Very great choice for our visit to GTown, perfect moderately priced & delicious!! Flavors were what we wanted and what we got in exact amounts, garlic, basil, EEVO. Would go back, great service. Pizza dough is fresh, sauce not too sweet, only thing is if you like it on crispier side I should ask! We liked it the way it came, less crispy.
Everything was fine, waiter was a little reserved (not much to say). The food was good, but nothing special. Enjoyed the place and the location.
Ordered lamb chops with roasted potatoes. The lamb shops were pathetic .. tiny, and terribly seasoned. Wasn’t edible. The roasted potatoes were not the typical roasted potatoes but more like undercooked thick cut fries.
I sent it back and ordered pizza.. but by then I had lost interest.
The ladies toilets were absolutely disguising.
The service .. we sat outside. The waitress took our menus away before we ordered. I asked for it back so I could look at it when ordering. I was disappointed they only had Pepsi products , and asked for a rootbeer.. the waitress thought that was a beer.
My daughter is gluten free.. the Bolognaise was very bland.
Brought my little sister here for dinner on Easter and it was really nice! We shared the gnocchi and both had a salad and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice Italian restaurant in the Georgetown area.
We had a lovely time.
The pizzas and service were good but it was very busy and noisy.
Came in town to visit Georgetown and had to try the highly rated il Canale!
Best pizzas I have had in the US. Make sure to make a reservation to avoid long waits
Great experience and delicious food.
Service was poor, noise level was excessive and very difficult to have conversation, food was okay-not exceptional. Not sure what all the hype was about. We had a pretty average experience.
Fun place for some tasty, good food. Decent wine selection, nice staff and quick service. Bustlingly busy so not one for a quite night but certainly good for groups or couples alike.
Best pizza. It tastes exactly like the pizza does in Italy. We come here every time we are in town. Absolutely love this place.
Mediocre food. Host was great but server wasn’t friendly. Probably wouldn’t go back.
Always enjoy eating here!
Great place, great food and great gluten free options
Nothing special about the food.
Service was good and so was the ambience
Excellent seafood dish and lobster ravioli... cannolis excellent !Lasagna for 2 great.. def would recommend !
Fantastic dining experience. The gnocchi is perfectly dressed in buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes, great wine selection, and superb service. Will be returning! Highly recommend trying il canale for dinner
the pizza was really not as good as I remember it being- other thin crust places in DC are much better.
Was in DC for a weekend and chose to try Canale for the thousands of positive reviews on yelp/google. We had high hopes given that when we arrived, people were queuing up outside to get in.
I can stress enough how average the food is at Canale. Which is fine, except for the fact that you are expecting a much different experience given the price.
The bread they brought to the table was stone cold, served with unseasoned oil. All but one pasta dish is made fresh in house and the pizza we had was raw, doughy and very unappetizing. The gnocchi was okay, but again not something you wouldn’t find better else.
Canale is average Italian food, for the price point, you can find much better elsewhere. I would heed skepticism if you are a used to eating authentic Italian.
We had a large group of 10 and the wait staff was great -
We made a reservation and they seated us on time
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend.
After reading lots of reviews it looked like a sweet little Italian restaurant with good food, until you walk in. The place was filled with college students and tourists, the hosts and wait staff were not friendly, despite arriving on time for our reservation. The food was ok, but we were served so quickly in such a noisy environment, you could tell the goal was to push people in and out, definitely lacking any sort of character or authentic experience. Just a tourist trap. I will definitely never return.
When in Georgetown we always love to eat at Il Canale! Food, service, ambience always outstanding. Would reccommend reservations.
Pizza was fresh and great. Caesar salad was not fresh, with too much dressing. The price was much higher than written in the official HP. The restaurant should provide accurate information.
Energetic atmosphere, with fantastic pizza and service to match. Loved it!
Great food options. Impressed with the host's ability to seat folks - it was a madhouse! He did great!
It was a Saturday night so they were extremely busy. We had a reservation and were seated pretty quickly although there were three different men all playing maitre'd and seemed to not be getting along. I felt rushed the entire time. They wanted to get you in and out because there was a line of people waiting outside. I had a chicken dish that was not what I expected and was a rolled piece of chicken that looked more like a sausage. My husband and son had the lasagna which they liked. Our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable but the vibe in the restaurant was one of chaos.
This is a very well managed restaurant. Georgetown was mobbed the night we went but our table was ready, the service was outstanding, and the food very good. We'll be back!
Our first experience dining at Il Canale. The ambience was what was expected: pleasant but very busy and very noisy - no real problem, we just had to add to the noise so we could hear each other!! Food was very good, but our Lobster Ravs were nearly cold when served, also on the "chewy" side, definitely not al dente! Wine excellent!! Next visit to DC, we will come back, for sure.
Food is OK. Quality is compromised for fast turnover of tables. Waiters brush crumbs off the tables with their hands (instead of using a cloth to wipe down) before setting a new place setting. Unripe tomato and bread ends are served to customers instead of discarding them. This is a tourist attraction rather than quality food and a good dining experience.
Excellent Pizza & Prosciutto
Excellent food. Very crowded (on a Friday night) and the noise level was pretty loud... not necessarily a place for intimate conversation. They used every nook and cranny for tables, and it's cramped. Still - would recommend based on the food.
Guy at the front was very douchey and rude to people waiting beyond that the food was just barely ok.
Crazy trying to get in, s mob scene, no place to stand. Food was good, not great, service was excellent
Il Canale aggressively overbooks their available reservation slots. If you make a reservation here at a popular time, expect to wait over an hour beyond your supposed reservation time.
We had a reservation and sat right away, despite the very busy night. Food was pretty good - pizza was excellent. Nice wine list, too. Only reason I’m rating this 4 stars was upon exiting, the line to be seated was massive - so much so, we couldn’t even exit the building. I’m not sure if they overbooked on reservations or if this was a special case, but it was quite chaotic.
Such delicious pizza, excellent service and great fun atmosphere.
The restaurant did not take reservations into account. My party and I had one but we did not get in because there was a line of people with reservations with a one-hour delay. We ended up dining in the restaurant next door. Truly dissapointing.
Great for family dinner
