About Il Capriccio
Il Capriccio serves a constantly changing Northern Italian menu featuring local products with an award winning Italian wine and Grappa list. Though long considered a local secret, Il Capriccio has been the number one Northern Italian restaurant in Zagat's for the past seven years. The wine list has been featured in Decanter, Sante, Wine & Spirits and Stuff. The same menu is served in the Bar. We like to serve great food and great wine in a comfortable setting.

Il Capriccio Ratings and Reviews
We were in the restaurant mid-week, so it was pleasantly busy. We could converse. The service was extremely accomodation and timely. We felt we were dining, which the decor, music, food, and service all contributed to. The menu was lively and the food well-prepared and beautifully presented. Very nice experience.
Among the highest rated restaurants in our area, and for good reason. Always with high-quality ingredients and superb craftsmanship . We have been going to this restaurant for years and have never found a falloff in quality. If I were to express one small qualm, it would be in a certain stiffness to the layout more than made up for by an excellent waitstaff.
We were celebrating 2 birthdays. There were four of us. Two ordered fish and two ordered veal. All the dishes were superb. For appetizers we ordered muscles, calamari, and tuna. All three were prepared very well with the sauces on the muscles and calamari were excellent. One thing I did note was that it seemed to me that the size of the portions were a little smaller than the last time we ate there, but all in all, a wonderful experience. Well worth the cost.
Always spot-on food and service. Our most recent visit was no exception. Go with an Il Capriccio classic like chicken "schnitzel" or mix things up with one of many constantly changing daily specials like sweetbread-stuffed roasted quail. Wash it all down with a Brunello di Montalcino or a Barolo from the carefully-curated and extensive wine list. Not sure what to order --- Jan and Jason are there to help.
So good. My co-worker recommended this place and she did not steer me wrong. My husband and I had a rare chance to have a date night so I suggested this place. I had the scallop dish which was delicious and he had the veal which he enjoyed very much. My husband does not get excited about food very often. Mostly he views food as something necessary to keep himself a live, which is probably why he's so skinny. Anyway, when he really enjoys something, it must be very good. We especially enjoyed the lemon mousse dessert. True this place is expensive, but compared to a lot of other places I've been to that are around the same price, this is a way better value.
The food was great but the service was very, very bad. Our water had a lot of tables and provided extremely poor service to our table. We didn't get our wine and when we gave our credit card, the hostess delivered the check with our credit card to another table.
Awful service, the waiter and hostess didn't work together a team.
Everything was delicious, presented beautifully and in a not rushed but timely fashion.
A minor disappointment was dessert - we shared a mediocre apple croustade which had a weak crust and flavor lacking caramel sauce. Not a total failure but not as good as we thought it would be given how great the rest of the meal was.
Arguably this is one of the best restaurants in Greater Boston. The menu is exquisite, time after time. The food arrives steaming hot by a competent and charming waitperson. The noise level is tolerable, as is the parking. For us, the drive is short, allowing us to avoid in-town traffic and parking lot prices.
I would make different selections for food. next time. I found the mushroom "souffle" heavy and greasy. In the future I will only order a small plate for an entre. I had the lamb chops, and that selection was also too heavy on the oil (or perhaps cheese) that was cooked with the vegetables. I will probably NOT return any time soon.
We were a party of six, ranging in age from 14 to 81; everybody was happy with their selection. Every dish, from chicken livers to risotto, from their signature mushroom souffle to the bread was prepared well, with no room for criticism. Service was impeccable, with gracious accommodation to requests for splitting dishes between two diners. The wine list is very large, and we got an excellent recommendation when we asked for a "Barbera on the light, dry side."
They are evidently a success, the restaurant was packed, with the tables fairly close to one another.
