Great food, nice ambiance and fantastic service - what more could you ask for?!
Very Italian, very tasty, very affordable. Multiple antipasti, lots of vino rosso, and to each his/her pasta, and we were out the door for only $40 per person.
Food is amazing - service is very slow. Will be coming back, just don't be in a rush.
Unpretentious, excellent food, great value. This is a place I got to frequently before seeing a concert or opera.
I have been go to Il Borgo for years. Great Italian food, GF as well. Don't miss it
Wonderful restaurant with great ambiance, service and food. A perfect place if you are seeing a show near by.
Il Borgo is one of our favorite Italian restaurants. The food and service are always excellent.
Food made me and my boyfriend so sick. Do not get the carbonara
Great neighborhood gem with authentic pastas and friendly, professional service. Casual, good value. Not trendy or likely to be popular with those who want a vibrant bar scene. Just good food at a good price.
The food was terrible. My dish looked and tasted bland.
Wonderful food, quaint hole in the wall restaurant. Some of the best Italian food I have had the pleasure to eat. Super reasonable prices. Wonderful service. Certainly not fancy dancy - ambiance is more the local Mom & Pop restaurant. Try it, you'll like it ❣️
Meh. Dull wine list. Only vaguely clean. Food passable.
Homey, almost homely place which has its' charms after all the sleek places. Family owned and served-sometimes underserved. Il Borgo salad is good-my Lobster ravioli was Meh! could have been anything inside, no lobster taste. Generally pedestrian food. However the homemade gelato was superb, pour espresso over it and the best affogato I've had in SF. So salad main gelato and tip will run you $35. You judge whether that's good for mediocre Italian.
Great spot for great Italiano essenziale!
Kind of a dingy interior - needs some freshening, but the staff are friendly and, for the prices - decent food.
We had a waiter. whose first day it was; he handled it well. Nice and personable, and the food
was very good. I'd go back.
Good Italian fare and close to Davies and Opera House
This gem of a restaurant has been here for 22 years serving the Hayes Valley great Italian specialities. After a great meal, the homemade Gelato is fantastic.
Excellent homemade Italian food! Every dish tasted authentic and wonderful. This is a very casual place, great for small families and friends.
Good food and good service
I chose this restaurant because it is within walking distance to SF Symphony Hall, and the prices are reasonable. It looks somewhat humble from the outside, but it is nice inside, with lots of windows, and it is located on a corner. It has the feel of a neighborhood restaurant.
The food was great, tasty bread, fresh salad ingredients, and pasta made there. The vegetarian lasagna and gnocchi were very good.
There is a small wait staff, about two people who looked like a father and daughter, and a friendly busser. They handled the room efficiently, with only a small delay in bringing the check.
We parked on the street a couple of blocks away. I am not aware of a parking garage nearby, but there are several down near to Vann Ness Avenue. We will eat there again.
Warm and cozy. Easy walk to Symphony , ballet, or SF Jazz center. My only regret was eating all my pasta so I had no room for gelato.
Always consistently good - great value - feels like home !!
What a gem
Food was delicous and service was very hospitable! We'll go back.
Came here before the ballet with my daughter and some friends. Every dish was delicious, but the lasagna rolls (Lasagnetta) were amazing!
The staff set up a table for 10 in the midst of an intimate dining room, resulting in cacophony and near physical discomfort. The food was less than mediocre. The spaghetti Carbonara was dry and almost unable to be eaten. The veal saltimbocco was grizzly and was difficult to cut and to eat
Have eaten here many times and always enjoy the food. A little slice of Italy.
To start with my fork was not washed and had food caked on it. Service was fairly good. Salad was interesting with red cabbage. Ravioli was delicious.
The food was good but it seemed the Restuarant got overwhelmed when all of the tables were occupied. I would return though.
We went as a big group of 8 for a late, post-theatre meal, and we loved our pastas!
One of the best Italian restaurants in San Francisco!
Insalata del Borge was unique and very good. Insulate mista was ordinary. Veal Marsala had good flavor but was chewy. Penne with sausage and mushrooms was good but sausage was too salty. Another pasta probably would have been a better choice
Truly a neighborhood gem. I enjoy many of the pretentious, over-priced dining options in Hayes Valley, but my husband and I have eaten at the family-run Il Borgo twice now and it is a THOROUGHLY enjoyable and delicious low-key alternative. And their warm, house-made bread is perfection, as well!
The entire experience was perfect The service and the senora providing it was lovely and fun. This place feels so authentic, and it was really excellent food. It is small, but the noise level was very doable. The decor really makes one feel as though she/he is in Italy. Four of us were all so pleased with our choices. I cannot wait to return to this neighborhood gem which is in a quiet residential area of Hayes Valley.
We went here as a last minute dinner before a show. Tickets I bought my friend for her birthday. When I made reservation I said it was her birthday. Restaurant seem understaffed; the cook was cooking & then helping waitress bring the food out. We had to flag down waitress to get water, yet it such a small room she should hear us say Excuse Me. The food is okay but nothing memorable or nothing I need to go back for. They didn’t acknowledge Birthday or even ask if we wanted dessert. I’ve driven by this place for years & will keep driving by & never return.
If you want authentic home style Italian and a perfect Al dente Ariabata, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for fancy table cloths or Olive Garden, go elsewhere.
Lovely breath of Italy in Hayes Valley. Good pizza and pasta. Add a nice bottle vino rosso. What more do you need?
I have been going to Il Borgo for many years. It has great old Italian ambiance, food and service. The owner Servio is good with GF selections
The people here are so nice, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Service is incredibly attentive and friendly, you feel like a family member or good friend who is treated so special. The food is delicious. My sister ordered gnocchi with pesto sauce. It looked and smelled Devine. I had the salmon with vegetables. Ate every bite. We didn’t have time for dessert but what we saw going to other tables looked fabulous. I love the family friendly ambience here. The chef is making food for beloved family members- not just cranking out meals. You feel and taste the love he puts into each dish. I would go there just for that feeling of being cared about, but the food is so good I’d naturally order a meal. Oh! Almost forgot the delicious homemade bread! Heavenly!
