About Il Capriccio
Il Capriccio serves a constantly changing Northern Italian menu featuring local products with an award winning Italian wine and Grappa list. Though long considered a local secret, Il Capriccio has been the number one Northern Italian restaurant in Zagat's for the past seven years. The wine list has been featured in Decanter, Sante, Wine & Spirits and Stuff. The same menu is served in the Bar. We like to serve great food and great wine in a comfortable setting.

Il Capriccio Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to Il Capprichio once a month for over 35 years. I eat out an enormous amount both on personal and business occasions. It is astonishing to me that Il Capprichio continues to be an on-going delight. The food is fabulous (I loved the stuffed quail with sweetbreads this last week); the wine list is wonderful; the wait staff is so warm and friendly. I can’t imagine a better eating experience and how the restaurant continues to excel year in and year out is remarkable. I love every aspect of Il Capprichio.
In town for the holidays, we stopped here after a movie for our date night. Must give credit to the wonderful hostess and attentive server who moved us to another room after our first table was next to a loudmouth. I do wish people would moderate their voices so that everyone in the room doesn't have to hear their riveting stories. My mussels and quail were excellent; my wife had soup and scallops, which she enjoyed. Breads, desserts, and wine were all good. Nice experience.
Our first time at Il Capriccio. It was well worth the drive. Food was excellent. The wait staff is experienced, attentive and professional. Portions are not huge. We split several dishes, but next time we will order our own dishes.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Everything about our visit was excellent. This was our first visit. The restaurant was easy to find, and had off-street parking. The restaurant was gracious, but quiet inside. We were promptly greeted and seated. The menu was diverse and interesting. Salads were tasty and unique. Hot food was served piping hot. Portions were just right. We loved the variety and options. Not a morsel was left on anyone's plate. Service was excellent. We left satisfied that we had a good meal - but not stuffed. We loved it, and will likely go back. We felt we made an excellent choice.
Superb. Best meal we've had all year. All our dishes were exquisitely concepted and cooked. The flavors of the food and wine was the closest thing in Boston to dining in Tuscany. Our main dishes were beautifully made with 4 to 5 vegetables around the scallops and the duck itself, everything tasted wonderful. The wine list is amazing and the somelier remembered what wines we have ordered in the past. Our server was extremely knowledgable about menu details, helpful and friendly without being obsequious and just the right amount of checking in with us. This is one of the few restaurants we know of where you can actually hear the other person talk, and the atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated without being the least bit snobby. The food quality is really above "restaurant" food - it's more like what you'd expect going to a chef's home for a private dinner. I don't think you'll find a better Northern Italian restaurant in Boston and Il Capriccio remains our gold standard for excellent cuisine and dining experience.
For an upscale place, I was surprised (and put off) by the lack of greeting upon arrival. No "hello" or welcome, even when someone took our coats.
However, the food was excellent. I ordered the veal followed by the lemon mousse dessert; both were superb. I didn't realize that they'd give us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was also delicious.
Boston prices in Waltham.
Been here many times over the years and it is consistently excellent. Chicken dish which is a staple on the menu is my favorite. Salads also very good. Love the lemon mousse for dessert. Service is very good. Tables are fairly close together which is a mild negative. Enjoy coming here for special occasions, such as Valentine's day.
I am a very picky person at restaurants and I went to IL expecting nice food - but that's about it... Instead, I was blown away by the serving staff, how they "wow the customer," the spectacular food options, and more. Seriously - IL has ruined making pasta at home for me... The food was divine.
Special note goes to our server - he's a superstar. Unfortunately, I do not remember his name but I am certain IL will know who I mean when I say "The VERY French one." Tip of my hat to you, sir.
If you don't get a cheese plate to end your meal, I don't know what is wrong with you.
