Amazing. This is one of my go to restaurants for the wine, the pizza and the ambiance. The three provide enough interest and the activity going on around you is enough to make the night exactly, amazing. On the flip side, the wine knowledge could be better and steer you towards something which might pair nicely with your food selection. Overall, it is good, very good. My date and I really enjoyed it.
The food was great, but alas, that's no secret. Which means they were busy and there's a wait even with reservations. It also means that there are a lot of people talking which makes it noisy. But clearly, the food is worth it.
quality of the food has unfortunately dropped considerably in the last year. Pizza used to be incredibly delicious with a focus on quality ingredients. The salad featured arugula which had seen better days. An uninspired meal which inattentive service. The restaurant was quite packed but was still serving free pizza outside to entice more visitors- evidently the focus is number of visitors rather than on a quality experience. So disappointed, as this was an outstanding restaurant previously.
Very busy, casual Italian trattoria. This place is a factory, get em in and get em out. Cramped dining room, even saw a party of six seated at a table for four. I assume they didn't have reservations and were desperate to eat there. Service was attentive almost to a fault. We were rushed to order and received our main dishes before we finished our appetizers. Had meatball appetizer which was tasty and moist. Caesar salad was very dry with minimal dressing. All three pasta's, Ravioli, Gnocchi and Carbonara were not great. Loved that the most of the staff spoke Italian, however the food was far from authentic.
Pizza was divine! But the pasta was just okay. Nothing special - especially in light of price and relatively small portions. Kitchen unaccommodating in allowing substitution. Very, very loud and crowded. Waitress a bit snotty and didn’t display much warmth or welcome. It was freezing inside as well. Very average!
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal at Il Canale. Delicious flavors and authentic Neopolitan style pizza!
Overall great food. However, it was like everyone was yelling in there. The noise level is very high.
Service and food were amazing. The entire family was happy and full.
Very good food but noisy. Will order food to go next time
Great spot near our hotel in Georgetown. Would definitely recommend!
Consistently wonderful! We have been here several times and love it each time. The food is consistently good, as is the service and atmosphere. This is definitely my favorite go-to restaurant for classic and casual Italian cuisine. Not fancy but always wonderful!
Food was good, a lot of gluten free choices!
OMG This Food Was The F* Best. We had the lasagne and the carnivore pizza !! It was so freaking good I really don’t even know what to say.
Great food and extremely courteous service! I will recommend this restaurant to all my friends and will visit back often.
Great service! Delicious food!
We enjoyed an excellent family dinner at Il Canale. I had the best gnocchi I have ever eaten before. My husband and son enjoyed their favorite pizza. They serve the best pizza in DC. The only reason I did not give this occasion a higher rating is that our table was small and we were very cramped but great service and absolutely delicious food.
Great location, tastes of Italy for sure. The 'Super Tuscan' was Super.
I came here with my friends and family on a Saturday night and had a blast. Incredible food and atmosphere.
This busy restaurant knows how to make each customer feel special. Even though there was a line of people out the door waiting to get in, the manager got to all of us and got us tables. Our waiter, Bruno, was lots of fun and very efficient. Love the charcuterie appetizer tray here. The prosciutto was to die for. Our pasta dishes and pizzas were fabulous and love that they serve Falanghina wine by the glass. Delicious!
Food was subpar Italian for the price and reputation. Pizza had the right ingredients but was undercooked and saggy. My Italian wife said that the soffrito of her seafood dish scialatielli allo scoglio was made with large onion pieces instead of garlic in a sauce. Didn’t care for it . Small portions
Our table was terrible. We felt as though we were constantly in the way of everything (we were seated in the aisle way between two rooms and stairs). Very loud. Couldn't hear anyone at my table. What's the point of a reservation if I'm going to be seated at one of the worst tables in house?
Il Canale was such a fun experience! Their gluten free options are great - pasta, pizza, salads, etc. Drink menu had nice options and they arrived quickly. We ordered two pizzas (one gluten free, one regular), two pastas and some sides. Everything was great. My 10 and 7yro old said it was the “best pizza ever”. They even asked for it the following night. I’d also recommend the pesto (ordered the GF pesto). It was perfectly done.
It was very busy on the Saturday night we visited - having a reservation was important.
Absolutely outstanding. One of the finest pizzas I ever ate. And I have had pizza all over the world. Special shout out to our server Bruno who is one of the best servers encountered in quite some time.
We were a group of 10 conference delegates from Georgetown, and 4 of them we’re delayed reaching the restaurant. The manager was extremely rude and made the rest of the group wait for half an hr near the entrance instead of seating us. We had booked a large table 2 days in advance. But that didn’t seem to matter. We will never visit this restaurant again. The food was mediocre but the lady serving us was wonderful.
Another great meal at olive Canale. Pro tip you get a free cannoli for checking in on yelp!
Very noisy but good vibes! The pizza could be improved as to sauce being bland and the additions on top could be chopped up so as to eat easier.
Waiter very nice
My husband and Zile met in Georgetown almost 40 years ago but every time we visit, it still feels like home. The MOST welcome discovery we have made in past 4 years is Il Canale. Their food tastes like Italy. It is sublime. And the family that owns the restaurant— what nice people. Last week, on our way to restaurant, we were catch in construction, so I called to say we would be late. A half - hour late and we were seated immediately on a BUSY Friday night.
Great. I don’t want to say anymore
Mainly just a pizzeria
Reservation worked well, got seated immediately. Service good
Perfect Italian getaway!
Food and service were great. Only issue is that we were sat by two tables with loud, screaming children.
Great production from start to finish! Lively friendly Southern Italian is obvious from the first moment (walk by and get a free slice of pizza - the irresistible teaser), make a reservation and return to a bustling joint full of people enjoying themselves and their superb thin crust Neapolitan pizzas! What a blast it was! Not romantic but plenty energetic, lots of good vibes, fun for a couple or a family! Signature dishes ("Il Canale" anything, a dead giveaway) awesome, the Manager's Pick wine suited the pizza perfectly! Nobody rushes you, and our wait time for our pizza was fine even when they were packed. They've got it so right!!!!
Best Italian food in Washington, DC area. Delicious pizza.
The food and service were really good. I was a little bit disappointed because in my reservation I said that it is my wife birthday, but it seems no one really care about that.
The arancini were spoiled and although I told the waiter who reported to the manager and then reported to the manager they were on our bill although we left one out of 3 and shared the other 2 with 4 people. $10 for 3 small arancini so hot cheap either. The pizza I chose was already expensive at 18 dollars and I asked to add olives not knowing that 4 olives would cost me an additional 2 dollars. It took us 30 minutes to get the order for dessert out ..... and to receive the correct amount of cannoli we wanted. The pasta that 3 of us ordered was over cooked and the sauce was way too watery. A terrible experience and I will never go back. I am from Italy as well so I know how much a pizza costs to make and how pasta or arancini should taste when you claim to be an authentic Italian restaurant. I had been there many times and never had this experience before so the choice of this new management and maybe the expansion greatly influenced the raise of the prices and the bad quality in service and food. Would not recommend.
Fabulous from customer service to pizza, cocktails and desserts!
Maitre’d (owner) was very warm and welcoming woven though we called and said we would be a bit late. While you wait they offer you free pizza. Food is excellent, great variety. Very good service!! Would definitely go back.
First time but will not be the last!
We love this place. Took visiting family members from Italy for pizza and they gave it a big thumbs up for good pizza, good wine, and beautiful people. It was crowded and loud on a Friday night, and service was struggling a little to keep up, but it was still great. Pizzas came out super fast to make up for wait time getting our order.
