Awesome food and service!! Impressed.
I felt the food was hit (my friends pizza) and miss (lasagna was terrible...unusually thick pasta, very little sauce, canned chef boyardee flavor profile). It tasted as though it had no aromatics salt or anything. I threw it away.
Fathers Day. Usually it’s good but our serv
It was Father’s Day so I took my dad to his favorite restaurant, Il Canale, every time I go the food seems to be better and better. Great Italian food and wonderful servers and managers.
The food, ambience, and employees go above and beyond. The food can be great at any restaurant but it's the feeling you leave with that sets this one apart. You truly feel welcome and appreciated for being their guest.
Outstanding food at reasonable prices with very good service. I would recommend the meatballs and side Caesar salad as appetizers and any of the pizzas are absolutely delicious. The pastas are great too and the Branzino is marvelous, particularly for a place not specializing in seafood!
Love the food. The pizzas are delicious, and there is a great atmosphere. It was super busy on a Saturday night but we had a reservation.
I went to Il Canale on my very first night on my move to DC and I have to say it is hard to compare to! Incredible food, incredible service. I have been dreaming about it since I had it and so had my sister who was helping me move from out of town. When my family came to visit it was the only “must do” on my list! Was just as pleased the second time. Can’t say enough wonderful things! The staff really makes you feel welcomed and everyone is very knowledgeable on Italian cuisine and Italian culture. They definitely know what they are doing and I will be back soon.
Great find in DC.
Classic crafted pizza. (Outstanding GF menu). The servings are huge!
The flavors complement each other, seafood and the sause. Meatball with gravy and bruschetta for an appetizer was perfect suggestion by waiter. Peroni beer and a nice chianti. Cannoli dessert!!!
Dining experience was absolutely amazing. The food is the closest thing to real Italian food in the US, and the service was phenomenal. The staff was very accommodating to our request. Special recognition to our waitress Boggy!
One of our absolute favorite restaurants! They never disappoint!!
Our Lasagna was great. Out pizza wasn’t as great as last time. Prosciutto and mozzarella were as great as last time.
I was encouraged by the reviews and was really looking forward to a good Italian meal. The cannelloni was fine but nothing special. The lobster ravioli was tasty but it tasted like frozen with jarred sauce. Service was excellent.
Family style restaurant. Food was just ok. Nothing spectacular. Not worth a come back
Definitely was not disappointed with this recommendation! Reservation is helpful!
We arrived at seven for our 7pm reservation and were seated immediately. It was a beautiful, warm evening and everyone wanted to sit outside. We were lucky and arrived just as a patio table freed up. The host was very gracious and funny. Our waitress was incredible. The outdoor space is very small and on the outside pavement so the waitress had to navigate people coming and going through the restaurant entrance, then dodge any pedestrians that might be walking by, as well as the long line up of guests waiting to be seated. She did it with an incredible amount of skill and calm, never dropping a thing! The food was served very quickly (salad to share and individual pizzas) and the pizzas were piping hot. I had the Napoli which had a lovely thin crust, with a little charring as any good Neapolitan pizza should have. It was perfect. The wine list was perfect for the food and the casual ambiance, with some great whites such as Falanghina, which is rare to see in a restaurant in N. America. We were so glad to see that the list was not all Pinot Grigio and Chianti. It was my guest’s birthday and he was treated to a really good cannoli with a candle on top. All in all, it was a great evening and a delicious meal.
I would highly recommend sitting outside if the weather is warm, it sounded a bit noisy inside but everyone looked happy. The coming and going outside made for interesting people watching and we didn’t feel jostled or crowded.
We enjoyed the quality of food and service. It’s an open, friendly environment but the noise level became unbearable after 30 minutes sitting down.
Awesome! I generally don’t write reviews, but this experience was truly exceptional!! Best food we’ve ever had. No joke. Loved it!
Lunch - started with calamari appetizer and we split margherita pizza (2 people). I saw younger boys eating a whole pizza per person. Really fantastic pizza. Thin and NY-ish. I'd love to come back for dinner next time in DC. Don't hesitate trying this place! We walked a block to Georgetown shopping street afterward. Very close.
As always impeccable food at Il Canale. Real italian food from
southern Italy. One of the best in DC. Great service also
Delicious pizzas and canolis! Would definitely go again
Too expensive for what it was. Had the lobster ravioli, nothing special.
Real and good italian restaurant in Georgetown.
We ordered a pizza, bruschette, prosciutto and mozzarella: everything was very good and high quality.
Nice and fast service.
I love this place! True authentic Italian.
Read all reviews, calamari and pasta over cooked. Not authentic by any means. Very disappointed.
Love the gnocchi as always!!! Pizza delicious. I come back here time and time again. Staff is so friendly.
vacation with hubby
This place was all-around great! Loved the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. I had the Margherita pizza and it was the best pizza I’ve ever had. My friend got the gnocchi bolognese and while the gnocchi was amazing, the sauce was very bland. Overall, a great experience and would definitely come again for the pizza!
The pizza was impeccable and is one of the few locations that features delicious artisanal still water.
great food. reasonable. wonderful service. but loud. Still, I'll be back
Great experience. All of the food was great and their gluten free options were greatly appreciated. We will definitely be back.
I've heard great reviews about Il Canale and was looking forward to experiencing it myself. We had reservations through Open Table @ 8pm however when we arrived, they were running behind and we weren't seated until close to 9pm. We were escorted upstairs to a rather sterile seating area that was loud. Service was poor perhaps due to a busy Memorial Day weekend. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive and we had to remind the waitress that we'd been waiting for a while. Not a positive experience unfortunately, although once the food finally arrived, it was very nice.
Unbelievable service, wait staff were very friendly, the food was very tasty,,
I will go back again the next time I am in town
Food was good. Service excellent.
My wife and I met 6 years ago on a date that same day owner said come back here on your anniversary it was cute and hey it worked out and we did. We love coming back as often as we can. The service was great, the margarita pizza is excellent, all the ingredients are from Italy and we wanted to recreate the pizzas we ate in Italy. Overall great experience there is a reason why they have been great for so many years. Can't wait to go back again for our anniversary or even sooner
Great service and great food in the middle of Georgetown
A really very good pizza, nice side salad and good red wine... what else does one need.... very nice wait staff
Food was underwhelming - we had bruschetta calamari and one of the more ‘popular’ pizzas and I hate to say it but did not finish any of these.
We split the Il Canale salad and pizza. A great split and enough food. Great authentic food.
The pizza was great and gnocchi seemed to be homemade. The penne we had seemed to be boxed pasta and wasn’t anything special. Calamari was great. I would go back.
