About Il Canale
Located in the heart of Georgetown, il Canale offers the most authentic Neapolitan pizza in DC, thin-crust made by our Italian pizzaiolos cooked in a wood-fired oven imported from Italy. The kitchen offers a menu that brings our native country to your table with every selection—antipasti, pastas, seafood, meat, fresh bufala mozzarella from Italy, and much more. The attractive blue-lit, full bar specializes in select Italian wines. In warm weather, dine alfresco at the sidewalk tables or on the roof-top terrazza overlooking the Georgetown scene.
Be sure to check out our lunch menu, featuring delicious paninis made with our fresh bread baked instantly in our wood fire brick oven and four new pasta items. Our happy hour, from 4-7 pm Monday-Friday, features all drinks at 1/2 price! (Happy Hour restricted to bar area).

Il Canale Ratings and Reviews
The flat iron steak was exquisite. Perfectly cooked and just the right amount. Lobster ravioli was flavorful but in my opinion the ravioli skin was just a tad hard. Overall great food at reasonable prices. Very noisy though, you’ll have to speak at the top of your voice.
Skip this place. Not sure if I️ dined at the same restaurant as other reviewers but this is a place to skip. The ribeye was overpriced and sinewy. The gnocchi was bland and underwhelming. It it was packed so then must be doing something right. Just not my cup of tea though.
Fantastic & next best place to get Italian food (pizza) outside of Italy. Wakes your sixth sense! Raw organic ingredients imported from Italy, belonging to the association and preservation of neopolitan pizza. The walls are full of celebrity and famous people’s dining visits at the restaurant, from athletes, singers, actors, politicians, late night show hosts - Georgetown’s hidden gem!
Il Canale food is autentico!! That sounds a bit of posturing on my part, but the food is autentico.
Noise can be a big issue if you eat in the large room to the left as you enter, but there is a much quieter area in the original section of the building.
Service from Tatiana was first rate.
We're from Portland, Oregon and il Canale is one of our two destination restaurants in DC
Took our students who were visiting DC on a school trip from California to Il Canale and loved the food and service. Our server Bruno was great with our large group and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. The food was authentic and delicious, having just been to Italy I have to say the ambience and food reminded me of a real Italian restaurant. Highly recommend.
I went for the first time on a Saturday night and it was one of the best, if not the best, Italian restaurants that I’ve been to! The food is authentic and delicious. The people were friendly, the service was excellent, and I felt like I was back in Italy!! I highly recommend Il Canale! I would definitely Uber because traffic is a problem in the area but it was one of my favorite dining experiences in the U.S.
There were four of us at dinner and we all love pizza. We got the Meat Lovers and the Margherita. Both were quite tasty. We also got a Caesar salad and an arugula salad to start.
With a bottle of wine, the cost for dinner was moderate for four people.
They have seating outside with heat lamps. We dined inside so we wouldn't have to wait and the inside was nice and clean.
I would go to Il Canale again next time I am visiting the DC area.
