We were in DC for 3 days and went here twice. Service and food are exceptional. And I am very picky! Sat nights are VERY packed but worth the wait!
Great food and service was wonderful ! They even gave a slice of pizza out as yuu arrived!
Unfortunately, we made the assumption that a reservation was enough to get us a table. We were sadly mistaken. When we arrived we couldn't even get in the door as so many people were under the same impression. It appears as if they accepted every reservation and gave no thought to the customer. We waited for as long as we could and then left. We wandered through Georgetown trying to find a place to eat but it was at least an hour wait. Il Canale ruined our Saturday night dinner plans.
Arrived at the time we reserved through Open Table and were told we would have to wait an additional hour. It was too crowded to sit at the bar or even stand inside and it was freezing outside on the sidewalk. In addition, we had children with us. So went next door to eat.
Don't go here on a Saturday night. It's more of an experience of crowd control than a dining experience. Servers do a great job, food is not bad, but the noise level makes it impossible to converse.
Delicious food and prompt service. My daughter especially loved the lasagna and they even gave her a special canoli for her birthday!
Great food. Very busy but they handle it well. Will definitely come back again.
We came to Il Canale based upon a review in the Washington Post about the best pizza in the area. We expected great pizza and got it. What we also got was great, actually outstanding, service. From the man at the entrance offering samples of pizza to passers by to the attentive and kind server at our table (Eugenia, I think) the service elevated the experience and made for a great night out. We will definitely be back for more.
Delicious food, great service start to finish. Took my 14 year old grandson for a pre-Kennedy Center great. We had meatball starters, pizza and the pasta with shrimp, mussels, and clams, flatbread, side salads, and finished with cannoli. Had a wonderful time.
Made reservations on a busy Saturday night to celebrate a birthday of an out-of-town guest. We were sat down right away and the service was great. The food never disappoints!
Best Pizza this side of Naples or Rome - fresh ingredients, sauce is gray, crust the same.
Staff and management test you like your in your own house
The food was great. The servers were nice and really attentive. They did a great job.
Food is excellent, but we had a reservation and had to wait 20 minutes in a line full of people with reservations. Really rubs me the wrong way. Putting the business before the customer.
Loved it! All the food was fantastic! Truly authentic Neapolitan pizza. We lived in Naples for two years and are very picky - this is the best pizza we've had since then. Very efficient service, friendly atmosphere (if quite busy). Wish they could have offered zeppolini (appetizers), but we will def go back!!
We went for Valentine’s Day. It was packed but the food was still very good! We enjoyed everything from the bruschetta con bufala to the excellent gnocchi and authentic delicious margherita pizza. They even brought out tasty heart-shaped pudding on the house! It was a a very good restaurant experience and we look forward to returning again.
Phenomenal place! The pizza was excellent and the cannolis are the best.
Excellent service and great food.
Awesome food, very nice waiter
Outstanding every time. I can't recommend this place enough.
It’s an amazing place with friendly staff and even better food. The buffalo mozzarella is to die for.
That's some excellent authentic pizza. Loved it. We'll be back this weekend.
The staff is super friendly. Since I've booked the table there was no waiting time (maybe a Sunday night is not that full). The complete meal was great. The fried calamari starter was delicious and took less than 5 min. to get to the table after order (super fast service). The pasta was perfectly cooked – al dente – and the sauce was fresh. To end the meal I ordered the tiramisu with a generous amount of mascarpone and a espresso. I'll return next time I come to DC.
Il Canale is a longtime favorite Georgetown restaurant. What's not to like? The ambience is lively and fun, though you can also enjoy a private conversation; the food is terrific, with authentic Neapolitan thin-crust pizzas with delicious toppings (you can choose your own if you'd like) and great pastas and salads; there's a nice list of wines by the glass (or bottle) and beers or other drinks; and the service is professional yet also friendly. Certainly 5 stars and I can't wait to go there again!
Love their food. It is always amazing. They are a little crazy at the host stand and entrance, but when we asked not to sit at the table right in the way of people there accommodated which was nice.
GREAT PIZZA!!! Highly recommend! Make sure you make a reservation as it is packed on weekends!
As an Italian, this is the best pizza I've had in the US
Food was great, server was very knowledgeable, with reservations was seated very quickly
Fabulous pizza -- the real deal. Feels like a bit of Italy. Pasta, meatballs, veggie antipasti, eggplant parm all excellent. The place is packed (book ahead!!) and noisy, but you can still enjoy a conversation and they really move the food out so there is not a lot of waiting. We loved it.
Outstanding pizza and friendly service. A tad expensive but on par with other DC restaurants. Would absolutely go again.
Arrived on time for our booking. Waited 20 minutes, and still about 3 groups in front of us. Seating service was chaotic, restaurant very noisy. With no table in sight decided to go next door to Flavio where the food was great and atmosphere much better.
Lovely but getting to crowded. We have been going since 2010 and it is loosing its appeal.
A reservation is a must. The food was amazing. The service excellent, considering the restaurant was so full, with people waiting at the door for a table. We did not feel rushed to leave. We tried gour kinds of pizza....all were amazing!
our server was a delight. she hustled and even though she misunderstood me she did not question the mistake and made us feel great.
Absolutely loved this place! Great atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff and great service! Food was amazing! I would absolutely go back!
Always good..
Lovely staff, authentic delicious food! We had a great time here! Definitely will be back.
Everything was pretty great except they rushed all the food out to us. We got our main course halfway through our appetizers. I thought it may have just been bad luck but the same thing happened to the next table.
Manager was rude, intimidating, mean. The wait staff and food were exceptional.
Our first time at Il Canale. We had a very good meal, the kitchen even made egg plant parmesan for me even though it was not on the lunch menu.
All the staff was very friendly.
Service was very good. The restaurant was not full so the noise level was low, I don't know what it would be if more people were there.
Server, pizzaiolo, food runners and all the staff they are really good.. and Bruno was like the cacio sui maccheroni... thank you guys will be back soon
