The food was great. The servers were nice and really attentive. They did a great job.
We went for Valentine’s Day. It was packed but the food was still very good! We enjoyed everything from the bruschetta con bufala to the excellent gnocchi and authentic delicious margherita pizza. They even brought out tasty heart-shaped pudding on the house! It was a a very good restaurant experience and we look forward to returning again.
Awesome food, very nice waiter
It’s an amazing place with friendly staff and even better food. The buffalo mozzarella is to die for.
That's some excellent authentic pizza. Loved it. We'll be back this weekend.
The staff is super friendly. Since I've booked the table there was no waiting time (maybe a Sunday night is not that full). The complete meal was great. The fried calamari starter was delicious and took less than 5 min. to get to the table after order (super fast service). The pasta was perfectly cooked – al dente – and the sauce was fresh. To end the meal I ordered the tiramisu with a generous amount of mascarpone and a espresso. I'll return next time I come to DC.
Il Canale is a longtime favorite Georgetown restaurant. What's not to like? The ambience is lively and fun, though you can also enjoy a private conversation; the food is terrific, with authentic Neapolitan thin-crust pizzas with delicious toppings (you can choose your own if you'd like) and great pastas and salads; there's a nice list of wines by the glass (or bottle) and beers or other drinks; and the service is professional yet also friendly. Certainly 5 stars and I can't wait to go there again!
Love their food. It is always amazing. They are a little crazy at the host stand and entrance, but when we asked not to sit at the table right in the way of people there accommodated which was nice.
GREAT PIZZA!!! Highly recommend! Make sure you make a reservation as it is packed on weekends!
As an Italian, this is the best pizza I've had in the US
Food was great, server was very knowledgeable, with reservations was seated very quickly
Fabulous pizza -- the real deal. Feels like a bit of Italy. Pasta, meatballs, veggie antipasti, eggplant parm all excellent. The place is packed (book ahead!!) and noisy, but you can still enjoy a conversation and they really move the food out so there is not a lot of waiting. We loved it.
Outstanding pizza and friendly service. A tad expensive but on par with other DC restaurants. Would absolutely go again.
Arrived on time for our booking. Waited 20 minutes, and still about 3 groups in front of us. Seating service was chaotic, restaurant very noisy. With no table in sight decided to go next door to Flavio where the food was great and atmosphere much better.
Lovely but getting to crowded. We have been going since 2010 and it is loosing its appeal.
A reservation is a must. The food was amazing. The service excellent, considering the restaurant was so full, with people waiting at the door for a table. We did not feel rushed to leave. We tried gour kinds of pizza....all were amazing!
our server was a delight. she hustled and even though she misunderstood me she did not question the mistake and made us feel great.
Absolutely loved this place! Great atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff and great service! Food was amazing! I would absolutely go back!
Lovely staff, authentic delicious food! We had a great time here! Definitely will be back.
Everything was pretty great except they rushed all the food out to us. We got our main course halfway through our appetizers. I thought it may have just been bad luck but the same thing happened to the next table.
Manager was rude, intimidating, mean. The wait staff and food were exceptional.
Our first time at Il Canale. We had a very good meal, the kitchen even made egg plant parmesan for me even though it was not on the lunch menu.
All the staff was very friendly.
Service was very good. The restaurant was not full so the noise level was low, I don't know what it would be if more people were there.
Server, pizzaiolo, food runners and all the staff they are really good.. and Bruno was like the cacio sui maccheroni... thank you guys will be back soon
First time for us at Il Canale. It was awesome, and just what we needed- our Italian fix with authentic pizza and the right atmosphere.
On the expensive side, if I think about what I pay for pizza in Italy, but hey we are not in Italy and the pizza was worth it!! Every slice.
Service was also really good.
Always a delightful experience, starting with Crisp tender calamari and zucchine, served with a side of spicy marinara sauce, delicious IALATIELLI ALLO SCOGLIO
Fresh artisan pasta, mussels, shrimp, shallots, clams, spicy cherry tomato, white wine, garlic... the best Pizza MARGHERITA, & a simple fresh house salad ! All four of us enjoyed our evening!
Food is excellent and comes out fast. Our wait staff was near perfect. Only downside is that the front of the house is rude esp when they are swamped.
Excellent pizza, pasta, and wine recommendations. My brother said that the shrimp in his pasta dish was ‘money’ which is highest praise from him since most people cook shrimp until it’s rubbery.
Nice place and good food! We like the warm Italian feel when we go there ! It’s always packed so it must be good!
Food was tasteless
I hadn't been to this restaurant before but decided to go because of the reviews online, and I would definitely also recommend it. One of the best upscale Italian places in DC with a boisterous atmosphere. Very young crowd, if that's your thing.
Great pizza and entrees. Terrific service
Decent Italian food for ok prices. Ambience is good and location great. Enough vegetarian options
Perfect! Everything tasted amazing... authentic Italian and amazing service!
Food was delicious. Gluten free items were excellent.
We missed Bruno our favorite server/manager .. Bruno is like the parmigiano on a carbonara: works really well!!
I didn't think the food was worth the prices charged. $24 for a regular sized pasta with a few pieces of seafood. The pasta sauce was also on the watery side. Cocktail was also on the smaller side. To me, not comparable to the food from other Italian restaurants I've visited in the DC area. They also charged tips to a table of 4 on a Friday night and we weren't aware and paid additional tips on top of the bill.
Wow! Amazing Neopolitan-style pizza. Crispy thin crust, slightly chewy on the inside. One of the very best we've every had. Salads excellent as well. Service was excellent. Manager came over to greet us, check in with us and left us his card. Nice touch. Located in the heart of Georgetown. An amazing experience. We'll definitely be back.
Il Canale never disappoints! I take my family here at least once each month as the food and service is fantastic. It’s one of the few DC restaurants that has a real family run feel where the staff goes out of their way to say hello, and make you feel at home. Grazie mille!
Once we passed on the drink menu, it became clear that we were being rushed along. Main course arrived before the appetizer.
Perhaps it was an abnormally busy Friday night - people were lining up out the door when we left. I have had pleasant experiences here before, (and I would recommend the pizza) but likely won’t be returning soon.
