Il Canale Ratings and Reviews
Skip this place. Not sure if I️ dined at the same restaurant as other reviewers but this is a place to skip. The ribeye was overpriced and sinewy. The gnocchi was bland and underwhelming. It it was packed so then must be doing something right. Just not my cup of tea though.
Fantastic & next best place to get Italian food (pizza) outside of Italy. Wakes your sixth sense! Raw organic ingredients imported from Italy, belonging to the association and preservation of neopolitan pizza. The walls are full of celebrity and famous people’s dining visits at the restaurant, from athletes, singers, actors, politicians, late night show hosts - Georgetown’s hidden gem!
Il Canale food is autentico!! That sounds a bit of posturing on my part, but the food is autentico.
Noise can be a big issue if you eat in the large room to the left as you enter, but there is a much quieter area in the original section of the building.
Service from Tatiana was first rate.
We're from Portland, Oregon and il Canale is one of our two destination restaurants in DC
Took our students who were visiting DC on a school trip from California to Il Canale and loved the food and service. Our server Bruno was great with our large group and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. The food was authentic and delicious, having just been to Italy I have to say the ambience and food reminded me of a real Italian restaurant. Highly recommend.
I went for the first time on a Saturday night and it was one of the best, if not the best, Italian restaurants that I’ve been to! The food is authentic and delicious. The people were friendly, the service was excellent, and I felt like I was back in Italy!! I highly recommend Il Canale! I would definitely Uber because traffic is a problem in the area but it was one of my favorite dining experiences in the U.S.
There were four of us at dinner and we all love pizza. We got the Meat Lovers and the Margherita. Both were quite tasty. We also got a Caesar salad and an arugula salad to start.
With a bottle of wine, the cost for dinner was moderate for four people.
They have seating outside with heat lamps. We dined inside so we wouldn't have to wait and the inside was nice and clean.
I would go to Il Canale again next time I am visiting the DC area.
This dinner was disappointing. The food ranged from decent to pretty good and the service was just fine. The problem is the cattle car seating arrangements! It was my daughter’s 15th birthday and they stuck us in the back by the restrooms at a table where we all bumped elbows all night (party of 6). It was so uncomfortable and unfun that we decided to take the cannolis home with us and open the presents there, rather than stay any longer. Bummer because she likes the pizza. Famous birthday dinner will be somewhere else next year.
From the moment we entered the restaurant and tasted the pizza at the door, I knew we were at the right place. Bruno took very good care of our table. The pasta faggoli was tasty as well as the house salad. Lasagna was creamy and the paninis very good. The spaghetti could have used a bit more sauce but the meatballs were delicious.
Ruined! They have absolutely ruined this once-wonderful place by expanding it. It feels like a warehouse full of people now. Noisy and awful, no atmosphere, people sitting inches from one another. Service incredibly, incredibly slow. Why did they cram so many people in??? Not at all what it used to be... Yuck. Not at all enjoyable.
Our experience was "fine." The restaurant was packed with people waiting outside (and our reservation was at 5:45 p.m.!) I didn't find anything particularly interesting about the decor or the food. Our server was very pleasant, but seemed to be rushing around (and rushing us.) Two of us had pasta, which was ok. My husband enjoyed his pizza. I wouldn't rush to go back there.
We love this place! After several visits we know we’re going to make this one of our regular dinner spots. The service is amazing, and so fast! Even on a crowded and packed Friday night, we were seated quickly and before the wine was even opened our appetizer was there! Our sever, Aldo, was awesome! He recommended a wine from his native town in Italy, and it was delicious! The food is amazing, I’ve enjoyed the lobster ravioli multiple times and we’ve tried other items as well. Highly recommend the gluten free pasta as well if you are gluten free - can’t taste the difference! Wonderful place with great service and what a value on price as well! We will be coming here regularly for a long time!
This place is extremely loud and it is difficult to hear the person seated next to you. The food is very average and overpriced. The service is fine, but not good enough to compensate for the other factors. This seems to be best suited for college students, although given the prices, college students with a decent budget.
