Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria
This "simple convivial spot that tastes just like Italy" feels like a "village inside-a-restaurant". While the Alimentari sells house made salumi, freshly baked bread and an ample assortment of imported and domestic items, the open kitchen looks out onto a rustic dining room with communal tables and long marble wine bar. A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Garrison Price features salumi/cheese boards, small sharing plates, fresh pastas and roasted meats and fish from a rotisserie and wood burning oven. The upstairs private dining loft, adjacent to the roof garden and overlooking the main restaurant and market, is available for parties up to 50 people for cocktails and/or a seated dinner. Whole fish under sea salt and roasted short ribs or porchetta are house staples often served family style as are house made gelato tastings.

Excellent service and knowledgeable wait staff.
This is a really nice place in theatre district that rises above most of the “pre theatre” alternatives. Attentive service and very good food in a relaxed but upscale environment. My date and I were delighted to discover it!
I celebrated my 20 year anniversary here and everything was perfect. From the service to the meal. You can not go wrong celebrating a special occasion at Il Buco.
Our waitress was Flora and she couldn't have been more attentive, personable or knowledgeable. We had the olive oil flight-delicious. The appetizer special was lagostinos, fabulous and my mussels were were so good.
Old shrimp — they were seasoned very nicely but were mushy (due to soaking in cold water/melted ice too long)
Pasta dish was nicely seasoned but the pasta itself was beyond al dente— basically undercooked.
Porchetta - dry, over cooked, very little edible meat due to amount of fat. The fat was not properly rendered.
Unfortunately there were too many things wrong and we will not go back.
Restaurants in NYC are so obsessed with originality and spice choice that they often forget that most of the focus in the kitchen should be given to the main ingredient.
The service was lovely, however, as was the ambience.
Food was amazing, staff was phenomenal esp since we had two young children. Couldn’t have been better
Thought we had reservation for the other Il bucco a block away. Ambience of the restaurant is worst then Olive Garden; feels like they put tables in a deli. Lighting is very bright and not romantic. Prices are too high for it not being the real il bucco. I would rather go to one of the dozens of other great Italian places in the neighborhood than this one.
Great meal, interesting wine list, wonderful service. Highly recommend. All meals ordered were amazing.
Always the best!
Though prices are a tad high - the equality is matching. Wonderful service - knowledgable wine director - friendly wait staff.
Perfect before or after going to Public Theater.
our favourite italian restaurant. casual and relaxed atmosphere. very friendly and welcoming staff. food and beverages are of excellent quality! always worth a visit!
Truly THE best restaurant in NYC! Authentic and beyond delicious cuisine........professional and convivial staff.......warm and welcoming.
Cannot wait to return!
Always a good choice. Unfortunately, the prices seem to have up quite a bit compared to when I came first time. Hope they will not price themselves out of the market, I would like to have Alimentari stay in the neighborhood.
Also, the menu could be changed a bit more often. But everything on the menu looks good and it’s all well prepared.
We love the atmosphere here. Unfortunately the service tonight was terrible. There are so many back waiters etc walking around- and insufficient wait staff. Appetizers came before drinks and it took 10 mins to order drinks.
I was disappointed we didn't have a table as we had made the reservation and had not been told that we would be seated at the bar. The staff was nice and they did offer a table after we sat at the bar, but at that point we were settled in. Next time, they should alert people that bar seating is treated like regular seating.
Also, the bartender seemed a bit out of it and not very friendly.
The food is fresh, delicious and impeccably presented. Great wine choices and our server was really knowledgeable about every item and recommendations
Always great! Thank you.
Ottimo! Bel locale e buona cucina
The best pasta I have ever eaten! Our server was very knowledgeable and the service was impeccable.
Best birthday dinner ! The artichoke was a knockout!
This was our first time here. The experience was superb. Quality ingredients. Expertly prepared pasta. Reasonably priced wine bottles. Attentive knowledgeable service by Hector with assistance by many others. We will return.
Another fantastic meal with outstanding service. Our fifth time there and hoping for many more visits.
Fantastic food and fantastic service! Maria was our waitress and she was wonderful.
My risotto was the first dish I have ordered at any of your restaurants that was actually bad. : ( And when my husband told the server that he didn't love his wine choice (a Montefalco) she didn't offer to replace it with another wine although he hadn't drunk much of it. Not a crime but also not great service. We usually love you guys but the meal was not up to par.
The food was exceptional, however the portions are small for the price you’re paying. Additionally, while the service was attentive, at times I felt rushed.
Excellent flavor and good service. The environment felt so comfortable.
Food is ok, I would call Italian-inspired rather than Italian (I’m Italian). Ambience is average, not bad or anything but quite plain vanilla. Wine, I had a good bottle: a 1999 sforzato, I recommend it. The wine made my night. Ok for catching up with friends I would not go for a special occasion.
Erica, one of the waitresses is absolutely the best. Ask for her and you will have an amazing experience.
signature dish was not prepared well......I have had the Cacio Pepe many times...at Il Buco Alimentari. Way too aldente .
Very good quality food. Excellent desserts & wine! Cheers
Absolutely wonderful! Will definitely go back.
Place was great, food, service definitely will go back
My husband and I were really excited to dine at Il Buco Alimentari-I just wish our experience had been better. We were seated upstairs at the bar stools which were uncomfortable to be honest and a bit confusing as there were plenty of open tables. Our waitress was great-very knowledgeable of the menu, dishes and explained in detail the new chefs method, etc. We ordered the ricotta to start which was average. We both love Cacio el Pepe and split an order before our main course. The noodles seemed undercooked, which was very disappointing. Before we could finish our pasta, our main courses were brought out and the small bar space was suddenly crowded with our drinks, bread, first course and main course dishes. For our main we ordered the porchetta and branzino. I had never had branzino before and the dish was good-I just couldn’t eat the whole serving. My husband liked the porchetta-describing it as good but not great-however, it upset his stomach. Unfortunately, we were leaving town the next day and were unable to take my fish leftovers home, which the wait staff seemed to judge us for. We ended up leaving without getting dessert which is rare for me. It’s possible we just happened to come to Il Buco Alimentari on an off night since it seems to have so many wonderful reviews. We were really looking forward to our meal and unfortunately left with buyer’s remorse as it turned out to be an “okay”, over-priced meal.
Despite having made a reservation a few days in advance, we were seated at a communal high top table which wasn’t ideal for three senior citizens.
The food and service was not as good as before. Too much staff turnover.
One of my favorite places in town for excellent (casual) Italian. Service is exceptional! Highly recommend Il Buco Alimentari.
The starters of beef carpaccio were fantastic but the pasta main course was very basic bordering on poor. Lacked flavour
Great service. The somm was very attentive and educated. Perfect suggestion for wine pairing with our food choices.
Stellar! Ttruly italian place! Attentive service and great food!
The service is okay. The pasta portions are tiny and they have nerve to charge $2 per person for very generic bread. Not impressed.
