About Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria
Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is a market, salumeria, bakery and restaurant dedicated to quality products.
This "simple convivial spot that tastes just like Italy" feels like a "village inside-a-restaurant". While the Alimentari sells house made salumi, freshly baked bread and an ample assortment of imported and domestic items, the open kitchen looks out onto a rustic dining room with communal tables and long marble wine bar. A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Garrison Price features salumi/cheese boards, small sharing plates, fresh pastas and roasted meats and fish from a rotisserie and wood burning oven. The upstairs private dining loft, adjacent to the roof garden and overlooking the main restaurant and market, is available for parties up to 50 people for cocktails and/or a seated dinner. Whole fish under sea salt and roasted short ribs or porchetta are house staples often served family style as are house made gelato tastings.

Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria Ratings and Reviews
Food was great. Our server was on point with respect to her attention to my friends young daughter, she brought out a croissant for her when she heard her ask for One. However, during the meal, after our entrees were served we wanted to switch wines and we did not see her for about 10 minutes...overall a good experience evenstill.
On Great Jones Street, this vibrant cafe treats food and wine with serious intention to the best effects. Providing both small and large plates with a broad selection of meats, fish and salads, you'll not go away unhappy. AT lunch the fried rabbit is a treat and on this visit the special fish in broth was fantastic. Great bar as well
The food was just okay. Lacked flavor. Ordered the bucatini because I'd read others' recommendations, but it was nothing special. The house-cured salmon was beautiful to look at, but I needed to add salt, which felt like a crazy thing to have do to something "cured."
Food is ok, Nothing special. The atmosphere is nice and very attractive. I had a reservation at 8 pm and, after waiting 40 minutes outside, at 8:40 the hostess came to me saying “if you want I can give you 4 seats at the big table right next to the door, otherwise it’s gonna take more time”.. after 40 minutes we couldn’t wait any longer. The waitress was ok at the beginning, I gave my credit card to her in advance cause I didn’t want anyone else to pay. After she took the order for desserts she disappeared taking my credit card home with her. I’ve been waiting for a while to get my check and get out of this place, and not even the manager came to apologise.. definitely I won’t go back.
I hosted a client for what turned out to be a delightful meal. At first I feared we were being sent to restaurant Siberia (second floor counter) but passing a Broadway star on the way to our table assuaged my concerns. A little. Service was a tad slower than I remembered, but the pace evened out over the course of the meal, and we were able to linger as long as we liked.
Pleasant enough meal, attractive ambience. Flavours of food good but the bucatini were poorly cooked. I've lived in Italy and know what is al dente and what not: these were wiry and could have done with a minute or two longer in the pasta water.
Despite a brief wait for our table the rest of the experience was flawless. The food outstandingly delicious. Heirloom tomatoes were delicately seasoned and the fried artichokes were fried to perfection. Pasta was simply perfect and the olive oil cake is a must have. Our server was just the right amount of attentive. His recommendations were spot on. A perfect birthday celebration with the love of my life. Thank you to the team at Il Buco for making the evening wonderful. Can't wait to come back.
Great mission in support fresh ingredients sourced at local farms. Wonderful, attentive and knowledgeable service. Pleasant, warm, urban-bucolic atmosphere, although a little on the loud side. Very well-prepared straight-forward familiar dishes with just enough interesting twists to keep one curious and wanting more. The pana cota and olive oil cake with pickled rhubarb and caramel sauce were big hits. A bit pricey given the portion sizes, but overall, an excellent experience.
Extremely loud. We had a reservation but were made to wait for our table, and then they tried to seat us in the bar area. Too loud to hear the waiter. The table was so wide we were an awkwardly far distance from our dining companions, which made hearing even more difficult. I like al dente pasta but this was actually undercooked. Overall a disappointment. Had been here twice before and had better experiences. Hopefully this was a fluke.
Interesting Italian menu selections. Great olive oils. The braised short ribs and basket of bread were sensational on our first visit -- disappoingly less so this time around.
The bartender was annoyingly distracted in conversation. The Artichoke appetizer had an enjoyable texture and was a decent starter, but wanted for seasoning and lemon. The night's special mushroom elbow pasta with lobster mushroom was inferior. The textures were off, the sauce was bland, the choice of elbow pasta itself missed the boat and the flavor of the top-billed ingredients --- the mushrooms-- was barely detectable.
The distuct success on our first visit may bring us back, perhaps for a two out of three ruling.
We came for dinner with a reservation and they wanted us to sit at the bar. There was an empty table nearby which they said it was reserved. Ultimately they let us sit at the table but I have found recently there is a supercilious attitude that puts me off. Servers very good food very good but who needs that attitude?
No member of the staff was accommodating. Service was extremely slow. There was so much noise from other clients, packed in close by, and the racket of staff moving around that conversation was impossible. My guests were polite but clearly it was a very uncomfortable and thus unsatisfactory evening from their perspective. I was embarrassed because your staff did nothing to try to smooth out this situation an accommodate my guests needs by finding us a quieter table. For example, tables were vacant outdoors, a quieter area, during the entire time we were at the restaurant but we were told we could not be seated there.
I will not return.
Everything we had was spot on - but the one memorable dish that I thought was unique and absolutely delicious was the short rib. It was fall of the bone tender, but was finished probably in a really hot oven or something because the fat was nice and crispy!
Was one of the best experience in dining out. We tried a lot of dishes, all top notch. The staff very helpful and knowledgeable. The wine list was very different the som. Was a big help, our server knew everything about the food and drinks making a good experience a great one. The negroni was the best as was the grappa, can't wait to go back, great place.
