About Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria
Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria is a market, salumeria, bakery and restaurant dedicated to quality products.
This "simple convivial spot that tastes just like Italy" feels like a "village inside-a-restaurant". While the Alimentari sells house made salumi, freshly baked bread and an ample assortment of imported and domestic items, the open kitchen looks out onto a rustic dining room with communal tables and long marble wine bar. A seasonal menu by Executive Chef Garrison Price features salumi/cheese boards, small sharing plates, fresh pastas and roasted meats and fish from a rotisserie and wood burning oven. The upstairs private dining loft, adjacent to the roof garden and overlooking the main restaurant and market, is available for parties up to 50 people for cocktails and/or a seated dinner. Whole fish under sea salt and roasted short ribs or porchetta are house staples often served family style as are house made gelato tastings.

Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria Ratings and Reviews
Beautiful food with seasonal updates. The roasted squash with pepitas, aged goat cheese, and calabrian chili oil was a perfect fall dish. The selection of 4-5 pastas is always diverse and perfectly prepared. The tagliolini neri with crab is the current star. Great seating options for small or large groups. We enjoyed being seated at the bar this past weekend and Jon, the bartender/server, hit all the right notes - knowledgeable and friendly without being instrusive. Very knowledgeable sommeliers who also strike the right balance of sharing good wine insights/history/tasting notes/ without getting too technical or serious.
Even with advance reservations for birthday, we were walk to seat at the bar. After asking for a table we were walked to sit in front of the restaurant in a very uncomfortable high seat in the Market area. Not what you expect to seat and eat what everything the Chef promise in the review and food everything from scratch but nothing unforgettable. Love the olive oil and will stop by to buy a bottle but not for dinner ever again.
Food was great. Our server was on point with respect to her attention to my friends young daughter, she brought out a croissant for her when she heard her ask for One. However, during the meal, after our entrees were served we wanted to switch wines and we did not see her for about 10 minutes...overall a good experience evenstill.
On Great Jones Street, this vibrant cafe treats food and wine with serious intention to the best effects. Providing both small and large plates with a broad selection of meats, fish and salads, you'll not go away unhappy. AT lunch the fried rabbit is a treat and on this visit the special fish in broth was fantastic. Great bar as well
The food was just okay. Lacked flavor. Ordered the bucatini because I'd read others' recommendations, but it was nothing special. The house-cured salmon was beautiful to look at, but I needed to add salt, which felt like a crazy thing to have do to something "cured."
Food is ok, Nothing special. The atmosphere is nice and very attractive. I had a reservation at 8 pm and, after waiting 40 minutes outside, at 8:40 the hostess came to me saying “if you want I can give you 4 seats at the big table right next to the door, otherwise it’s gonna take more time”.. after 40 minutes we couldn’t wait any longer. The waitress was ok at the beginning, I gave my credit card to her in advance cause I didn’t want anyone else to pay. After she took the order for desserts she disappeared taking my credit card home with her. I’ve been waiting for a while to get my check and get out of this place, and not even the manager came to apologise.. definitely I won’t go back.
I hosted a client for what turned out to be a delightful meal. At first I feared we were being sent to restaurant Siberia (second floor counter) but passing a Broadway star on the way to our table assuaged my concerns. A little. Service was a tad slower than I remembered, but the pace evened out over the course of the meal, and we were able to linger as long as we liked.
Pleasant enough meal, attractive ambience. Flavours of food good but the bucatini were poorly cooked. I've lived in Italy and know what is al dente and what not: these were wiry and could have done with a minute or two longer in the pasta water.
Despite a brief wait for our table the rest of the experience was flawless. The food outstandingly delicious. Heirloom tomatoes were delicately seasoned and the fried artichokes were fried to perfection. Pasta was simply perfect and the olive oil cake is a must have. Our server was just the right amount of attentive. His recommendations were spot on. A perfect birthday celebration with the love of my life. Thank you to the team at Il Buco for making the evening wonderful. Can't wait to come back.
