We really like this restaurant. We order cacio e pepe and pappardelle and some ginger sodas. The food was amazing and the service was great! The food was serve very fast but we really love the place.
food is overpriced, tables are nasty and dirty, very simple menu, host was extremely rude and sat us with only two menus for 3-4 of us, so when I asked for another menu I got an extreme aggressive and rude answer
Great dinner and good service overall. Hostesses we’re in a conversation upon arrival that we felt we were interrupting. I was really looking forward to their tenderloin but was disappointed it was taken off the menu with no comparable substitute. There was lamb but I prefer no bone…cocktails, food and service was good. Ordered lasagna and tiramisu, both of which are smaller portions than I’ve been served in the past. We were also looking forward to the limoncello they serve at the meals end. We were served two shot glasses instead of the small bottle and glasses they served in the past. Our child voiced his and our disappointment before we could about no bottle which before, made for a super presentation, extended the sense of “attention to detail” and thorough hospitality. Although we’ll definitely go back, the overall service, menu and hospitality aren’t quite what they once were for us. With tip we spent over $250 which is okay but I’d feel better if they re-upped their game.
Heard so many great things about it...Im very disappointed! Terrible service!
Server took forever to come to us. had no idea about the wine or food menu. he had to go back to management several times to get answers to us.
First time in my life they asked me even before ordering our main dish if I was going to get dessert because kitchen was closing soon! I haven't even ordered my food! no wine in the table and he comes with that question??? Not only that but now I'm feeling rushed already! I asked for a sample of the wine I wanted to order and he said they don't do samples on wine that they don't sell by the glass ( IU understand that) so I looked back at the menu and show him that specific wine they sell by the glass.
When food comes in, not silverware or plates on the table for the sharables. Ambience and food were ok. I ordered the mussels and at least 1/2 were empty shells! main course and pastas were excellent. such a bad experience.
Great happy hour spot and loved the live jazz ensemble on a Thursday evening. Will be back!
Happy hour is the best in town. The bartenders have the right attitude.
The agnolotti is a must!
Dinners are always amazing, one of my favorite spots in Austin!
The Appetizer was amazing and the lamb was really good. Loved the ambiance! Will go back for drinks.
We LOVED the restaurant! It was our first visit. Won't be our last. The food was delicious. Our waitress, Nina, was helpful and very knowledgeable. We would, in the future, request a table where she offers service. Husband had the squid pasta, I had the swordfish. Exquisite presentations. Marvellous wine and cocktail pairings. Superb selection of Italian beverages. A truly fun place. We will take visiting family their, for sure!
Beautiful patio, great server who was very knowledgeable about the entire menu and you can’t beat 1/2 priced drinks at happy hour
My friend had the angolotti which was divine. We split a farm salad (which was huge) and I had the salami pizza. It was by far the best pizza I've had at a non-pizzaria. The pistachio ice cream for me was a miss. Very salty. But all in all, a great meal. Great place to go out with friends an intimate date night.
Amazing bruschetta with anchovies, ego land with slightly over-fried artichokes and great squid ink pasta. Definitely will go back and taste some more.
The food was quite tasty! They really know how to make some delicious cheese dishes. However the serive was lacking and the temperature was so warm inside we were sweating.
Not bad! The music was so loud I had to shout at my wife from 2 feet away. But, the food and cocktails were good.
I am Italian (from Italy.. ad I like to say "fresh off the boat") and this restaurant is one of the few where I know I can eat real Italian dishes.
I love the Cacio e Pepe, to me it's a test dish.. very simple ingredients, but also very easy to screw up if you don't know what you are doing.. and Il Brutto has a majestic Cacio e Pepe. Fabulous atmosphere and drinks. The Spritz, my favorite, is so well done it feels like I might be back in Italy having drinks with my friends in the main square of my town Bologna!
The food wasn’t great and needed more seasoning but wasn’t terrible I guess.
The main issue was our server. Started out great then when we ordered entrees we named off a few to share, then paused saying “and one more just a sec”as we looked back on the menu, and the waitress literally turned around and walked away Ha!
Then when our drinks were delivered, the guy bringing them out spilled half a martini and said he would bring a new one to replace it. When he came back, it was a 1 ounce shot of the martini. Seems ridiculous that they wouldn’t make it right by bringing out a new beverage.
Don’t plan to come back ever again.
Incredible, handmade, scratch cooking with an exceptional wine and cocktail menu. Every dish we had was perfect- from the citrus rind tinged olives, to the bechamel infused lasagne, to the delicate tiramisu. We can't wait to go back. Thanks chef!
I am a cacio e pepe fanatic. And my cacio e pepe here was lumpy and nearly inedible. I would have sent it back, but I didn’t want to interrupt the flow of my friends’ meals. No one asked how our meals were - service was rushed and impersonal.
Housemade lemoncello is good, and the bar and patio are pretty. But there is better Italian food (better cacio e pepe for sure) in Austin.
The lasagna was on point as well as the wine! Highly recommend this place if you love Italian.
I traveled through Italy a few years ago, and my meal at Il Brutto was the closest thing I've found to what I experienced there. Our meal was outstanding. We tried four different pasta dishes, and I struggle to decide which was my favorite. Great atmosphere in a trendy spot with fantastic food and attentive service. What more could you ask for? Also, while I easily found street parking, they offer validation for parking the Arnold garage.
Went for an early dinner. Service was good. Food came out in a timely manner. All our food was done well. Menu was big enough to service different tastes. Desserts were excellent.
Jess was the best server we’ve ever had. And the food was really great. All the pasta.
Beautiful restaurant inside and out. Solid friendly service. Had drinks at the indoor bar then dinner on the outdoor patio under a big live oak. Good spot for people watching on a bustling street just east of downtown. Everything was perfect and would recommend it.
Great food - good for vegetarians. The dirty martini was not the best but the rest of our drinks were great. The Tiramisu was awesome.
Outstanding experience overall. II Brutto is an Italian gem in Austin’s Eastside. Service, food quality, and the chef's creativeness are all well-deserving of a five-star experience. Special notoriety should be given for their deconstructed martini presentation. Very enjoyable evening. I’ll be back!
OMG - dropped in here for a pizza fix after beers at Zilker since Buffalina had closed and it was incredible. I went for the burrata with sausage but they were happy to sub in mushrooms for my vegetarian friends. Wife had the squid ink pasta which looked great as well. Make reservations!
Happy hour for locals and others! From ease in booking to paying the bill. We had a very nice experience. 50% cocktails and half off on bottles of wine were an amazing surprise and put us in the mood to try some interesting drinks. Aperitivi flight was great. Negroni also top notch! Pizza, roasted beet salad with goat cheese and the works, and mussels and clams all very good! Barbera was a steal during happy hour! Nina, our server was not only knowledgeable and attentive, but charming and friendly. Next time will order as we go, as we learned that the kitchen sends out hot dishes quickly and too many arrived at the same time. Will definitely go back!
Food was great. Drinks were great. Noise level extremely high.
Super good! Great atmosphere and service, delish wine!
I have nothing else to say. I am required to post
Pasta did not meet the standards, the red meat pasta was cooked and seasoned poorly
Ink squid pasta too salty.
Not enough food for adults.
Music too loud
Best patio, great area, good for larger groups as well.
The spritz’s are so yummy here! The pepper pasta might be my favorite dish
Il Brutto was wonderful! Definitely must eat here when in Austin.
Let the chef choose for you! We did that and had the most incredible meal I’ve had in a year. Every bite was incredible. Also, sit outside. Their ambience inside is noisy and not great. Always outside :)
My husband and I came for my birthday dinner, and it was perfect! The service, the food, the view from the pizza counter; it was honestly one of the best meals of my life!
Get the cacio e pepe and the lasagna; I’m still dreaming about them!
Pasta was excellent drinks were good. Pistachio Gelato was the greatest thing I’ve ever put in my mouth.
Fun and inviting, atmosphere, enjoyed my birthday celebration.
