No complimentary olive oil and bread or bread and butter for the table. Italian restaurants usually serve olive oil parmesan and bread complimentary .

Il Canale is a great place for friends and family. Even though Il Canale has a casual ambiance, the quality of the food is high. The place has wonderful thin crust pizza that leaves you feeling satisfied and surprisingly good meatballs.

Stick with the pizza (I guess). This place has pretty good reviews but seems like it's for their pizzas. We order a pasta dish and a steak dish. Both dishes were way overpriced for the quality and taste (specially the steak). Service was good.

When we arrived at the restaurant, one of the workers was giving away free pizza, which was AMAZING!!! As we had read about the gnocchi, we ordered that, the lobster ravioli, and 2 salads. We also both tried drinks off the specialty menu—Everything was fantastic!!!
The service was wonderful too. My only complaint was that the different courses were served too quickly (in the middle of the previous one). Nonetheless, my mom and I definitely plan to return soon!!!

Celebrated my birthday with family, a fun evening!
The greeter immediately showed us to what he said was the only quiet table. It was out of the way, and we could converse normally. We were very grateful for his giving us that table without even being asked. Our server was wonderful, responding quickly to our every request. Three of us ordered the lobster ravioli. Afterwards all I could remember was the overly tomato-y sauce. I could not remember having tasted any lobster. The tiramisu was fabulous.
Amazing food and service!
Al dente perfection! We were blown away by the value of this place. Pizza samples up front began an evening that pleased even the palette of my pure northern Italian roots. The bread was delicious, menu options plentiful, Chianti good at a moderate price. Food came out surprisingly quickly -- authentic & delicious.
The table at which we were seated was next to an extremely loud group. I wish the management had offered a quieter location to accommodate us, but that is no big deal.

As a visitor to DC, I wasn't expecting such a crowd. Tons of people were waiting for a table, however I was seated at my reservation time exactly. We got a nice table, near the back where it was quiet. The service was impeccable. Everything timed just right. And the food was exceptional. I can't wait to get back there!

Salads were excellent. Different meals at the table, pizza, bronzino, gnocchi and lasagna. Everyone thought it was excellent. Service was great - Aldo was awesome!
Perfect! Could not wait to eat with our boys after we tried it last year. Pizza was delicious, antipasti was beautiful. One of our favorite DC spots. Make a rezzie!

This restaurant is buzzing with energy. The service was excellent. The waitress was attentive and recommended an excellent bottle of wine. The pizza was very tasty and thin crust. We like it crispier on the bottom. I would go back and ask for the pizza to be well done.
