About Il Capriccio
Il Capriccio serves a constantly changing Northern Italian menu featuring local products with an award winning Italian wine and Grappa list. Though long considered a local secret, Il Capriccio has been the number one Northern Italian restaurant in Zagat's for the past seven years. The wine list has been featured in Decanter, Sante, Wine & Spirits and Stuff. The same menu is served in the Bar. We like to serve great food and great wine in a comfortable setting.

Il Capriccio Ratings and Reviews
Arguably this is one of the best restaurants in Greater Boston. The menu is exquisite, time after time. The food arrives steaming hot by a competent and charming waitperson. The noise level is tolerable, as is the parking. For us, the drive is short, allowing us to avoid in-town traffic and parking lot prices.
I would make different selections for food. next time. I found the mushroom "souffle" heavy and greasy. In the future I will only order a small plate for an entre. I had the lamb chops, and that selection was also too heavy on the oil (or perhaps cheese) that was cooked with the vegetables. I will probably NOT return any time soon.
The service was horrible. Our waiter served almost whole dining room and obviously didn’t have enough time and effort for everyone. People were waiting hours to be served a drink. After complaining about long wait the server stopped coming to our table at all. Didn’t ask about our entrees or if we would like any drink. The place was packed and you could hardly move your chair. Not coming back.
We were a party of six, ranging in age from 14 to 81; everybody was happy with their selection. Every dish, from chicken livers to risotto, from their signature mushroom souffle to the bread was prepared well, with no room for criticism. Service was impeccable, with gracious accommodation to requests for splitting dishes between two diners. The wine list is very large, and we got an excellent recommendation when we asked for a "Barbera on the light, dry side."
They are evidently a success, the restaurant was packed, with the tables fairly close to one another.
Ill Capriccio is the best restaurant in the city of Boston. It is elegant without being pretentious. the menu is varied, and always delicious. The waitstaff is knowledgeable, very well trained. The wines are interesting and fairly priced. I have never had a bad meal there. This season the lasagna with wild mushrooms, spinach and onions made with homemade pasta and available in a smaller portion is irresistible.
Excellent dinner and excellent service. Very accommodating. Has been consistently good for many years. Interesting menu. We forgot our 'take home" and we're so surprised that they called me to see if we were close enough to come back to get it. That is exceptional service.
Il Capriccio is our one and only favorite for any occasion, even an old married couple's "date night". The menu is always seasonal and inovative while still maintaining some of the old special standbys. The recent special antipasta of white bean and shrimp made us want to order a second round but there was too much else to look forward to. The carbonara made us long for the family table in Italy and the rabbit special left us with fond memories of Mama. We finally had to resort to taking home half the meals so we could make room for the pistachio profiteroles. The wine list is deep and well priced. Now for the front and back of house staff...thankyou for everything you do. You are all the total package.
I ordered the gnocchi. My son ordered the veal dish and my husband the lamb chops. The gnocchi were homemade and tasted wonderful. My son and husband commented on the flavor filled reduction sauces used in each of their meat dishes. I would highly recommend this restaurant
Had dinner here for my birthday. Stuffed zucchini flowers were excellent. Scallops were exceptional . The rabbit special was delicious. Had a nice bottle of Ferrari rose. Our server Linda was great. Her recommended Pinot noir was very nice. Chocolate budino dessert was decadent. Consistently great.
It has a very good and creative menu. The food is well prepared, but tends to be rich, and the portions are quite substantial. There is an extensive, quality wine list with selections in most price ranges, tending toward the higher end. We have been there numerous times and recommend it highly. It is expensive, but well worth the price.
Had a spontaneous dinner here last Friday.
The service was top notch, so was the food.
We shared a charcuterie board (sooo good), and escargot app (was on the special menu)
I had veal - extremely tender, even the steam broccoli was delicious.
My husband had lobster risotto, which was good but not as great as other dishes.
Coffee was good, so was the cherry tart.
NOTE TO OPEN TABLE - your menu for this restaurant is outdated! They no longer have some of the dishes that you list (which of course were the ones that we wanted to try ... )
My husband and I came here for our 1 year wedding anniversary. When reserving our table I mentioned that in the comments section and the hostess sprinkled red heart confetti on our table and offered us each a complimentary glass of champagne. The staff and service were all superb and the food was delicious. I'm so glad we decided to come here and can't wait to bring our family here for other special occasions in the future.
Excellent service, amazing food and an intimate setting. I particularly appreciated the two different sizes of pasta so that I could order a smaller portion and still have the anti pasta. I also liked that they had detailed explanations of the wine recommendations from the staff. We had a lovely evening and will definitely return.
