The attractive blue-lit, full bar specializes in select Italian wines. In warm weather, dine alfresco at the sidewalk tables or on the roof-top terrazza overlooking the Georgetown scene.

Il Canale Ratings and Reviews
We were seated towards the back and it felt like the waitress was rushing us. We sat down, within 30 seconds she came and asked if we were ready to order. Then when we ordered appetizers, after 5 mins she asked if we were done. She did this with our main course as well. We were in by 5:45 since we got there early and out by 6:15 PM. One of the worst date locations if you want to take your time with your significant other.
Il Canale is a little place located right on the tow path of C&O canal locks in the heart of the Georgetown neighborhood in Washington, DC. It serves a full range of Italian starters, entres and desserts with a specialty in Niapolitan-style wood-oven pizzas. The food is quite good and the front of the house is friendly and very well run. Service is excellent by everyone on the team. The atmosphere is casual and yet it attracts prominent Hollywood and New York finance types for lunch and dinner. It is accessible but recommend a reservation on weekend nights if you do not want to wait. It is popular with Georgetown and folks from surrounding universities.
I will start out by saying we asked the waitress for a coffee and she said there was no coffee but yet the table behind us ordered coffee and the other waitress said, “no problem” so do you or don’t you have coffee? Next the lobster ravioli was way over priced for what I got. There were only five ravioli with little sauce... I was not impressed because it tasted lovely. The only saving grace was the seafood pasta was incredible.
I love the service, from the greeters and hosts to the wait staff. They are truly professional and efficient. And the food is of superior quality for casual Italian dining.
The noise level is pretty high, so it's not a good place for a quiet conversation, at least not on a Saturday night.
Fun and festive holiday meal in Georgetown. Lots of people waiting for tables. Reservation was for 7:30 and we arrived on time. After checking in, we waited at the bar for about 5-10 minutes tops. Our waiter was great, timed our selections and service perfectly. Very busy Maitre'd thanked us on our way out.
Mediocre at best. The fried buffalo mozzarella was cold in the center. The eggplant was soggy. The gnocchi was nothing to write home about and neither were the meatballs. The ambiance was not the cozy brick-walled date-friendly atmosphere described in reviews. Won’t be returning
We were lucky to have a cozy table in the corner. The restaurant is crowded but the service is excellent and the food is good even though my seafood pasta was drowned in sauce with too few clams and mussels, it was tasty an my Husband enjoyed his pizza immensely. We will return to this restaurant
Really delicious pizza and pasta. And wonderful service! Everyone was lovely. The place was a little loud and the space is nice, but not over the top nice, so I wouldn't go there for a really special occasion, but it was a wonderful find for really good food and attentive service. We loved our experience!
