Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

Sadly this was not a very good Italian food experience. We ordered the Roman Artichokes and the Pesto Suppli as appetizers - they were good and the reason why I didn't give this restaurant 1 star for food. Not so for our main dishes. The Roman Pizza was anything but - just some bread with tomato sauce and sprinkled cheese. This is Chicago - and you make a pizza that is not really pizza and charge pizza prices for it? The Spaghetti Vongolo was so salty that it is 3 hours later and my tongue still burns. I thought about sending it back but I decided that it would come back the same. The service was very good. The noise level was very high. I would pass if you like Italian food.

First time to dine here to celebrate my birthday. Picked this place because I found out they have the fried artichoke which I always get when in Rome. So I was really looking forward to this dish . Carciofo: they give you 2. Small portion for the price. It was not crispy, when it came to our table and taste greasy like the oil was not hot enough before it was deep fried. No crunch. Just leaves you with oily finger Capprisiosa: the bread was good on the pizza but underwhelming in taste. We had better pizza at Rosattis Agnolotti Peas: this dish save the day. And to think I never like peas. It was delish. You get 5 nuggets. This serves for 1 person. Overall: it was subpar for me. The service was fast. Water is warm (why?- it was 94 degrees outside). Ambiance was modern, clean. Maitre d girls were friendly

One of the best meals of my life. Definitely try the fried artichoke and some fresh pasta!

My wife and I had a lovely experience here. Valet was super easy. We had a reservation and arrived early, but had no issue being seated. The wait staff was super knowledgeable and had create recommendations. The wine list is super authentic for Italian wines. The food was fantastic. Almost wish the portions were smaller because I wanted to try so many different things. Great restaurant, highly recommend. Go now!

I had high hopes for Pasta that recalled my trips to Rome. My carbonara was too salty to eat. Pizza was good. Lots of noise
