the beginning to end. The food was authentic Italian, just the right amount, and the service impeccable. Pedro was a true professional.
Always a good dining experience
Good, really good, but certain dishes cost quite a lot and they're special, you can perceive the care, the work and the tough; others costs the same and they're good, but they lack personality, mind you on a restaurant like this you never go wrong, and I have a really high standard, so on a overall is a really good review, but is not the most amazing restaurant I ever visited
Il Fornaio provided fast and delicious food. We were a little surprised by how quickly our food came out, but it was incredibly delicious and freshly prepared. We would certainly return. The fresh bread in the beginning was also delicious. We were too full for dessert, but we may have to try that on our return.
Eight of us met for a late lunch prior to our annual weekend Retreat at Asilomar. Our go-to restaurant has always been Casanova’s but since they no longer serve weekday lunch, we chose Il Fornaio as our restaurant option.
We were seated in the large inner area of the restaurant. I don’t believe there were any other diners in this area besides us. We wondered why we hadn’t been seated more in the front area of the restaurant but as we were all coming into Carmel from different locations and just happy to see one another, we didn’t initially give the table location much thought. It was ok but would've ultimately been fun to have been seated at a table in a brighter area of the restaurant .
Several of us had the chicken sandwich, which was very good ..and very large! Overall, I believe everyone was satisfied with their dishes. The chocolate Gelato dessert was rich and delicious.
Our server was very pleasant and attentive. He honored our request for separate checks (I asked about this possibility when making the reservation) and we each made certain to thank him with an appropriate tip.
Ambiance, cuisine, service all very good, just not memorable. Not sure if we will rush back. It is a venue populated by tourists, which is just fine, yet the locals likely know that better dining experiences are just around the corner.
Enjoyable evening. Friendly staff. Great food. Great wine. We come here at least once every time we visit the Carmel area.
Excellent as always, exemplary service, never disappointed in the 20+ years we've been dining there.
Dinner for eight golfers from DC.
My husband and I went there for our anniversary and had a very nice time. Nothing was mentioned of our anniversary however during our visit by the staff. Kind of odd when Open Table requests the reason for your visit. We ordered the Carpaccio. It was OK. It tasted too lemony and needed some other flavoring. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese. My husband had some sort of Spicy chicken. The portions were large and we came home with enough for another meal the next day. Both entrees were delicious. The service was excellent by all the staff. I would recommend this restaurant.
Excellent. Food was delicious. Selection outstanding. Service tremendous and very accommodating. Lovely Ambiance. A must when in Carmel!
Food very good, staff very efficient, and very personable.
Ramone made the service exceptional! The food was unbelievably good for the price in the area! It was our last night in Carmel. If we would have eaten here earlier, we would have eaten there 2-3 times! Very good food with great service and atmosphere!
My husband and I decided to celebrate our 60th anniversary in Carmel where we had spent our honeymoon. Dinner at Il Fornaio was the perfect start to the weekend. Every thing was delicious! Do not miss the flatbread with tomatoes, goat cheese and kalamata olives. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!! And the service was perfect, too.
They were able to take our large group on a busy night. They allowed us to store our cake in the fridge and brought it with a candle and extra plates without extra charge. Family and kid friendly. We’ve gone before and will go again.
Nice atmosphere and service, but extremely disappointing food. Super bland and underwhelming, especially for the price. Chicken was obviously reheated and dry.
A lovely dinner with stellar service,we’ll be back !
Great location and good food. Typical Carmel flair for locals and tourists. But staff clearly had no drive to provide good service: we observed staff arguing with each other, ignoring customer needs, bad mood, very uncoordinated and unorganized. Would have loved to come back, but not with the current service level.
Loved the pizza here. Had a great family meal. Fantastic wine list.
Please get a manager that can instill some sense of pride in the staff. Gives the chain a bad name. So disappointing compared to years past. Has it gotten too easy to make money in Carmel?
Server didn’t offer dessert menu. Soup was awful. Salad was over dressed.
We were celebrating a birthday. Waited long periods to order and be served and for the first half hour, we were the only ones there.
The assistant server never brought us coffee. Kept asking.
Very bad - rude - service. Big surprise. Sharing FYI
Have been coming for well over 10 years. We have never been disappointed. Food is always good, love their festive specials. Staff is the best, always attentive without being in the way.
The hostess this day was extremely helpful and very lovely to deal with. It was a special occasion and she handled everything very nicely - even taking our memory photos for the day.
The food was really tasty and presented very well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Carlos looked after us very well, and handled my husband's allergy confidently and smoothly. The way he handled a complaint at the next table was even more impressive. Too quietly done for us to hear details, but at once he had the couple smiling and happy. He returned with the manager, who appeared to cheer them up even more.
The menu was varied and seasonal, and vegetarians are well catered for. All our choices were delicious, but sadly we had no room for desert. Next time!
Great Happy Hour
Great Service always and excellent food anytime.
We always enjoy it.
Delicious food and great and friendly services. Love it!!
The ambiance/atmosphere is great, the food was poor .
We came here for Mother's Day lunch. We ordered 6 entrees, and 4 of the 6 were not good.
My sister even sent her pasta back, and re-ordered the spaghetti (which was not good either.)
The ravioli was not good, and looked like there was salsa on top.
It seems like the menu needs to be re-vamped, and the food quality needs to be better.
Mother’s Day brunch so it was unusually busy.
It was nice, but there is no parking and for a special occasion they remove popular choices from the menu that they deem 'take too long to prepare.' We were not provided the normal weekend brunch menu. We were there for Mother's Day brunch and they had a few nice specials for adults, but nothing appropriate for a kid at brunch time. We requested pancakes and after some complaint, the manager/chef said ok and provided some delicious pancakes for the kids. Service wasn't great.
A lovely place with delicious food !
Pastas are homemade and fresh, it makes all the difference.
Sicily is currently being featured. We've been regularly attending these regional and this was probably the very best meal we've had. The delicious eggplant appetizer left you wanting more--much more. My wife raved about her beet salad. My seafood risotto was terrific and my wife loved her seafood spaghetti ensemble. A very good Nero D'avola went well with everything.
Have been coming to I’ll Fornaio for 20 years and have always loved everything about it. But, unfortunately this past week I did not like the food, actually I took a bite and didn’t eat any more. It was the smoked chicken and it was awful. Then, my friend had the sea bass with rabe and and the rubber band was still on the stem of the vegetables
And she accidentally bit into it.
Our waiter, who was very gracious didn’t charge us for either meal but by then it had ruined our
I have always enjoyed Il Fornaio and usually very happy with the food. This time my meal was less than fair. I ordered a salad and an appetizer. The salad was decent but I was really surprised how tasteless the meatballs and polenta were. The meatballs were overdone and actually crispy and the tomato sauce was no better than Chef Boyardee. It had no taste whatsoever. My other guests did enjoy their meals so I was glad about that.
The service was excellent. I will come again but I won't be ordering the meatball appetizers for sure.
Special place for me and my wife. We dined here when we were dating 8 years ago and we really enjoyed the whole experience from wine to dessert❤️
